Shutting down large gatherings such as sporting events and concerts and schools is hysteria. Staying home from work and hoarding toilet paper is hysteria. Predicting economic doom is hysteria.

At some point, you have to ask the liberal folk about what specifically they would actually implement to "save the people" from their angst. I assert that they don't actually want the society to be civil, nor do they want folks to carry on or endure. They want them to be afraid. They want regular folk to be so scared of everyone else that they rip the very fabric of society and thus in doing so, will look for the autocratic dictator to save them from their perils. The formula was designed so long ago, and yet, every time we see a "great crisis", this BS rears its ugly head and gets stoked by these very same liberal "progressive" folk who really just want to take advantage of the regular folk and their fears.

I won't comment on it, did not read it, because I don't do Twitter. There is enough idiotic and uninformed noise propagated on the internet without twitter.

The virus is real and lethal, but humanity has dealt with such before.

I'm staying home and increasing my Vitamin C intake. Not much else I can do. Belligerent clowns have been running the government long before DJT came along. :peace:

Thank you for establishing that you have no relevant subject matter knowledge regarding the transmission of the Covid-19 virus or the impact it has already had on the economies of nations where it has become a serious issue.

Some people try to learn from the experience of others and take heed of the warnings.

Those that don't end up learning the hard way.

The economic impact you speak of is a result of the hysteria.

Thank you for the initial post. That is the kind of information we need, rather than the Pence Road Show every evening.
Like you, I see no need for panic. What I do see is need for proactivity. Where is the plan?
Because this isn't a wide spread 'killer' virus, it isn't being taken seriously. But then, what do we expect from people who don't believe that everyone has a 'right' to healthcare? Did we honestly think that they would be worried about those who could/will die from exposure?

Please explain how the virus by itself has economic impact while fear of catching the virus which causes people to cower in fear does not.

Good point about being proactive because that can and will save lives IF it is implemented.

Unfortunately those in positions of leadership of our nation simply lack the necessary skills to grasp the severity of the issue and are governed entirely by self interests instead of what is best for We the People.

What "plan" would you propose that doesn't involve and in fact revolve around hiding in your house and shutting down the economy?

    That is your STRAWMAN!

    Let's deal with FACTS instead!

Covid-19 is NOT the common flu!

Covid-19 DOES have a significantly HIGHER mortality rate than the common flu.

Implementing strategies to PREVENT the spread of Covid-19 are no different to boarding up your house before a Cat 5 hurricane comes ashore and evacuating the area. The people who die in hurricanes are the ones who FAILED to take precautions.

Just because you cannot see the Covid-19 virus does not mean that it will not arrive in your area and that some will end up dead as a result.

So you admit the virus itself is no threat to the economy with a 1% mortality rate. irrational fear of contracting this flu like virus is the only economic threat.

So closing borders would keep additional carriers out and that isnt a good idea ? I call BS on that lack of common sense .

It must be contained by quarantine and that includes not taking in thr risk factor of new carriers that will spread this virus more

If china has been able to stop the pace of the spread in the epicenter we should emulate their tactics

Vapid STRAWMAN ignored for obvious reasons!

You appear to be far more concerned about the economy than you do about the RISKS to the LIVES of your fellow Americans.

    That says volumes.

    Yes, CONTAINMENT is what works!

WHERE the containment is necessary is what still needs to be determined.

China only contained Wuhan province and NOT the entire country.

Emulating the same tactics used by China would be to establish containment zones where there are outbreaks of the virus.

I've lived and worked in Italy. Damn fine people.

But don't ask them to react to significant dangers. They are slow to react at anything, which is strange given that they are a highly emotional people.

They get emotional about the wrong things! This time, they are very, very subdued. Whyzzat?

Because, this time, death is happening to both people and the economy. Which has a very different impact upon the conscience of Italians who have a considerable lust-for-life ....

Interesting how what you observed above applies right here in America.

The slowness to react to significant dangers, CHECK!

They get emotional about the wrong things, CHECK!

Death is happening to both people and the economy, CHECK!

What I am finding bizarre right now is the DENIALISM in the face of a serious threat.

Seems like governments know how bad it really is. Talking down panic, but taking extremely drastic measures. I don't know what that is, but it sure as heck isn't a good sign.

Some governments do know how bad it really is but not all of them are taking the same measures to prevent the spread.

Here in America it appears as though Congress and the criminal IMPOTUS are far more concerned about the health of the economy and don't give a crap about the health of We the People.

And I count Donald Dork as one of the most significant dangers that the US has faced in a great, great long time.

The guy is sick, sick, sick in the head ...

Maybe it's not denialism, per se. It could be massive indifference?

I also think it is too soon to tell - but the Dork may be digging his own grave. He did not expect the C-virus and it will have a substantial impact upon him personally come election-time. Even if he had nothing to do with it initially.

People have to blame somebody - and he's the one easiest to select ...

PS: DD just might have his presidential arse-in-a-sling with this one. Let's hope so cuz Biden is going to need every vote he can get!

I'm impressed (so far) with the cute German-lady now running the EU-Commission in Brussels. She's a doer, very much unlike here male predecessors in the job. And if she wants something from the male heads of EU-governments, with which she will be dealing on a permanent basis, she will get what she wants. I'm sure of it.

Americans who went through the Great Recession were innocents. They all thought the Great Depression of the 1930s was interesting for the movies/stories it generated?

Evidently, we did. Look at this Employment-to-population Ratio infographic history here. Americans never thought that the five-year hiatus in stagnant job-growth could happen? We, the sheeple, thought that the economic-recession of no-job-creation from Dec. 2009 to February 2014 would be over in six-months and never ever reach five-years?*

And then another two-years necessary to really get hiring going once again? How naive can a country get ... ?

The economy is a major issue.

Only a fool would bawk at the possibility of a financial crisis.

Even on the far left, the economy matters for standard of living.
