    ah?
There is no reason to humiliate people and demand to be their slaves
In the absence of epidemics private entity do not have such right.
Only elected government can issue such mandate, as wearing mask.

nope, if you don't want to follow the stores rules, you can shop elsewhere, they do not have to let others put their customers at risk during a pandemic

It's not up to YOU to lecture me about an attitude that has no place in the medical field.

To demand masks if no epidemic is declared is insulting.
To force people wear mask is humiliating.
Nowadays many businesses are monopolies (or at least local monopolies) sometimes it is impossible to find shop elsewhere.
I guess private business have some legal limitation of their power.

Again, that "attitude" was a burnout way of speaking. I would NEVER display that attitude in my professional life. That was just Internet Forum speech.

I think you're starting to see the media looking for the scapegoat here. And interesting times, it looks like Fauci.... LOL. The more folks have seen the Fauci funded the Wuhan lab, the more folks are becoming incensed, and of course Media love them some good old fashioned tar and feathering....

What did Fauci know and when did he know it?

"The responsibility of the NIAID and NIH is even more acute because for the first three years of the grant to EcoHealth Alliance there was a moratorium on funding gain-of-function research. Why didn’t the two agencies therefore halt the Federal funding as apparently required to do so by law? Because someone wrote a loophole into the moratorium.

The moratorium specifically barred funding any gain-of-function research that increased the pathogenicity of the flu, MERS or SARS viruses. But then a footnote on p. 2 of the moratorium document states that “An exception from the research pause may be obtained if the head of the USG funding agency determines that the research is urgently necessary to protect the public health or national security.”

This seems to mean that either the director of the NIAID, Dr. Anthony Fauci, or the director of the NIH, Dr. Francis Collins, or maybe both, would have invoked the footnote in order to keep the money flowing to Dr. Shi’s gain-of-function research."

just wear the mask if a business asks them too, or go somewhere else, assaulting someone because they ask you to wear a mask is criminal and cops should be called

calling the cops is the appropriate thing to do when people get violent

As several of us have posted before, Fauci simply redirected this "vital research" to a place that it wasn't illegal to do the work. He knew that it was illegal in the US, so it was moved to China. The documentation is clear about this. The EHA and the NIAID and HIH all knew what the restrictions were, but you know the story... competitive story for funding and all. Really, this is just getting caught and trying to cover it up by producing more actual fear to try to deflect from the crime that was racing towards gain of function and trans animal infection.

IOW, is a very dangerous public official. We have a lot of them.

"“We stand together to strongly condemn conspiracy theories suggesting that COVID-19 does not have a natural origin,” a group of virologists and others wrote in the Lancet on February 19, 2020, when it was really far too soon for anyone to be sure what had happened. Scientists “overwhelmingly conclude that this coronavirus originated in wildlife,” they said, with a stirring rallying call for readers to stand with Chinese colleagues on the frontline of fighting the disease.

Contrary to the letter writers’ assertion, the idea that the virus might have escaped from a lab invoked accident, not conspiracy. It surely needed to be explored, not rejected out of hand. A defining mark of good scientists is that they go to great pains to distinguish between what they know and what they don’t know. By this criterion, the signatories of the Lancet letter were behaving as poor scientists: they were assuring the public of facts they could not know for sure were true.

It later turned out that the Lancet letter had been organised and drafted by Peter Daszak, president of the EcoHealth Alliance of New York. Dr. Daszak’s organization funded coronavirus research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. If the SARS2 virus had indeed escaped from research he funded, Dr. Daszak would be potentially culpable. This acute conflict of interest was not declared to the Lancet’s readers. To the contrary, the letter concluded, “We declare no competing interests.”"

". . . . The charge? That the NIH funded “gain of function” research at China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology that genetically modified bat viruses to become more lethal and easier to transmit.

The reality? In the aftermath of the SARS-CoV-1 outbreak in 2003 — which emerged from bats — the NIH funded studies to sample and investigate bat viruses in China. It would have been odd to do such work in, say, Luxembourg, given that the guilty bats originated in China. As part of these experiments, viruses were tested to determine whether various spike proteins from existing bat viruses could infect human cells. That is very different from modifying these viruses to become more transmissible or deadly (which is the formal definition of “gain of function” research).

Fine points are generally lost on committed fabulists. But this distinction is not fine. There is a large scientific and ethical distinction between genetic techniques that test the properties of pieces of viruses such as the spike protein that occur in nature, and modifying viruses to become more transmissible or virulent in humans. And we know from laboratory analysis that none of the coronavirus work done under NIH funding corresponds to the novel coronavirus as it actually emerged.

The very limited amount of “gain of function” research funded by NIH generally happens in the United States, under the strictest controls. The terms of the grant in China did not permit such research. The charge that the United States funded the creation of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes covid-19, is categorically false. Claiming otherwise is a despicable calumny. . . ."

The right is dwelling on slanderous myths about the origins of covid-19

I have a hard time accepting that the genesis outbreak, as originally reported on and analyzed by the CIT is wrong. They do identify that the Wuhan lab was the genesis, that the research was specifically articulated as gain of function, meaning transmissibility of novel viruses. The idea that we can hide behind a technical distinction of "well our money wasn't used in that way" is stunningly preposterous in so far as the books cannot be reviewed here. The ChiCom folks won't allow it. They "disappeared" the whistleblowers that exposed it.

Mike Gerson doesn't know wherefore he speaks (or in this case, writes)... He doesn't differentiate, for example, between the research he may be familiar with from the Bush administration perspective, to that that occurred while Obama ran the house. Pretty big leap of faith fthat he is credible here.

I will admit that personally, I have great animus for Fauci. I blame him for being the guy that single handedly ensured that "treatment" but not vaccine for HIV was the priority, and forgot that stopping the virus was vastly more important that supplying a reliable annuity to the drug and medical industries. It is his legacy. To use a literary analogy, he is House Harkonnen. and all the evil that represents to me.

So stuff Gerson where the sun finds no foothold. His opinion is just that, and demonstrates some of his more unappealing character.

    Gerson concludes:

". . . All this uncertainty has led to broad discontent with China’s compulsive secrecy. The first examination of these issues by the World Health Organization did not inspire much confidence, and was criticized by the United States, the European Union, a global chorus of scientists and the director general of the WHO itself. The NIH has strongly supported mounting a second WHO investigation, to be given unimpeded access to all materials needed to assess what happened in Wuhan in late 2019.

But this kind of necessary reckoning becomes considerably less likely if the U.S. political system remains focused on absurd partisan charges against American public health leaders. The manias and vendettas of Paul, Carlson and the populist right are helping shield Chinese authorities from scrutiny. Every vile, unjustified charge against an American official delays the next stage of Chinese accountability. Every moment in which American politics is occupied with MAGA myths about covid-19 is a Chinese victory."

I really don't get the absolvement propaganda here. Gain of function wasn't clarified by the Gerson article. Why not address that?

So, it is probably time to start paying attention to credible sources like Nicholas Wade instead of the now fully exposed Fake Science "fabulists"

"Virologists like Dr. Daszak had much at stake in the assigning of blame for the pandemic. For 20 years, mostly beneath the public’s attention, they had been playing a dangerous game. In their laboratories they routinely created viruses more dangerous than those that exist in nature. They argued they could do so safely, and that by getting ahead of nature they could predict and prevent natural “spillovers,” the cross-over of viruses from an animal host to people. If SARS2 had indeed escaped from such a laboratory experiment, a savage blowback could be expected, and the storm of public indignation would affect virologists everywhere, not just in China. “It would shatter the scientific edifice top to bottom,” an MIT Technology Review editor, Antonio Regalado, said in March 2020."
