I'm going to "rinse and repeat" here. You're better than that, Darth.

Aside from all the behavioral changes - self and governmentally imposed - I think the pandemic has given us all a chance to get to know ourselves a whole lot better. And self care has become vitally important. Your recognition of that is to be applauded. I suspect that, given some distance, you will be recharged and be back to help us all as you've been doing. And we all owe you our gratitude for taking the time to explain things so well. Be well.

See, you have just too much faith in people! lol.

I do not beat around bushes, I do not hold any punches. That makes me an ******* sometimes, but I can live with that.

Conspiracy theorist are some of the lowest forms of life on the internet. Mostly because they talk down to everyone that does not see what they see, thus I give them what they give out.

As the husband of a medical professional that has spent the last year caring for COVID patients, I find his bullshit even more offensive as he is implying that they are all lying and part of the conspiracy

And this guy is one of the worst on this forum, there is literally not one topic I have seen him post about that he did not claim was some grand conspiracy.

You have every right to call them as you see them. We all do. I am just throwing out the idea that that doesn't have to mean. ;-)

My ex works at the airport and loves airplanes. Without fail, my ex would get worked up if a plane's interior and exterior weren't from the same plane in movies. It was almost impossible to watch a movie with planes in it. LOL

My point is, like all of us, we each have different areas of expertise. It's impossible for one person to know EVERYTHING (unless his name is Trump, of course. ;-). Medical doctors aren't pharmacists. Yes, they know some pharmacology but they are trained in the human body, diseases, emergency medicine, etc. so it only follows that CenterField's opinions are based on his training and exposure. Your exposure comes from a different viewpoint. It doesn't mean either of you are wrong.

This is the main reason that I try to understand other people's viewpoints without starting from the position they are wrong and/or stupid. They just have different views and when it works well, we both end up learning something.

Another reason I try not to judge others. ;-)

Thanks for being willing to hear me out on this.

There is no such thing as "too much" faith in people. The only monsters I won't associate with are pedophiles and rapists. Everybody else has some kind of redeeming qualities.

I didn't ask you to pull any punches.

I agree that some CTs are holier-than-thou types that enjoy terrifying people but that's not always the case. I don't have any immediate recollection that @Eleuthera has done either.

I can understand why that would be upsetting. My gratitude to your partner's contributions during this pandemic and your support of him/her to get on the frontlines every day.

When I was a kid, I wrote a story about people waking up every day in a new body (new race, new gender, new sexuality, etc.) so everyone would have the opportunity to see the world through their new eyes and experiences. Obviously, that can't happen but it's what I try to do when considering other people's viewpoints. Beyond that, I remind myself that MOST people aren't intentionally malicious. They just speak from different experiences.

FB there are times when we all get fed up the smokers who won’t quit, the obese who won’t diet the computer addicts who won’t exercise and we accept then and treat them but it does stretch you patience when the person is also confrontational and many on here are. But we still treat those people even when they are screaming at us because we need to put in an IV or because they don’t want to stay in hospital because can’t you just give me something and let me go home? It is often an added strain on an already strained system so forgive us for the occasional gripe

Don't let the bad guys win. You just have to get over caring about what they post on a personal level and have fun with their nonsense.

That would be fine and dandy if conspiracy theorists were just harmless fools. Unfortunately many are not. They are a danger to society and lead to things like pizza parlours getting shot up, seats of governments getting stormed with people dying and relevant to this topic, refusals to abide with sensible covid restrictions and refusals to take vital and very safe vaccines.
They deserve all the scorn and ridicule they receive, maybe more.

I understand your point. I really do.

Here's my concern and this applies to partisan politics as well. There is no pathway to compromise if people just argue and call one another names. We're human and we have a right to our views and opinions but so does the other person. When we make the effort to meet them halfway (this does NOT mean agree with them, but simple, being willing to hear their side of things) there is a possibility for growth. Instead of hate, there is a possibility for empathy. Instead of violence, there is a possibility for peace.

You've stated that some conspiracy theorists are not harmless fools because their viewpoints have made a significant impact on others (leading to devastating incidents). With that in mind, is it more effective to calmly communicate with them to help them understand why their views are detrimental to others (and society, as a whole) or just call them names and label them as "crazy"? The ONLY pathway to tempering that is open communication with those with whom we disagree. Anything less just makes the other side dig their heels in deeper and continuation of their NOT harmless comments and actions.

So how do we stop or slow down the people that contribute to causing others to do awful things?

That is the thing I used to bring up a lot yet the Media virtually silenced the message. Many got sick. Few died.

Do you feel that way because you disagree with what he is saying or because what he is saying is phrased offensively?

You have done wonderful work here on this issue. I was sooo glad to have you talking on this topic. As for you 'passing on the baton' I totally get it. I have been fighting bigots on gay rights and against stereotyping for decades . Everything was magnified when lives are being lost to during 80's and 90's to my first epidemic. The desperation is palpable all day long, every day.

Well eventually I just got soo tired of the same arguments, the same bigotry , so the last few years I laid back on the topci and let straight allies do more of the work for me on forums like this. And they did it just fine. They were just tremendous. Relax breathe, and pat yourself on the back. The void will be filled here. It does not have to be you. If you aren't enjoying your time here, you should not be posting. So lets get you back to posting on what you like to talk about.

Much respect for your service on the frontlines. In the early days of GRID from 1981-1985 the 'gay plague' years, nobody knew for sure what contact DID NOT spread it and yet doctors, orderlies, nurses stepped up to care for those patients dying all around. that was courageous enough, but you guys knew and that is was even more so.

I'm sorry you are fed up....I've been "fed up" on political issues and for me it's a sign of burn out after heavy over investment in a topic. After a rest I come back to the subject at hand objective but not totally invested and with realistic expectations that my clear concise arguments and sound commonsense will be brushed off and ignored by people with different world view.

I hope you get well rested.

what happened was vaccinations were slowing, which meant we got the best bang for buck we were gonna get, the next things was to release restrictions so more get the vaccine for a second wave... then all we can do it hope for the best and that the unvaccinated overseas do not start a new worse variant

    but that is another topic
