    The good guys won again.
    Oregon’s Climate Program Overruled
    Charles Rotter
    The statute requires actual compliance.
The Oregon Court of Appeals struck down the state’s ambitious Climate Protection Program. This decision, hailed by utilities and industry groups, is a stark reminder of the overreach often seen in state-level environmental regulations. The court found that the Environmental Quality Commission, the policy and rule-making board for Oregon’s Department of Environmental Quality, failed to meet heightened disclosure requirements, a fundamental aspect of lawful and transparent governance. . . .

At the center of the Resistance:
Thanks, and the Future for WUWT
    Anthony Watts
I want to thank everyone for their participation and the commentary at WUWT this past year, for without you, this would just be a distant and unknown corner of the…

". . . . We’ve accomplished a lot this year. We’ve added unique and relevant AI generated but user-directed images as a feature for our head-post illustrations, which gives WUWT a special ability to illustrate and poke fun at some of the issues and people we cover. We’ve added other new features such as the Failed Climate Prediction Timeline. We’ve had contests for essays on climate change. We’ve added new graphics to the sidebar to illustrate the state of temperature for the U.S. and the world you won’t see elsewhere. We have recently updated the Everything Climate reference website to be part of WUWT – it was originally a separate URL but we had troubles keeping it managed and working properly due to internal WordPress issues. We’ve added a page showing that severe weather is not in fact getting worse despite what the media tells you. We are fighting back against the belief that climate related doom is just around the corner… with facts, and we will continue to do so.

We passed the 500 million views mark this year – no other climate related website can claim this. Many have not stood the test of time, disappeared, or have become inactive. We are still here. Many of our hostile screeching detractors at these websites have disappeared as well.

    THANKS

I also wish to sincerely thank those of you that have contributed funds to WUWT in sums both big and small. I thank those of you known and unknown, who have kept us afloat. Despite the fevered fantasies of our detractors, we’ve yet to get a single penny from “big oil.” Hell, we can’t even run Google Adwords anymore to generate some compensation as we have been banned because we publish things that are counter to the alarmist climate narrative and Google decided to listen to angry fools, instead of realists. Yet we persist, despite the efforts to starve and silence us with search engine and social media suppression.

I’d like to thank our detractors as well, it is because of your inane pigheadedness and resistance to logic and facts that we have the inspiration to move forward. Even many of our fake commenters are worthy of a thank you, except of course, “Griff,” who chickened out when we went to a registration requirement to comment. What I’ve learned is that most of our detractors are simply cowards. . . "

I just read part of the decision online. I wish it made a point about the undemocratic nature of the city council's choice but that was probably not within the province of the briefing.

    The Resistance is spreading.
Why German Farmers Are Protesting: They Refuse To Be The Government’s Cash Cow
    By P Gosselin on 9. January 2024

The air is getting awfully thin for Germany’s Socialist/Green government. Never in postwar history has a ruling government been so unpopular, and there’s a reason for that.

The reasons tens of thousands of farmers and truckers have blocked major traffic arteries everywhere and paralyzed the country is because of the governments insatiable appetite for tax revenue, which it needs to pay for the massive green new deal to decarbonize Germany by 2040.

Moreover, governments in Europe are attempting to liquidate agriculture and hand over all the farmland to huge, faceless corporations. Farmers are rising up and are not going to take it anymore.

    What is angering the farmers?

    1. Higher fuel tax. The government announced it would raise the fuel tax on agricultural diesel. Farmers pay 20 cents a liter less than regular motorists. The government now says farmers have to pay the same price as everyone else. The problem, though, is that the fuel tax was initially imposed in order to pay for road maintenance and repair. And because tractors burn most of the fuel working the fields and not on streets, the government gave the farmers a break. The government now wants to end this “subsidy”.
    2. Vehicle registration tax. The government also wants to impose a vehicle registration tax on tractors and forestry vehicles. Up to now, these vehicles have been exempt, because again their use was mostly off road. Here the government wants to charge a vehicle tax on tractors and foresty vehicles as well, and thus put an end to this “subsidy”.
    3. Expanded highway tolls: Truckers are protesting the government’s plan to impose a highway toll on all vehicles that are 3.5 tons or heavier, beginning July 1, 2024.
    4. Inflation: Higher energy prices, in large part due to renewable energies, have fueled inflation and made it more difficult for farmers and truckers to earn a living.
    5. New fertilizer regulation, which limits and restricts farmers in their use of fertilizers and aimed to ensure “sustainable fertilizer practice, reliability for farmers, and clean waterways.
    Other facts:

    1. 260,000 farms are operating in Germany. Many face financial hardship from the energy policies.
    2. The conservative right-wing AfD and center-right CDU and CSU parties support the farmers.
    3. The farmers and truckers are getting vast support from the population. Many are attending the protests.
    4. Environmental groups, like Greenpeace, on the other hand, say the government’s controversial measures don’t go far enough and that agriculture is emitting too much greenhouse gases.
    5. The farmers will protest at least a week.
    6. Despite the disruptions, the farmers and truckers enjoy support from a vast majority of the citizens. They know that they will end up footing the bill through higher prices.
    7. Farmers from neighboring countries like Poland, Austria, Hungary, France, Holland and Switzerland are joining the German protests.
    8. The media and government first tried to ignore the protests, but now are attacking the farmers, some are even claiming Russia or Nazis are behind them.
    9. In the meantime news of German farmer’s protests are captivating the headlines. The genie is out of the bottle.
    10. Germany faces even more chaos, as the train conductors of the country’s massive German railway are threatening to go on strike next week.
    11. Only 17% of Germans say they are very satisfied or somewhat satisfied with the government. So there’s a real chance that the protests could even intensify and spread.
What can be expected to happen?

    1. Don’t expect the government and complicit media to give in to the farmer’s demands. They are ideologically driven and are convinced they know what’s best for everyone. They don’t care what the vast majority want. Dissenters get dismissed as rightwing nutjobs.
    2. The CDU/CSU center right party, under the leadership of Angela Merkel, started the whole mess and they are no opposition (German RINOS).
    3. Only the right-wing AfD party has taken on the role of opposition. Currently they are polling at about 21-22% nationwide. over 30% in the East. There are calls to ban the party, because some claim they are “a danger to democracy.”
Tumultuous times in Germany and Europe.

Does it seem to the participants of the forum that suddenly, the leftists/AGW faithful are suddenly acting as if the law doesn't apply to them?

This is just another permutation of the attack on food. Why? The ability to feed the population conflicts with the AGW desire for massive depopulation of the world. And attacking the average farmer produces more power for corporate farming that is more tractable and wiling to introduce all of the BS for the transition of the average diet to the one proposed by the AGW cult.

That's what progressive-ism is all about and has been since the Wilson presidency. Don't like the rules? Change 'em. Can't get enough people to agree with you to win a fair vote? That's okay, as long as you can terrorize the opposition enough to get a forced consensus.

That's the entire summary of the AGW movement. Get a consensus of pre-determined experts and then engage in a forty year campaign of lawsuits that defacto amends the laws you don't like and gives you the green light to destroy the minions you so despise.

It's like watching a bad movie that you can't turn off.

Berlin farmer protest gains wide support amid nation’s winter of discontent
BERLIN — Thousands of demonstrators descended on the German capital Monday as a week-long protest over subsidy cuts in the agriculture sector reached a climax at the city’s famed Brandenburg Gate. Behind the crowd, tractors, which last week blocked highways across the country, lined the avenue cutting through Berlin’s Tiergarten park.

Following protests in December, the government reversed a decision on axing a tax discount for agricultural vehicles, and announced that a diesel subsidy would be phased out over three years rather than being cut immediately. But the farmers association said the concessions didn’t go far enough.

“Without stability in the countryside, without agriculture our country has no future,” Farmers’ Union President Joachim Rukwied said from the stage. “That’s why we are prepared to take to the streets.”. . . .

The climate "scientists" who have quietly acquiesced in the CO2 climate narrative -- or even actively contributed to it -- when they have to know better have a lot to answer for, and are going to have a lot more.
