So here's the deal. Basically to synthesize what you just wrote, no one can go anywhere anyone else is, because, as you've said, the danger... got it. And then, because you got caught, you deny that you'd close boarders, and instead, you'd "nuance" this BS "containment zones".... LOL.. what toss..

And worse, what you're asking for here is ostensibly martial law, but not yet, just when you're folks are in power, cause you're a skeeert of what a Trump marshall law might look like. Laughable.

 

While there is obviously a big challenge here, what is actually happening is that emotional reactions are driving decisions that are doing more damage than the virus.

I have a friend who is a financial writer and analyst in Japan; close to the problem and totally scanning all the reports due to the impact on stock markets. I got an update last night that has a paragraph that is applicable here, regarding the real nature of the virus threat, which follows:

"Roughly 80% of known coronavirus cases were so mild that patients recovered without hospitalization or medical intervention. About 15% did require hospitalization and 5% needed critical care. Many probably didn’t even know they had it. This helps explain the understated case count. Another pleasant byproduct of the understated case count is that it means the coronavirus death rate is overstated."

"China's National Health Commission said it detected 40 new cases of the virus in the past 24 hours, down from 44 new cases the previous day, and from about 4,000 new cases on some days last month.
Reuters reported that 36 of the 40 new cases are in Wuhan, the outbreak's epicenter and where the vast majority of the world's more-than-111,000 cases have been concentrated.
Although case counts are still rising, the worldwide tally is tapering off."

There was also the note that the virus, like influenza and some others, are generally much more prevalent as well as more serious in those who have diminished health conditions- weak immune system, respiratory conditions, etc. The risk to any person varies substantially with those factors.

No question we need to do the right things to deal with this- but to lose our heads and make matters worse is of course self-destructive, and too much of that is happening right now. The US will probably lose five times as many people to drug overdose this year as the world may lose to this virus. Vaccines are on the way, understanding and treatments are rapidly advancing. The sky is not falling, we are not all going to die. We need to stop promoting fear, start supporting common sense.

 

"34 million working Americans have no access to paid sick days at all". Crikey, even before we factor in the stupidity of the President, America is a godsend for virus transmission.

 

So far all i see is the 60+ crowd getting fatally ill from this disease, ill take notice once strong healthy 20 somethings start dropping like flies. Otherwise this is all just alarmist claptrap. It's no worse than the flu, similar mortality rate.
