A job is no longer a guarantee to keep a person out of poverty ! From the Documentary "PARK AVENUE" .
You can stream it on Netflix. It explains how the middle class and the poor are getting screwed by the ULTRA-RICH or Republican Ayn Rand following ELITIST !!!!!!!!

Yes, It is horrible that investors in Apple don't just give people iPhones instead of charging them for them.

A lot of people on here have been making the comment. If the poor need more money why don't they get a better . job or work 2 jobs. First of all it takes people of all skill levels for this society to function properly. Someone has to dig the ditch the engineer designs and in my book that's a valuable contribution to society and deserves a living wage. Maybe someone could tell me how this world would function if everyone had a doctorate degree expecting a 100k a year. Next, just how many 40 hr/ week minimum wage jobs do you suggest someone works. How long are you going to put up with subsidizing the Walmarts of the worlds employees with Govt, programs because they refuse to pay their employees a living wage. Please don't come back with raising wages causes inflation. The income gap in this country is 10 times higher than it was 50 years ago. Wages for the poor and middle class have been static for along time while the 1 percenters income has risen exponentially. There is mega room at the top for them to absorb the increases without affecting consumer prices ..

Because everyone should be just be working 16 hours a day spread across three jobs. This is one of the stupidest and idiotic things I've ever heard.

I watched Park Avenue. It was good but didn't really reveal anything that any actual thinking, working American can see everyday.

Like the video says they have all the idiots whining about the people less well off than they are rather than thinking about who is really screwing them ie the ones at the top.

Good point. There's no reason they can't take time during their lunch breaks to sell some blood, is there? Why are they too good to do that, if they need more money? They almost all have a spare kidney, too, don't they? Why are they too good to sell it? Are their daughters somehow too good to be prostituted to bring in a little extra income?

These lazy parasites who think the world owes them a living just because they are working a 40-hour week make me sick. They should try taking frightening risks with taxpayers' money for a change, and see how they like it. They wouldn't last a day selling billions of dollars in worthless securities to other people who are also trying to sell them billions of dollars in worthless securities, believe me.

Uhhhh no. Not everyone should because MOST people do not make minimum wage and do not need two or three jobs to supplement their income. However, if you have no skills, little experience, no education and you are easily replaced because the job you are doing does not require anyone with skill (which is why you're able to have the job in the first place) then you absolutely should have to work a second job to provide. As I had already shown a second part time minimum wage job would put you above the poverty line for a family of three.

Stop ****ing crying like little girls and take responsibility for the fact you lived your life without learning any marketable skills. As such you will be required to work longer and harder than those who DID prepare for the future and learned marketable skills.

The only idiotic argument here is someone crying because they have an entitlement mentality and expect everybody else to be punished for that persons poor decisions.

I honestly don't think anything has changed in 4,000 years, pal. The blood of the poor is still being spilled for the rich and the powerful, and society is still being radicalised on a mass scale -- albeit with the new religion of consumerism replacing the older model of Catholicism. The only real difference in my opinion is that the lies used to justify the foreign aggression and repeal of civil liberties have had to become increasingly more complex as people have gotten smarter.

Catholicism, radicalizing? What are you smoking?
Yes, sometimes I can only gasp in reluctant admiration at the subtlety and ingenuity of the scams. There are some seriously cunning snakes concocting them, no doubt about it.

Very few are tech billionaires. Almost all are rent seekers.

People don't change. They look for all kinds of ways to slither around accountability for one reason and one reason only. Human's are actually lazy at heart. Conversations know that all too well, that is how they hammer the poor. Laziness can sometimes drive inventors to create less frustrating tools that can free up there time. Inventors are not always money driven. Like Richard Feynman once said about physics, "the closer you get to something, the further it gets away from you".

Yeah because it is so wrong that our doctors have to have licenses to show they are qualified. Anybody should be able to do brain surgery to end this evil rent seeking stuff.

In that case, communism seems like the perfect solution. We all do labor, we all get the same pay, and we all spend that pay at government-run markets. No ultra-rich, no poverty. Just equality.

We don't need to go THAT far at all. How about just making sure the working class is not SOAKED unjustly by a lopsided economic system.

We can arrange that without going to extremes.

I think the problems with that are twofold:-

    1) Humanity has biologically adapted to capitalism. We've been doing it for so long now I wouldn't be surprised if it's in our very genes.

    2) Inculcation into consumerist capitalism is a constant influence upon the population. You'd have to convince the general polity that something they've been indoctrinated into consistently since the time they were old enough to watch advertisements for toys is no longer a good idea. That will be very difficult: and not just for communism, but rather any system which arises to replace this broken one we have at the moment.

We can make the changes we must, over time. There are no overnight solutions, that's for certain.

My parents are Black. I grew up knowing that making things better or 'right'... would be a LONG TERM struggle.

Well, it's about the same with making America a better nation for all; it must be pursued steadily over time. Those who want change, will make up their minds to PUSH for the same... relentlessly so.

The lovers of the status quo; those who are overly 'conservative' (extremists), will resist the changes which need to be made. But the wills, needs and vision of a determined middle class in America can and will change the nation.

    But it WILL take time.
