The border bill... excuses and more excuses...

So the Senate passed a bi-partisan border bill that addressed EVERYTHING both parties wanted. There is bi-partisan consensus that the bill will... maybe not "solve" the border problem... but certainly greatly ameliorate the impact.

You'd think: slam dunk! The bill becomes law, right?

If you think that, you don't know MAGA politicians. Trump has ordered his lackeys in Congress to block the bill. Why? Well.... because they believe it would work!

Yes. You read this right: they oppose it because it would work. And they're not even bothering to hide this. Trump said "Blame it on me!" We have folks in congress SAYING in a public way that they want this to be a political issue so they can run on it in November. They are saying that if the bill works, it would end up making Biden look good.

This is not one of those issues in which Republicans say A, Democrats say B... and people don't know which one to choose. Here Republicans say A, Democrats say Ok... so Republicans say ... no, we don't want A because YOU want A

So what is the excuse?

One of them was that the bill tied immigration to help for Ukraine. It was REPUBLICANS who wanted these two issues tied. Remember: this is a bi-partisan bill.

Somebody even said in another thread that they opposed it because if Texas wanted to challenge the bill, they would have to go aaaaall the way to DC. For heaven's sake!

You can come up with many excuses. But anybody who REALLY means it when they say they are concerned about the border problem, THIS is the bill that Republicans wanted. But they refuse to take YES for an answer.

I say again: Republicans BELIEVE the bill would work. And BECAUSE they believe the bill would work is why they vote against it.

Don't bother asking ME if I believe it would work. The southern border is not MY priority. It's the REPUBLICAN's priority. And THEY believe it would work.

 

What does our border have to do with foreign aid in EU and the ME? And if the border bill doesn’t help reduce illegals immigration, it’s NOT a good bill.

That's the problem. The only thing a border bill should be doing is deporting people, building MORE deterents and allowing far less people in or none at all.

 

Are they still trying to work it into there where 8,500 illegals are allowed a month and any future president won't be able to crack down on illegal immigration?

 

We don't know, but you see the Speaker of the House linked the two by saying no more aid unless we get a border bill. So he won a victory by getting the compromise bill which he than worked to kep from passing I am confused by all of this. How can you get what you ask for and then refuse to consider it?

 

Connecting them was stupid in the first place. But that’s pork for ya. And the border bill isn’t strengthening the border at all. It’s just providing even EASIER access. Toss all that **** in the toilet.

 

I didn't particularly mind them being connected because I liked the idea of the right getting something out of the incessant war funding. However as soon as they decided to negotiate in secret, I knew it was another gang of 8 situation and the end product would be terrible, and I was correct. So since McConnell isn't going to allow a good immigration bill (he did select the pro-amnesty Republican senators after all), I don't care about the war funding. So as far as I'm concerned, we're better off if none of it passes.

 

There are a couple of reasons why it should not be passed. Funding for Ukraine and Israel should be in separate bills.

More important, why should we let anyone come across illegally before closing the border? The border should be losed to all except those who legally enter.

 

Why should we believe Biden would do anything, even if the bill said he should? He is a perpetual liar. For two years he claimed the border was secure. Now after two years of a democrat house and senate, suddenly the border is no longer secure and it is Trump's fault. All after he wrote EOs cancelling everything Trump did.

 

Ask Republicans. THEY wanted it there.

 

REPUBLICANS were the ones who tied them to this bill.

 

Ask Republicans who are voting against the bill because THEY believe he WOULD.

There are many many absurd excuses that Republicans are using to not suport a bill that THEY believe would work. I don't know if they're using yours. It would not the dumbest.... but definitely among the worst three.

 

A bipartisan bill, by its very nature doesn't exclusively satisfy the demands of both sides.

The Senate EXISTS in a form meant to facilitate negotiation - to allow for the concerns of 100 Senators to have an effect.

The very fact that there was a group assigned to design a bill satisfactory to both sides is EXACTLY what we should demand.

As for the combining of military support, that was a strong Republican demand.


What's outrageous is that this bill deserves to be passed. And, Biden wants to sign it. This REEKS of Trump's demand to pass no bill simply because he wants to run on the issue, claiming that Biden won't take action on the border - when this IS action on the border.

 

The bill itself, is an excuse. "We can't secure our border without this bill, so its the Republicans fault!"

BS. If a politician wanted to improve our border issue, they could do it. Both parties allow this to fester because of the political benefits it brings.

 

He has already lied accusing Trump. Why should we believe him now?

I cannot find where the minority republicans added Ukraine and Israel, but even if they did, it practically guarantees it will not pass and it should not pass.
What is even worse is to call it a border bill when the border is the smallest part.

 

It's an open border, amnesty bill. I'm glad it failed.

Now, Biden should shut the **** up and enforce the laws on the books as he swore an oath to do.

The money for doing that was in the bill.

 

Yep! Says so right in the bill. "Everybody shall be allowed to enter through the open southern border. Visa or passport shall not be required"

The bill only allowed Biden to close the border after 5,000 entries per day. The bill didn't secure the border...lol

The border was more secure under Trump.

For two years Biden said the border was secure and all that time he had a democrat house and senate. After repeated calls from the republicans about increased illegals , Biden suddenly decides the border is not secure and he blames Trump. How is that anything but a bold faced lie?

 

There was a bipartisan negotiation. Republicans won on various issues, but not on all issues. They won on including aid to Ukraine and the Israel-Gaza war.

The bill had the money for implementing significant policy improvements on the border.

Frankly, the idea of totally shutting down the border to travel by humans doesn't hit me as realistic. There are many thousands of border crossings through our points of entry every day. Commerce depends on that. We do more trade with Mexico than we do with CHINA!

Republicans are now deciding that we should not even TRY. And, the ONLY reason is that Trump wants to campaign on the issue by denying that Biden is a willing partner.

 

Really? Hmmmm... I wonder why anybody would believe that about MAGAs?

 

Because the people who would believe that don't understand how stupid they are themselves.

Think about it. The people who think people who don't hate Trump are stupid, are the same people who think this bill will "secure the border"...lol
