That is true, there are many acute and chronic disease processes for which there exists no cure, however, there are palliative measures that may alleviate any particular condition.

However, blood letting had its place in medicine, long ago, before Physicians knew what accute or chronic hypertension was, and no antihypertensive medications had been invented, in the event of a hypertensive crisis, blood letting was the only method to reduce high blood pressure, and thereby alleviated the crisis and perhaps avoid a stroke or CVA.
