Correct. Many many parts are built in other countries.
If they all stopped shipping parts, our auto industry would pull back huuuggggelly.

Congress, especially on the Republican side, are a bunch of cowards.
Not a single peep from them. How are all theses tariffs related to national security?

This is the most recent evidence I could find.

According to a report by Statistics Canada about 167,300 Canadian residents moved to the U.S. between 2001 and 2006*. That's about 33,000 per year. By comparison about 9,000 Americans move to Canada each year, and the U.S. has nine times as many people.Jun 28, 2012

However it's now becoming more difficult for Canadians to move to the US..

Fewer tariffs and subsidies only benefit the Canadians consumer, and I'll all for that.

oh he know how to negotiate in a mobster kinda way. Unfortunately his entire approach is predicated on bullshit predicated on accusing other nations of doing exactly what America does when it comes to selected protectionism and industrial/agricultural subsidies.

And let's not forget simple logic. If all those trade deals and the trade deficit were so bad for America, how ever did it become by FAR the richest most powerful nation in human history?

Yes Canada is an economic pansy. 76% of their exports go to the US. The US owns them. Trump is saying, if you want to trade with us it will be on an even playing field. If they don't want to make that deal he has plenty of ways to squeeze them. Whining won't move Trump.

Good luck exporting to Russia. They don't trade with Canada now, have no need for raw materials and no money for other items.
In fact you need to look at who Canada's trading partners are. Without the US, Canada is hosed. Like I said, Trump holds all the cards.
    1. United States: US$319.6 billion (76% of total Canadian exports)
    2. China: $18.2 billion (4.3%)
    3. United Kingdom: $13.6 billion (3.2%)
    4. Japan: $9.1 billion (2.2%)
    5. Mexico: $6 billion (1.4%)
    6. South Korea: $4 billion (1%)
    7. India: $3.2 billion (0.8%)
    8. Germany: $3.2 billion (0.8%)
    9. France: $2.6 billion (0.6%)
    10. Belgium: $2.6 billion (0.6%)
    11. Netherlands: $2.4 billion (0.6%)
    12. Italy: $1.8 billion (0.4%)
    13. Hong Kong: $1.7 billion (0.4%)
    14. Australia: $1.5 billion (0.4%)
    15. Switzerland: $1.5 billion (0.4%)

Yes, we are quite a good source for intellectual capital. Canada acts like a Triple A minor league source for talent in big league Corporate America and a number of our STEM universities are an important recruitment source.

I agree that lower tariffs and fewer subsidies is a good thing as long as some important exemptions are respected.
And of course the agreement must have an EFFECTIVE dispute resolution mechanism, since the current NAFTA one is a joke and trump wants to weaken it even further.

Yeah that pansy only represents 20% of America's total exports. Not to mention the substantial services trade surplus the US enjoys.

Trump's strategy is stunningly ignorant of the actual facts and his supporters think arguments like the above justify his moronic approach.

Calling Canada bad names and whinging like a five year old about how Canada has exploited America because we are enjoy what is effectively an integrated economy, trump presents the most idiotic bullshit that sadly his believers lap up.

    Simply NOT TRUE.

:flagcanada: has abused trade agreements specifically in dairy and lumber.
Abuses traditionally ignored but no longer.

yes true. softwood lumber has been brought before the trade resolution board FIVE times by the US and have LOST FIVE TIMES.

As to protection of our dairy industry, I guess american 300% tariffs on tobacco aren't abuse, its merely divine right.

thanks for the money tho. Yep we Canadian are truly laughing all the way to the bank. Soon we will have enough to buy the presidency.

It became rich through democracy and free enterprise, though both had suffered from government overreach for many years, as well as increased debt.

Perhaps other nations should do what the US is doing, share their philosophy and adopt the same Declaration of Independence with the accompanying Bill Of Rights. But I have a feeling that these documents would far too radical for any nation to adopt these days. They give the people far too much power.

Do you feel Canadians don't say negative things about Americans? Or Donald Trump? Your post is all whinging.

In fact there is no reason why Canadians should look down on Americans or their leadership, though they usually do, nor should they need to look up to them. Both are great countries with great people. Sneering at your neighbors is just too 'provincial'.

Economists have crunched the numbers and the absolute worst scenario--the end of NAFTA and a 30% U.S. tariff on Canadian assembled cars and truck--has Canada contracting 1% for a couple of years. Ontario would take the worst hit, but then recover when a lot of manufacturing for Canada would return from the U.S.

WTF are you talking about? Yes free enterprise which includes TRADE.

As to other nations, apparently you are unaware of the various constitutions and bills of rights that MOST if not all democracies on the planet have and hold dear. Yes, the American documents are the most significant documents in human history, but it they are also the template for many other nations own defining documents. You know AMerica leading the world, being a beacon of freedom, and all that stuff that apparently was just a happy accident of american democracy and free enterprise.

I guess I shouldn't keep getting surprised by the parochial nature of conservatives and their allies.
