Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday released a statement in reaction to the Texas abortion law that went into effect, asserting it will “dramatically reduce access to reproductive care” for “women of color.” She ultimately joined President Biden and other left-wing politicians in promising to fight for every woman’s ability to abort her child. “Today, a new law takes effect in Texas that directly violates the precedent established in the landmark case of Roe v. Wade. This all-out assault on reproductive health effectively bans abortion for the nearly 7 million Texans of reproductive age,” Harris said in a statement. --- Here we go with the race -- how much longer will the "people of color" realize that the liberal democrats look down on them as unsophisticated and incapable of managing their own lives.
I just found something new about the ruling from SCOTUS, i had not read this in other papers. https://www.economist.com/united-st...een-lights-a-near-total-abortion-ban-in-texas This spurred the ill-fated last-ditch plea to the Supreme Court to block the law before it took effect. The lawsuit may raise “serious questions regarding the constitutionality of the Texas law”—as it bans abortion three months earlier than Roe v Wade permits—wrote the majority. But since the state of Texas had argued that neither it nor its employees had the power to enforce the law, the justices declined to step in.
I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy. The left complain about the right changing laws from established norms and yet the left want to get rid of the Hyde amendment, which has been the established norm.
Why do you keep posting graphs and charts that have virtually nothing to do with what the conversation was? My post was about the hypocrisy of the left in complaining about a new Texas law which goes against the established norms while the left have been trying to get rid of the Hyde amendment, which has been the established norm for a long time. Can you please quit posting your stupid graphs and charts that have nothing to do with the conversation?
I am not sure this matters, private citizens have been deputized to sue on behalf of the state? This is going to create mass confusion in Texas regardless. The Chief justice did say that this law will ultimately be revisited in the near future as no ruling was made.
With that I don't disagree, the majority is playing favor politics in the short term by making this look like an evangelical win. They basically kicked the can but it makes no sense that this law will ultimately stand.
They didn’t decline the case, they declined the emergency case. I wish they would have taken it too cause Roe Vs Wade should be overturned
You've explained the insidious nature of the bill.........by design. If a woman seeks medical attention because she is having a miscarriage the attending medical staff can be forced in to court to prove they didn't perform an abortion. They would have no recourse to recoup the legal fees they spent by design of the law. This unconstitutional law is meant to financially target and intimidate the providers of abortion services....full stop. And it provides a financial incentive for the bounty hunters reporting possible abortions to TX authorities. Dystopian is the word that comes to mind.
Great post! About sums up the Texas law and the ensuing "crazy" succinctly. It's an intimidation law.
The problem with the religious right is they are AbsaByGodLutely pro-life until the child is born. Then as far as they are concerned the mother and child can eat **** and die. This, I'm sure, seems to be a fair and reasonable law to those on the religious right, but they are in the minority of AmeriCANs. There is a reason the Founding Fathers put this clause in the First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." One AmeriCANs religion should not affect the lives of another AmeriCAN. Anyone on the religious right is AbsaByGodLutely free to not have an abortion, and they are free to keep their *******n mouth shut about what other AmeriCANs believe I don't really support this idea, but it would seem to me if you, and your religion, are going to force a woman to have a baby you, and your religion, should be forced to make sure that woman and baby have all they need to live comfortably. What I do support is staying the **** out of other peoples business.
The $10,000 bounty is outrageous, and paid by tax payers. I wonder how the right would scream if a law would come into place that would place a $10,000 bounty for reporting anyone that misuses a gun? Yet, they still claim that they are against the authoritarian state. Freedom for me, but not for thee, that's always been the RW motto.
You're looking at it left and right, when it's really top and bottom. Freedom for DC elitists, and no freedom for the rest is the DC motto. The sooner we recognize this, the sooner we can all fix it. I lean right, and I'm a conservative, and there are maybe 5-10 members of Congress I actually like. That's pathetic, but the reason is that Rs and Ds are all just different sides of the same corrupt coin these days.
Except the law doesn't discriminate. Lots of RWers getting abortions. I don't understand how this law will play out, if it ever really does. I would expect sales of test kits to go up, and early abortions to go up. Will women seek alternative (and private) abortion methods? Will we see entrepreneurs betting on (and hiring) snitches in chasing the $10,000 "rewards?" Will ambulance chasers be replaced with preggo chasers? I abhor the use of the word "retarded," but I can't think of a better term to describe this law.
It saves lives. Which, if you listen to liberals carefully, they don't care about. Abortions killed more than twice the number of people COVID killed last year, and liberals defend it tooth and nail. You have no legit argument to present if you support killing babies.
Not necessarily. People will just travel out of state to get an abortion. All TX did was make it more expensive for its citizens to get abortions.
I know liberals support killing undesirables. That's what abortion does. Texas' law certainly won't prevent the continued killing of undesirables.
So you agree the law won't necessarily save lives. I still think it's cute you believe only liberals get abortions.
I like the law. It will save a few lives. But many women will flee to liberal states where they abort mostly black and minority babies gladly.
The states abort "black and minority babies"? Do you somehow believe "blacks and minorities" are being forced to abort their babies?
The stats show that blacks abort their babies at a much higher rate than their representative proportion of the population. Does that bother you? Apparently it doesn't, since you're an abortion proponent.
Not just allowing those nut cases - but paying them as well! https://www.businessinsider.com/tex...tivizes-vigilante-lawsuits-by-citizens-2021-9 As I posted in the other thread, for those who want to help the women in Texas, go to www.fundtexaschoice.org and donate if you can.
