what point is that? That suicide is selfish?

Of course it is, it causes pain to everybody involved. That is a good reason to try and stop it from happening. Sometimes people suffering can't see the forest for the trees. It's why we have psychological therapists.

Ever wonder why they call them shrinks? They shrink your problems.

I agree what she was going through wasn't a big enough reason to kill herself. She needed to see some therapists. Now it's too late. Why didn't her mother see these problems? Did she ignore them? Something would have been amiss for me when I saw my boy dressing like a girl. Awkward or not I'd talk to him about it. And if it was more than just a game of dress up, I'd find him some help more than "it's a sin against God and you should stop." Seeing as that statement is mostly rhetoric, circular and of no help what so ever.

Yes mental problems in general are selfish, that is where our family and friends come in to help us, let us know our problems aren't that big. I'm willing to bet the mother of this child only inflated the problem. Which is an extremely selfish act that has no excuse.

Yeah the guy had serious need of psychiatric treatment and medication. That you call him a her is pretty evident that you are in denial.

How would you treat a person suffering from gender disphoria (transgender)?

Leelah needed psychiatric treatment for the crippling depression brought on by her bigoted parents and being denied the ability to transition. She needed medication, and the medication she needed was estrogen. The third sentence is without base.

The number one thing transphobes don't seem to realize is that transgender people are not suffering from a delusion. They don't have a fixed and false belief. They're just intensely uncomfortable living as their birth sex.

Apparently, however, it really bothers some people that others decide to do this, because Jesus I guess? I don't know. I don't get why people have to rigidly adhere to the idea that because some people were born with a certain biological role that they can't forego it in favor of one that doesn't make them want to die.

Why is it every one of you people that insist you know better become so scarce when this question is asked?

It seems so important to insist that somebody get help when they suffer from gender disphoria yet everybody's mouth is agape when asked, "What help?"

So far we have "God doesn't like it." As if anybody would know. And " You have a wiener you can't be a lady." I would love to see people present a legitimate treatment that would offer an alternative to surgery. But so far we have failure church groups that understand less about psychology than a fish understand about physics and belligerent clowns that don't like it. How about all the braying Equis Africanus asinus stow their righteous indignation and just let people trained in this field handle it. Science doesn't need political pressure from you.

I know that you and those like you are heavily invested in your need to disparage and ridicule LGBT people. I know that it’s probably not your fault. Perhaps you grew up around bigoted and ignorant people and if so, they did you a grave disservice. Perhaps you were bullied or otherwise mistreated and have a lot of anger. Or, maybe you just never had an opportunity to become educated about and aware of others who are different, in other words you never learned to value diversity.

I would like to help you to overcome your issues and to become a better person. You'll be happier and healthier to be sure. Hatred eats away at your body and soul, and ignorance does not become you.. So to start, here are a pair of articles from the Human Rights Campaign that should help you to better understand transgender people and the difficulties that they face. Enjoy!

Belittling people is how our society works, and most people value people that are like them.

let's take purple jelly beans for example.

The purple jelly beans go on and on about the virtues of being a purple jelly bean and how good it is to be one. Then one of the expresses an unexpected opinion.

That they like orange jelly beans.

The purple jelly beans het all kinds of upset and insult and berate the guy or gal as the case may be to no end until they get the desired results, which is to either change the opinion, or to shut up. If the guy doesn't change their opinion, they will be ostracized from the group because the hroup does not want to hear anything different.

This the common core behavior of all Alerican and western based cultures, regardless of beliefs or opinions.

Liberals do this to conservatives. Consvervatives do this to liebrals. Religious do this to non religious. And so on and so forth.

This is a very common behavior.

But it is a shameful one, especially in a country that is supposed to value freedom and individuality, and the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness is even part of the core document that defines a people's beliefs.

People should be allowed to go their own way and make their own decisions. People who value individuality and liberty would recognize that, even if their own feelings about that way is negative in some way.

Or another way to put it:

Do what thou wilt at no harm to others shall be the whole of the law.

It's wrong to impose one's own morality on to others. it's wrong to force conformity on to others.

But alas, what most Americans value is conformity, it's just that, and at the risk of sounding like a joke on which it is not meant to be in any way, people just can't agree on what to conform to.

And it is all this infighting because of our expectations is what causes problems like this.

If people would learn what true individuality and tolerance means, we would have far less suicides like this.

Most people really don't understand the harm forcing people to conform and obey really does to people.

liebrals and conservatives and religious alike.

Do what thou wilt at no harm to others shall be the whole of the law.

    Remember that.

There is no evidence that surgery as treatment is legitimate. John Hopkins closed their sex reassignment clinic when they conducted a study of those who had been reassigned and they found no difference in the mental health of those who had been reassigned and those who have not. Suicide is just as prevalent whether they've been reassigned or not.

More research is necessary. I believe I have already said that.

Still, doing nothing or telling them "God doesn't like it" is far from effective.

    Do you have a suggestion?

who says "God doesn't like it" ?

    41% attempted suicide rate
minimal if any mental change post-lopmydickoffme surgery

no bathroom or shower rule is going to help a person with a mental disorder. You can't bury your head in the sand and get to say "we're compassionate"

Encouraging role-play is nothing more than a way to make one feel good about oneself but it doesn't help the person with the mental issue. It's called "tough love" to be able to step up and say that "wrong is wrong" and to correctly label something a mental disorder. Then and only then can it be correctly treated.

that would mean having to accept that letting boys shower with girls, or genital mutilation is nothing more than quackery and a way for leftists to make claim that they "are doing something"

Yeah, except that it is the medically accepted treatment for it. Why do you hate science and doctors so much? Do you think all doctors are leftists? Is the need to denigrate the LGBT community so great that you reject science and fact?

The fact is this girl received the cult worship sort of therapy you claim works , where chanting to made up gods magically, though never proven, cures a person.

Please answer all of my questions.

For 70-80% of the kids who express transgender feelings, they simply lose those feelings after a time.

there is no girl in the story

41% attempted suicide rate. I don't consider that to be a success for the leftist approach

Leftist approach? Hows deliciously amusing that your argument, which rejects facts, science, and the medical community stoops even further to go full partisan.

Why is it your posts reject science and medicine? Why is it the hatred in your posts for LGBT people overpowers facts and morality?

    Not at all.

Johns Hopkins is frequently referred to as, in my experience, John Hopkins by folks who are not really certain what they are talking about.

Well, I seem to be aware of their former sex reassignment clinic, the 1st in the US and their status as the top sex reassignment hospital in the US. And aware of their follow up studies that found no mental health benefit to sex reassignment that lead them to shut down the clinic. All things you seem to be completely oblivious to. But you know how to properly spell its name. Congratulations

Explain how it's wrong. What you call "tough love" sounds like willful ignorance. You say it's wrong, but science is not interested in what you think is wrong only what truly is wrong.

Again, you know better than all psychology on this subject? Why aren't you doing anything about it?

These situations are rarely so simple as "bigot parents oppress transgender child". But that doesn't stop all the gay activists and their blind supporters from jumping in where they don't belong.

From the various media stories its obvious the family was struggling with difficult issues, and that the parents are deeply upset by the death of their child. People in the community are defending the parents. You don't get that side of it from the link in post #1, or the people trying to hijack the story for their own personal gain and the gay agenda.

Everyone is so quick to jump on the bandwagon without knowing anything other than a talking point. This episode is just another example of the gay activists willingness to torture anyone when it might advance the homofascist agenda. And all the blind supporters who just see a few code words jump on board like lemmings.

Ah, the infamous gay agenda, the scare words tossed around by scared bigots to try to justify their persecution complex.

I really don't care how bad her mother hurts. Good for her. It's never going to come close to how badly she hurt Leelah. I've dealt with too many people like her to feel sympathy for her when her mistakes finally catch up with her, it's just a shame that they hurt other people.

We could say the same about the anti-gay activists. Regardless, you and I won't be having further discussions; I don't waste my time on people who disrespect me with words like "homofascist".
