Now that we are energy independent, we don't have to worry about spiking gas prices. I seem to remember almost $4/gallon about 7 or 8 years ago. We weren't energy independent then because of our drilling policy under 0bama. Isn't he the "Big Guy's" mentor? Here comes the Green New Deal.

No more food or energy. The Red states have most of both.

You'll be starving in the dark.

We already have such a place called the Dakotas. Unfortunately few people want to live there.

What you'd lose, rationality most of your military bases and your food supply...

What we'd lose a lot of jackasses trying make us pay for things we don't want or need.

Secession wouldn’t really pay for Texas. Last year, the state received $1.03 from the federal government for every $1 it paid in taxes.

CA still ranks highest in vegetable production. Ten times AZ or Wash or Florida . It is CA, WASH, AZ, FL. Grains and soy beans it is the mid central west.. hogs Iowa beef - Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, ,,, WI,NY, PA dairy,,,, Illinois big food product as is NC with hogs, the real small states do not have the volume ... Idaho is potatoes Maine used to be big in potatoes production. Food production is distributed through the US.

Hey CA even has a lot of nuts. No really Nuts...pistascios, almonds, walnuts ..... Hey NY had a big nut case but I hear he is going to FL.
Peanuts GA, NC, VA, AL.. Plus Alabama catfish, peanuts, chicken

There is some form of agriculture in all states.

Even manufacturing is spread out but not equally.

No one section would be self sufficient.

I haven’t looked lately. Isn’t California right at that point as well, just a slight “taker”?

I guess you missed the memo. The automobile industry is turning electric as electric motors are far superior to gasoline motors. Recently Ford announced that they are working on creating an electric version across their entire line. GM has signed on to the California plan to help create the national infrastructure to support electric vehicles, like there is in California, Oregon, and Colorado.

As far as I am concerned gasoline powered automobiles is a technology on its way out. Oil production will be reduced to just supplying the plastics industry and paving roads.

California is the largest producer of agricultural products in the US. More than twice of any other state. Look it up.

I will try to tackle this seriously, though I cannot stop laughing at the thought of the Red States willingly becoming foreigners in the United States of America. Got-dam that is funny. Who are the illegals now?

Okay, nevermind, I just can't do it. What a joke. The benefit to keeping them is because they are human beings who are still part of our great experiment and still agree with us on about 90% of everything in life. Let's stop this nonsense. the Great Experiment has hit a snag. Let's not all panic like a bunch of apoplectic crackheads.

What is keeping gasoline prices low is not our energy independence (we depend greatly on the global market, "energy dependence" is a misnomer). What is keeping gasoline prices low is increased supply from foreign nations. The Trump administration has been working to increase the price of oil, because the price is staying so low. Economists are sounding the alarms, because shortages can come in waves. But gas prices have stayed low for so long now, some economists are starting to talk about them just staying low forever. Looking at the last 150 years, I would put "forever" at about 10 years.

Texas? Texas receives billions in federal money. Texas depends heavily on the military presence there for jobs and tax revenues. 1/3 of Texas' budget is money received directly from the federal government. Take away the grants and the military bases and Texas is absolutely flat broke and will need massive tax increases just to stay afloat.

Meanwhile in those nasty blue states the absence of Republican obstructionism will allow adjustments to the tax rates, medicare for all will reduce health care costs by several trillion dollars annually, a sensible energy policy that will reduce pollution while providing safe, clean , reliable energy. Yeppir. Lots of good things can happen w/o the Republicans. Just not in your red states.

That really is quite the fantasy they have going there. Perhaps it would be good to remind them of the Republican genetic tendency to destroy the economy.

They would just buy your State's food. In fact, since they are so rich, it is you who would have a hard time buying food, trying to outbid californians.

Hmm, no, that wouldn't work either, because there are goods your state will need to trade for FROM the United States (remember, you're the foreigners, now). Tariffs would hurt you more than they would hurt the United States.

No, you would continue to import much of what you need from the united states, as you do now. Plus, your negotiating power would be greatly diminished by ypur tiny economy, no military, no control over your borders, and the fact that your economy no longer has the "blue states" to help fund you via federal tax dollars. You would have MAGA hats and soybeans and crushing poverty. You will be begging for readmission to the union.

Go for it. You don't get much say, though. And the thought of you being the illegal immigrants it just flat out hilarious, so even tossing this idea about is very amusing to me.

    Hmm.

Oracle, Tesla, Hewlett Packard, thousands of smaller companies are leaving California for Texas.

JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, other banks and brokerages are moving more and more operations from NYC to Florida, Ohio, Texas....
    https://nypost.com/2020/12/12/jamie-dimon-open-to-relocating-chunks-of-jpmorgan-chase/

NYC, Los Angeles, San Francisco are quickly becoming totally unleavable in addition to having been totally unaffordable for decades.

Beware of what you wish for, by the time "the blue states let the red states leave" the blue states might be left with nothing more than ghettos.
