    It's called an unconstitutional tax/duty.

He's threatening our preferred access to the largest secure source of raw materials in the world, damaging relations with our largest export market, making it far less likely they'll sell us water (they have 7% of the fully renewable fresh water in the world) at the same time they block direct access to our water in Alaska, and risk that Canada will make a trade deal with China.

If we slap a tariff on cars they produce for GM, Chrysler, and Ford, they'll put an equal tariff on our cars and that will be pretty much the end for the Big Three in Canada, a market about the size of Caliornia. It will also be the end of production here for Canada of so-called foreign cars like Mercedes and Toyota.

I disagree with your assessment. Trump is making enemies of our friends and is attempting to make friends of our enemies with his general approach to friends and enemies, this action being an example.

Actually it was the Canadian electorate who did the misjudging. Can't blame that on Harper.

What impresses you most about Trudeau?

Then you'll see a lot more emigration to the States. But they don't have to 'knuckle under'. All they need do is drop the tariffs on dairy products, which the Canadian public should support in order to stop paying ridiculous prices to the cartels. Are Canadians really supporting higher tariffs (taxes) on cheese, milk, etc.?

Those who don't know the history of Canadian protectionism in the dairy industry should do some simple research,

Anti Americanism has been going on in Canada for generations yet each generation seems to stumble across it as something new. This is just a minor dustup in an enormous teapot and remains standard procedures in all negotiations.

And Trump is justifying and feeding that resentment.

There once was a great boxer names Mohamed Ali. Ali fought every serious contender. However, in between major bouts he stayed sharp by beating up on patsies. This is what I see here. Trump is getting ready for a meaningful bout with China and staying sharp by beating up on a couple of patsies like Canada and Mexico. As I see it Mexico has more class. They went in and negotiated as good a deal as they could. They accepted reality and dealt with it. Canada has decided to go the whiny bitch way. It makes no difference, they have no cards to play and no choice but to bow to the master of the deal.

He doesn't know anything about the art of the deal. Deals are made through negotiation and certainly not threats. He had nothing to do with the writing of that book. He just took the credit. You probably never heard the author speak about Trump and the book. It ain't pretty
and it depicts Trump as he really is.

The deal Dirty Donald struck with Mexico requires them to pay Mexican autoworkers $16.00 an hour??This will jack up the price of any vehicles coming from Mexico, putting them out of reach of many Americans.

Then people won't buy it and there'll be no need for tariffs to protect Canadian industry.

Did you feel the same way about the illegal tax people had to pay when they did not sign up for healthcare under ACA?

Trump should also negotiate a highway charge on Canada for using US highways to transport their goods to Mexico.

I suspect Canada might do that if we would drop our $22 billion in subsidies to our dairy industry.

Ask me on a thread where that's the topic. But spoiler alert: you are barking up the wrong tree.

That's the friggin' point. Do you have any clue what the real issues on the table are? Do you have any idea of the "bullshit" trump has been peddling about the NAFTA and the US Canada trade relationship? Do you have any clue how many AMERICAN PROTECTIVE TARIFFS there are? Do you have any idea of the MASSIVE US TAXPAYER FUNDED INDUSTRIAL SUBSIDIES there are to support american DOMESTIC production?

His position is predicated not on sound policy, but on a pile of friggin bullshit. He ain't gonna get ANY concession on the cultural exemption PERIOD. He can bring the entire house down over it, but Canada will not give up control of its cultural industry protections. We wont commit cultural suicide because of some loony friggin toon incarnation of an American president.

How friggin stupid does he have to be to think he can threaten us with MUTUAL HARM over abdicating control of the production and delivery of the things that define our very nation? MORON is the only word to describe him.

That doesn't mean that he knows anything about negotiating and his conduct is indicative of that. He also has had 5 bankruptcies.

No, and it would not make it ok were it true. If what you say is true, Trump's conduct is way over the top. He is simply divisive by nature.
