Angolan Official Denies Islam Ban, But Muslims Say Mosque Closings Persist

"There is no war in Angola against Islam or any other religion," Fernando told Agence France-Presse. "There is no official position that targets the destruction or closure of places of worship, whichever they are."

Christianity teaches that every non-believer deserves to be mercilessly tortured. I guess you support it being banned too, right?

The controversy over reports that the southwest African nation of Angola had banned Islam and begun to demolish mosques took a new turn Tuesday when Manuel Fernando, director of the Angolan Ministry of Culture's National Institute for Religious Affairs, denied both reported measures.

The reports of mosques being dismantled have come under scrutiny, as a quick Google Images search shows that a photograph published by numerous news outlets this month that supposedly depicts the minaret of an Angolan mosque being dismantled in October 2012 had been published at least as far back as Jan. 23, 2008, when the Housing & Land Rights Network used it to illustrate an article about the demolition of Bedouin homes in Israel.

According to Arutz Sheva, Silva reportedly said the ban was necessary because Islam is "contradictory to the customs of Angola culture."

American conservative blog TheBlaze cited the report from India Today, much to the glee of some of their commenters.

But International Business Times questions if any of these claims are actually true.

The site reports two unidentified officials at the Angolan Embassy in Washington D.C. said they have not been made aware of any kind of Islam ban in the African nation. Other discrepancies the site outlines:

It says a Google image search revealed that the photograph many sites are using with this story to show the destruction of mosques is from 2008 when the Housing & Land Rights Network was illustrating the destruction of Bedouin homes in Israel. (Via OnIslam.net)

But, we also did a Google image search and actually found it used earlier than that, in an article on ISM-france.org, illustrating the demolition of a mosque and six houses in a Moroccan village on Dec. 29, 2003.

So this is obviously not an image showing mosques being destroyed in 2013. International Business Times also questions a few of the supposed quotes by Angolan officials.

OnIslam.net reported Nigeria’s Osun Defender newspaper quoted Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos as saying “This is the final end of Islamic influence in our country.”

But one of the officials IBT spoke to said the president has been out of the country for a week, so that report can’t be valid.

Plus, when we looked at the article this quote was allegedly taken from, we noticed two things:

    1. This quote is never even mentioned in the article, and ...

    2. It doesn’t look as though Osun Defender was the official source of the story anyway.

As you see, it says the report was from the blog Bare Naked Islam, which doesn’t exactly look to be a credible news source.

Other religions aren't maiming or murdering people iinthe name of their god as often as Islam. In the ME its a daily occurance. In the US it pops ups every couple of years in one nice mass murdering incident. Can't recall any Jews killing people over Hanuka or Christians killing anyone for Jesus in recent history. Certainly no Mormons have beheaded anyone.

So why the comparisons when there is no comparison? Yes considering there are so many musims the violent ones are am minority but almost every terrorist also happens to preach Islam.

Islam has NOT been banned in Angola.. The pictures they used to show Mosque demolitions are from Israelis demolishing property of the Negev Bedouin.

The link story does NOT say that ANGOLA denies the report of Islam being banned. It says that ONE MAN says that, and he is not "ANGOLA". In addition that one man's denial is challenged by Angolan Muslims who point to the many mosques that the govt has demolished. Got it now ?

The Constitution is the document that confirms what he said ("Islam has no place in America.") Article 6, Section 2, the Supremacy Clause.

"This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding."

This bans Islam. A supremacist ideology, which demands that IT be the supreme law of the land.

Angola hasn't banned Islam or mosques.. The photo of the mosque "demolition' is from 2007.. of Negev Bedouin houses being demolished.

There are 3 or 4 links to this bogus claim.

They think the farce was perpetrated by BareNakedIslam.

Prove that our foreign policy is the "biggest reason" why Muslims hate the US and Israel. Be sure and account for the fact that Muslims are terrorizing non-Muslims in China, Thailand, Phillippines, Europe, Africa, Russia, and other places, and make sure that your answer accounts for the fact that Muslims were warring against non-Muslims long before the creation of the US and Israel.

What's to stop Charles Manson from calling his movement a "religion" and teaching his followers to kill people? Would it be protected under the Constitution if he did that?

Sure the 1st Amendment protects our religious freedom. But it doesn't protect religious freedom of entities that are not religions.

We do not declare Islam is not a religion just because we don't agree with it. We decalre it not a religion, because it doesn't meet the standard that religion is defined by.

Religion - a system of beliefs, with a code of ethics (Webster's New World Dictionary, 4th ed.)

Islam is about as UNethical as it gets. Don't tell me I'd have to reel off all those UNethics of Islam. You all don't know what they are ? Co me on!!

Abrahamic religions are religions that share the patriarch Abraham in their lineage, although he plays different roles in different belief systems. Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are all considered to be part of this group, because Abraham appears in the religious texts of all of these faiths. The Druze, Bahá'í, Samaritans and others are considered to be members as well. All told, more than half of the people in the world are believed to identify themselves as members of these religious groups.

Islam is already banned by the Constitution's Supremacy Clause (it just isn't being enforced). And it is NOT a religion.
