Atheists often ask for proof, but what they do not do is set a condition or standard upon which proof regarding God can be based. It’s a difficult problem for many atheists, not believing in God makes the entire concept difficult to grasp, to visualize, and, to be blunt, in many cases there is simply no desire to understand.

And yet, as billions have come to understand, there are is indeed something to understand; something to marvel at. Yet to understand, we must begin with purpose. What is the purpose? Why would a larger than life Creator go to the trouble of creating all this? And the answer is: for us of course.

Though the level of detail shifts from one denomination to another , certainly with differing specifics, much of the purpose of what we do here in Earth is learn – grow – understand. The concept of the soul is a key component to the belief, in that it was here before, is here now, and will be after. The time here is finite, the time of the soul infinite. We were created by a loving God, a Father, who know us and know what we mean to grow and prosper, to become … closer to the ideal, to perfection, that he desires for us, as any father wishes for his children. God can create a world in which perfect obedience could be thrust upon us, but in simply following the rules and limitations we do not fully understand the wisdom behind those rules and limitations. So God created this place, and withdrew himself (Genesis) allowing us to stumble about and in the absence of compulsion and see for ourselves the truth of his word.

The truth of his word, his wisdom, begins in the ten commandments.

#1 – Thou shalt have no other Gods before me.

This, is a choice. It is the beginning and the end. It begins with obedience, it ends with understanding. Some have castigated this intolerance, but a simple examination of the wisdom he offers clearly points the way forward. A petty Pagan God who sees you as a subordinate to be enraptured in petty squabbles? Baal? The Right hand of Satan himself? As we seek to test his word, we begin with accepting them as the standard – and where we begin, well … you will see

#2 - Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.

This is warning of those other Gods. Taken to extreme is a simple warning against an image of God rather than the actuality of God. It is also wisdom in terms of priority. There are other things we can choose to worship, prioritize, sex, money, drugs, ideology, power, prestige, and yet each of these things leads down a path that we can SEE leads to destruction rather than fulfillment. This is a warning to avoid these false paths.

#3 - Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.

Respect. Do we like it when people do silly things and then blame other people for their folly? Is it good to be continuously disrespectful of people? Haughtiness is its own reward.

#4 - Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

This was revolutionary in its day. Work hard, but, take time to do other things. Take some time to enjoy fellowship, family, and to think rather than toil. Those among us who simply plod along from one job to the next never really seem to get ahead. Those who take the time to stop and plot a course, to see a path ahead invariably do better. They also, having taken the time to stop, to spend time with family and friends DEIBERATELY, seem to have a better time doing it. Make time for things other than work. Should be an easy one, and yet we drift away from it, and our families, friendships, and relationship suffer – and we ponder why?

#5 - Honour thy father and thy mother.

This can be difficult for those who come from broken families. But the simple fact of the matter is that our parents brought us the gift of life. They gave us an opportunity to forge a path and to experience this wide and wonderful place. And there are those who will assume the role of a kindly father and mother to those who grew without, who will offer guidance and solace those in need and accepting of such kindness. Those who were fortunate to grow up with good parents, if imperfect parents, know the wisdom of honoring parents who loved them, who sacrificed for them and who wish for them only the best. It is again respect, honor, and the beginning of selflessness – to realize the sacrifices that others make on your behalf – appreciation.

#6 - Thou shalt not murder.

This one get a bit contentious, as people attempt to justify a level of violence from some to none. Yet there are few wars that when the costs are weighed up, the result proved worth the effort and lose. In my opinion, there are instances, rare though they may be, that people will be required to defend what is right and honorable. On an individual level, outside of war, this is sacrosanct. The taking of innocent life is recognized as an admonition in every society. Those who wield this terror may find power in fear for a time, but they are reviled and eventually – that limited power breeds its price and they are rejected, dishonored, and hunted themselves. If only Rome’s various Caesars had listened to this simple bit of advice in the quest for power.

#7 - Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Having seen both sides of this coin (not participated mind you), I can say that there is no practice on earth that is so casually destructive. I have seen the dear john letters, the phone calls home where a man answers a wife’s phone. That is never easy to watch. I have seen the other side, the casual disregard for a loved ones leading to quick sexual tryst. The damage inflicted, the pain caused, the trust violated – and for what? Even those affairs that result in a change of spouses leave behind a legacy of pain and suffering, and almost casual disregard for those to whom we committed. And when we cannot keep our word to those we profess to care the most about? What does this say about us? What we value? Cherish? Honor?

#8 - Thou shalt not steal.

I think that one is blindingly obvious.

#9 - Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

Lying. Once again a casual practice that, overtly in impugning others, is simply malicious. Yet in most cases, lying is done simply to avoid consequences of our own mistakes and failures. It can become addictive when practiced, and the marvel of avoiding consequences for poor behavior. Yet this simple thing leads only to destruction. Those who would befriend you are left cheated, unable to trust, and the result is a string of broken relationships behind you. Did you lie really avoid the consequences?

#10 - Thou shalt not covet.

This one seem most prescient today, with the old keeping up with the Joneses having ruined a fair number of people. A simple rule to live within your means and not to covet those things that are beyond your means. Not only is this fiduciarily sound, but it is emotionally sound. When we find those things that make us happy and content, they fulfill us. There is no reason to chase a fab or a fancy, a whimsical treat, to feel left out that the neighbor got a new car and you didn’t. The consequence of avoiding jealousy is fulfillment, and, most importantly, in seeking what is right.

And so as we examine these simple commandments, we find that they are true. That they are true means that they are correct, and correct means that they should be applied. These standards are now our standards. What began with seeking God and his wisdom, ended with his wisdom as our own – and so we are right back to #1 – right to obey, an enriched for having done so.

And when we look for the next step?

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:36-40)

God’s greatest gift, his greatest desire for us to see each other the way he sees us, and to love one another as fully as he loves us. To see man with all his warts and to love them anyway, to have patience when frustrated, to have faith that most will come through for better, to serve, to be selfless.

How anyone can need more proof that something is correct? I simply do not know. You ask for truth and are given it freely. You can test this wisdom whenever you wish, and time and again, his word rings true.

Proof? What proof? You didn't offer one shred of evidence let alone proof.

And the only atheist response is an ostrich

THe real reason atheists don't see proof? They actively deny it. This response, from a poster who supposedly has me on ignore (again), is supposed to be one of reason and insight?

May as well have written, "I didn't bother to read it (Indeed, if you refuse to acknowledge proof, then it is true - there is no proof), because telepathy means its nonsense. Ergo, I will not actually address a single point made in the post."

Apparently, this aversion to reading includes the first line:

The 10 Commandments are not proof of anything except that someone wrote them. It doesn't prove your invisible sky daddy actually exists anymore than Harry Potter novels prove Harry Potter is a real person.

Better luck next time coming up with an actual rational argument.

Ok, I'll set a condition. Show actual evidence, not asinine bull(*)(*)(*)(*) that you just wish was evidence.

How about you demonstrate that by defining what that is.

Because when an atheist acts like an immature, cussing moron in order to deny what is presented, its pretty obvious. You tell me what is presented - because that IS our religion.

And unfortuantely, you can't classify it as anything other than something to avoid at all costs.

And you are already blowing your stack again to boot. Honestly, if you cannot control yourself, why bother to engage at all? Or is the topic of the ten commandments something that sends you so far into emotional orbit that offering an actual valid rebuttal is impossible?

I can sum up your arguement and inability to address and actual presentation in two points: Nonesense and bull(*)(*)(*)(*). And that ladies and genetlement is atheist proof

Maybe you should read the OP.

Standard atheist propoganda is no substitute for being too lazy to read something that is presented. WTH is wrong with atheists who think jumping into threads with random, standard atheist talking points is rational?

And it is painfully obvious that said poster failed to even read before rejecting, having apparently figured out what the ten commandments mean well before joining the discussion.

People consider this behavior to be rational?

Thanks. You've managed to present what is the dumbest argument I have ever seen to prove a god. Congrats. You deserve a medal for presenting the worst argument in all of human history.

The 10 Commandments do not prove, in any shape or form, that a god exists. Show me exactly where in the 10 Commandments this undeniable proof lies because usuing my rational brain it is no where to be seen. All I see if a stupid claim that the 10 Commandments is proof of a god.

I can do that too. Hey look, this rock exists and it's proof that the Flying Spaghetti Monster exists.

See how stupid that argument was? It's as rational as yours.

Well, clearly you have not read the OP. Still.

All you see? You see nothing but the what you thought this was about before you jumped in with your prejudices and standard atheistic propoganda.

How can you asses an arguement as stupid, in fact the stupidest, when you clearly have not even read it? And this is backed up with what beyond your emotions?

And instead of doing that, we get emotional trite and accusations from a clearly emotional atheist who is incpable of civility and discussion.

Maybe instead of pulling a Mr. Mackey, "Everything is dumb 'emK," maybe you can demonstrate how something predicted as true THOUSANDS of years ago is indeed true, but is actually not true?

Well, of course, actually addressing such a point would have required you to control yor emotions to the point that you actually read the point being made - so you could have at LEAST acknowledged it before rejecting it.

Apparently, being both lazy and mean is what is supposed to pass for science in atheism these days? :confuse:

what's an atheist?

Are you witnessing?
what to marvel at is the comprehension that egyptians created a set of rule to live by.

ie... the commandments existed in form, over a 1000 yrs before any torah

the purpose of life is to live. The purpose of the commands is to sustain personal responsibility
Why would a larger than life Creator go to the trouble of creating all this? And the answer is: for us of course.
man wrote the commands.

basic
egyptian pharoahs and their scribes created them

which to me, renders that ahkanatan could have been moses as he is who combined the 'gods' of egypt to ONE god.
yet christians break that one constantly with crucifix and crosses and mary's, saints and all kind of garbage.

the only abrahamic sect that doesnt have a depiction is islam as even jews have and use religious symbolisms

and from lying with the use of his rendition, like what has been done with this thread, to the simple concept of praying in "jesus name" are all blasphme

That 'command' is actually, that 'the name' will not be used for gain.

ie..... i am the name holder and why you never see me write it (the math defining the trinity of mass, energy, time)
use a day to contribute to others (give of self for others to live; sacrafice of energy for other)
each are literally of the life from the previous generation. Proven by cell division/procreation. As each are of th light from the combining of the sperm/egg of their parents.

ie... what you do is either in honor or dishonor to your parents and the lineages of all your fathers/mothers since the beginning of time.
kill of another for selfish gain

ie.. a loss to the common (bad)

ALL the commands from that point have a similar comprehension to understand; what each does can cause a 'loss to the common; (bad: defined)

or

good: support life to continue

selfish and wars have come from such pain

agreed
like some morons call people 'atheist' when they themselves are against 'god' (nature itself)

strangest fact any can realize
i suggest keeping an opposite in mind:

"appreciate every moment"

then the concept of 'hell' in the wanting of what another has can be understood

that comes from the Confucius style of the golden rule;

do unto others as you would have them do unto you

a fine single line item concept that enables a mind to put themselves into the equation of personal responsibility

i can agree.

each can experience truth.

Liars represent the commands as being from a god on some thrown. As if he is burning bushes, then has moses kill 3000 people, when he comes down the mount with the commands on the tablets.

The commands are from egyptian foundations. Moses was born, raised and learned from the pharoahs library as he was living in the pharoahs house, per torah, per bible, per se.

The commands existed well over a thousand years before any torah was ever written in the 'book of the dead'........... See the Ani Scroll

Here is the condition and standard I usually refer to. I don't agree to it in its entirety, but I agree with the general gist of it.

If you prefer it written (without the smug tone of voice and biased pictures)

I appreciate that the discussion before the dotted list is a bit arrogant, one can start reading by the dotted list.

I have always wondered why the 10 Commandments didn't mention rape.

Oh well, I guess I shouldn't question the worlds best moral code.

Be nice if at least one of eth responding atheists took the time to read the OP before jumping in with standard atheist propoganda.

I read the OP. The argument set forth is stupid. I could take any religious document from any religion and say it proves that religion and you'd disagree because it's not your religion. This is why your argument is stupid.

You say that these commandments are "true". What exactly is true about them? I'm especially not sure how the first four commandments can be interpreted as being true. Also the commandments "Thou shalt not steal", and "Thou shalt not not bear false witness" are not absolute moral rules.; there are certain contexts that lying and stealing can be moral.

Atheists do not need proofs because he know that God exist. The want just to seduce the more the merrier people in the hope Hell is small enough and not all can go in.

I read the post, I found this:

So I supplied an answer to that question.

You know as well as I that we don't agree on whether God commanded humanity to follow those rules, and the same old arguments won't make any of us waver, so I just answered the question.

What, do you want me to argue that people should steal more?

#1 - if you think they are faulty, that is your claim, you have to support said conclusion - not me.

If you are asking me to make your case for you, you are barking up the wrong tree brother.

#2 - Yes they are moral absolutes. Will we fail them? Yep. That is why there is a concept called grace and forgiveness. Repentence.

Of course, all of this begins with having enough humbleness to acknowledge that you are not perfect.

Ask any atheist how they deal with Sin? Forgiveness? And you will see the end of the conversation in short order. The simple answer is they don't. They simply find it in others and declare themselves better by comparison.

No, you posted a couple of you tube videos about converting atheists.

If you fear stealing, how about adultry? Its just sex right?

And yet when shown the right way ... you reject it, even as you do not? It is the correct path, and it was a path predicted to be correct thousands of years ago - and it is.

In fact, its so accurate and sound that atheists cannot argue against it - so they post silly your tube videos and call it a rebuttal?

Sounds like a conundrum that atheists have to work through does it not?
