From what I've been reading it seems that the mercenaries are taking more of an active role in the day to day fighting; being shoved up front in order to avoid a more general mobilisation of the general populace of ordinary Russian suckers....what that means in reality I'm not sure....presumably its an odd financial arrangement that means the Russians are paying more for mercenaries than they would by grabbing suckers off the street and shoving them in any available khaki clothes that vaguely resemble uniforms..??
Not sure of the pay grade difference between Waggers versus Suckers but am sure its more than they would pay a suckers?
Unless they're using the suckers to just stand on street corners in occupied villages waving their guns and looking stronk in ill-fitting uniforms whilst raping chickens and drinking anti-freeze.
Who knows...these Russians be crazy boys

yeah they got nutted big time....don't have the best record nowadays do they....I suppose it provides an outlet for the genetically challenged and the Walt fraternity...
They used to require some form of background in the military/paramilitary or police but it seems they have dropped that requirement so will be interesting to know what their training is like...
"the one with the rifle shoots! The one without the rifle follows!! When the one with the rifle is killed....the one following picks up the rifle and shoots!!! .
Certainly are not as good now as in their "glory" days..... but then again neither are the Russian regulars so they are obviously suffering the same problems; an issue for quality control I guess since its a corporate matter. Anyway I seem to remember the call to arms from Syrians and certain African stronks that wanted to potter up north for a summer of fun and fighting....not sure if that happened....or were they all banjaxed at the first hurdle?

I think maybe those were barstool mercs whose enthusiasm is directly proportional to their distance from the fighting.

Look at this! Is this enough to make you sick of Russia's bombing Ukraine?
Russian strikes in Vinnytsia kill at least 23, with gruesome civilian toll (msn.com)
This is no doubt a deliberate war crime. What kind of a criminal mind would do such a thing? I just can't believe that something like this could happen, but it has happened all along since Putin decided to invade Ukraine and take away all the things that represents Ukraine. I hope to God that Russia and Vladimir Putin pay for this and pay for it big time. Putin is an evil man and I mean it!

These disasters are un-acceptable, and it upsets me, and there isn't anything I can do about it.

    The Pootster has cornered himself.
Putin’s long game in Ukraine may not play out as he predicts
". . . The best evidence that sanctions are working, albeit slowly, comes from Russian officials themselves. “The situation is not easy,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledged last month. Herman Gref, the head of Sberbank, Russia’s largest, warned: “We may need around a decade to return [the] economy to the 2021 levels.” He told journalists recently that cargo shipments to Russia had fallen sixfold because of Western sanctions. . . .

The Russian military is losing equipment rapidly, and replacements won’t be easy. According to published Ukrainian reports (hardly unbiased but worth noting), Russia has halted or limited tank production at Uralvagonzavod Corporation and at Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant, and it has halted production of surface-to-air missiles at Ulyanovsk Mechanical Plant. Major Russian shipyards have also been affected. . . .

Let’s imagine that somehow, despite the sanctions, Russia staggers on with its bloody assault of Ukraine. What then? To think about Putin’s potential problems, just look at a map. Russia is the largest country in the world, by far. To support his reckless, illegal war in Ukraine, Putin has stripped forces from the Far East, the Baltic, the vast underbelly that borders South Asia. He has a country that’s in slow-motion collapse, and too few people to protect it.

Putin plays his hand boldly. But he’s holding fewer high cards than it might appear."

Here's the nut in the shell:

Russia vs Ukraine, Ukraine will ultimately loose.
Russia vs an unsolicited invaded Ukraine with the backing of West/NATO, if Russia does win, the price for winning will be that they destroy themselves to the point that they will never be able to do it again AKA break them. In this scenario, Russia can also lose or be neutered.

The will of the Ukrainians will be the immediate fulcrum sadly.

That's a matter of opinion for which I do not have information access to agree or disagree, I hope you are correct as it can't be soon enough.

It wouldn't surprise me what Zelensky says comes true. Vladimir Putin was in the wrong when he decided to attack Ukraine and strip their democracy and all else with it. I hope Ukraine comes back and with a vengeance.

Well this is going to force Putin into issuing more threats to the west behind a big desk a mile away from anyone else...

If you can understand what this is all about, to me it looks like Putin is getting himself cornered. You would have to ask yourself what Putin would do if he got himself cornered. Think about it.

Russia claims NATO has advanced ever closer to Moscow, but distances are only relative, and it is just as true to say Moscow has moved closer to NATO.

....ah yes, the old "what about" scenario - its a rather hackneyed ruse to deflect from the present. I think we're talking about the current situation in Ukraine not re-railing discussions with banal fanciful musings.
Your time might be better spent in the present, you know, spewing up the usual UI denials that Russia doesn't target civilians....

THIS THREAD IS ABOUT THE UKRAINE AND THE RUSSIAN INVASION

People unfortunately die in wars. If Russians were intentionally killing civilians with the advanced weaponry at their disposal there wouldn’t be much left of any of those cities.

If it were NATO invading Ukraine, would you still be crying crocodile tears or supporting it? What about the NATO air attacks for weeks on end on Serbia in 1999 as they too did a bit of ethnic cleansing of the Albanians which left thousands dead and injured? Yes, it’s no wonder you want to keep it confined to Ukraine. The word ‘HYPOCRITE’ springs to mind.
