yes you can call me absolutely anything you want, and I can do the same to you, as it should be.
People will be civil, because it has inherent advantages. But they should be as free as they want to be uncivil, as long as they are not physically harming anyone or destroying property, or keeping others from freely going about their daily lives. Anyone should feel free to rant and insult whoever they want, and anyone should be free to ignore whoever they want.

dead grandparents have nothing to do with people currently alive. Everyone’s life is made up from their de Jakob’s and actions, not those of their dead ancestors. No matter how good or bad you have it in life, anyone can rise above that, or fail completely. It is on them and them only. Not on their ancestors, and not in society.

I think there will come a day when the extreme right realizes that projection is not an argument that will convince any rational person. That will be the day when a real serious debate can start.

There is a right to wave around racist symbols (like a confederate flag) But not to glorify those racist symbols by giving them a "home" in property that belongs to the public.

That's not how you prove it. You prove it by reporting your own post to the mods and stating that you meant it to be offensive. Let's see how that goes.

That's nonsense. The confederate flag is not offensive to me because I'm not black. What is offensive to me is the underlying racism. Immoral behavior is offensive to anybody who has a moral principle. Racism is as immoral and offensive as child pornography, rape, murder.... If you believe that people have some "choice" to not be offended by them, you have a problem that will not be solved on this forum.

The Confederacy stood, first and foremost, for slavery. They seceded and formed a new country in order to preserve the institution of slavery. The people who deny this, particularly folks like the Daughters of the Confederacy, have done far, far more to "erase history" than anyone has by removing a statue.

That said, the "Confederate battle flag" we see flying now was never actually the flag of the CSA. And most people who fly it aren't racist. They are blissfully ignorant (either willingly so or unwillingly) of Confederate history and have decided to try to repurpose the symbol. It makes no sense, but it is mostly innocent.

    What nonsense!

The confederate flag is the symbol of a group of people who sought to keep black people enslaved. For that reason it is offensive to black people. Just like the Nazi symbols represent ethnic cleansing. And for that reason they're offensive to jewish people. Which doesn't mean that no jews collaborated with the Nazis or have displayed those symbols for whatever reason....

You respect the modern historical revisionist version of "the southern point of view."

The historical point of view of the Confederacy, in their own words, was the preservation of white supremacy and slavery.

No one is telling you that you can't display a Confederate flag on your personal property. Would you be in favor of your tax dollars going toward setting up a PA system at your state's capital so that the "offensive music" you despise could be blasted there? This has nothing to do with "freedom of expression and speech."

Sorry... you're outta luck. The fact that you authorize me to call you whatever I want does not authorize you to do the same.

I would say behaving morally has inherent advantages. But actually, it's expected. A more appropriate way to say it is that acting immorally has inherent disadvantages.

If you want a real serious debate then start acknowledging that your side isn't all peaches and cream with roses laid at your feet. You can't begin a real debate when you refuse to acknowledge your own faults. You love pointing towards the fault in others. But you fail to acknowledge your own.

Tate Reeves took the same approach as Donnie Swaggart: Not wanting to maintain anything that may cause any Christian brother to stumble, the present Mississippi flag must be retired, and while a statue carries history and art, a flag carries something more, that is, the connotation of allegiance, so it must be retired, and it has been retired.

OH puhleeze. The left LOVES to call anyone that doesn't agree with them a racist. And if they have a confederate flag they will do all that they can to cancel that person. Doesn't matter if its on public or private property. Remember that story about a firefighter in Haverford PA who was a part of the Proud Boys? The city shut down the fire department because he refused to step down and the fire chief refused to fire him. They lost an entire fire department just because of cancel culture. BTW, its YOUR opinion that the confederate flag is a racist symbol. Others do not believe so, including those that are against racism, like me.

YOU find it offensive. I never said that I find it offensive. And its not my job to report something I don't find offensive. If you find it offensive then by all means report it. See how that goes.

haha, well luckily I don’t need your authorization. But I won’t call you anything because I don’t have anything against you or anyone here. But the right to exists anyway.

That you think blacks are not capable of making the choice to not be offended then you are the one with the problem. Plenty of blacks actually support the confederate flag. They've chosen to not be offended by it. To recognize that it can mean something besides slavery to a lot of people, including themselves. If what you said was true then by all means, explain how there are black people that are proud to wave the confederate flag.

    I love the snowflake approach.
Do any monuments to MLK have to go because they may offend some people of a different race?

For me it's easier. I cheat! Because as soon as I spot any actual faults on what you call "my side" I simply don't adopt them. Or disown them. It's the advantage of not being a partisan ideologue. We get to disavow all those "negative things" you mention. In your case, you have to defend everything your Party says. Even when it's wrong. I have no problem disowning anything on my side that is wrong. For example, if you prove to me that .... Hillary is a criminal, I say "lock her up". You, on the other hand, are left defending a criminal like Trump, or the Confederate flag,... things like that. This puts me in a much better position than you. Because you are left with the task of defending the indefensible. Myself... as soon as I see it, I just stab "the indefensible" in the back. Thanks to that, I never find myself in the constant quagmires that you get yourself into.

Except that I have no party. I'm Independent.

So, if you disown the negatives then surely you were against CHAZ/CHOP when it first formed?

You said it was MEANT to be offensive, but that nobody had a "right" to be offended. And that putting a flag that you believed was offensive to me would prove it.

Are you now backpedaling? Prove it! Report it to the mods and explain in the reason that you meant it to be offensive, which is what you said. Let's see if they agree with you that you have a "right" to be offensive in a public forum.

If you find it offensive then report it. Last I knew posting something offensive in and of itself was not a violation of any TOS. You see, the TOS only covers insulting people. I have not insulted you. I posted something you found offensive. But I never insulted you. But even if I had, so what? We're posting on a privately owned forum with a clear set of TOS rules. Even if they infracted me it would not prove you correct. Because I could still do the same thing outside of this forum and there wouldn't be a damn thing you could do about it.

    Here's the rule btw:

You'll note that I have not attacked you by posting that flag. All I did was post something that you would find offensive.

The wrong that a rapist/murderer has done is not to cause offense. It is to use force to violate the bodily autonomy of another person.

We don't ban child pornography because it is offensive, we ban it because it inherently involves violating the bodily autonomy of children.

None of this happens when you get your feelings hurt because I said some words you find disagreeable.

Exactly! You don't offend me because you have nothing against me. Which means that those who offend black people by waving a flag that is offensive to them do have something against them.

Of course they have a right to offend whoever they want! But they don't have a right to use public assets (like the parks where these statues are) to offend them

I think you got my drift....

Not anymore than you have a choice to not be offended if people were constantly saying offensive things against your country, or against your family, .... If you are not offended by anything whatsoever, then you have a much deeper problem

    So?
