It's not the Schutzstaffel logo, so that's a moot point (see post 57). I get the impression that those guys would have caught grief even if they set their acronym in Helvetica or Times New Roman. Some people are going to see "SS" and lose it regardless of the type font used on the flag...
I can't speak for them, but when considering the KISS symbols which they more closely resemble, it's possible these Marines didn't make the connection.
You misuse the word alleged, probably on purpose. They "allegedly" used the SS symbol while being aware of its previous history with the Nazis. In America we like to assume innocence until proven guity, something that seems very difficult for people on this forum to understand. Somehow they KNOW better than year long investigations and trials.
Here's a couple slides dealing with the USMC policy on tattoos...from a powerpoint presentation. It seems to me the logo flag the Marines posed with could be construed as similar to what is deemed inappropriate by the Marine Corps. Active duty Marines actually saw the pic and brought it up to their superiors as they should have done...once again per the policy on tattoos which can be used in this example of posing with a unit flag.
I'm not sure how you could see them as anything other than SS bolts unless you try really hard like you did. If I were in that unit I'd have told them straight up it looks like SS bolts and needs to be changed. The last people you want people to affiliate you with a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing nazis. Innocent or not this kind of (*)(*)(*)(*) makes all of us service members and veterans look bad. If I were running this unit my boot would be up someones ass right now. That's about it though; inappropriate as this may be they don't deserve any more punishment than being smoked and (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)ed at. Really stupid though.
Are conservatives still claiming that they are KISS lighting bolts? Are they sticking with the conclusion that the marines are to stupid to know they are SS lighting bolts. Are they still claiming that the swastika is just and ancient native American symbol and it is in no way racist? Who are conservatives trying to fool again? Themselves?
I have no idea. What I do know is that if you don't know what those symbols represent you are a complete moron.
They know what it means and they do not subscribe to nazi ideoligy. Every scout sniper platoon ....... I dont feel like retyping it again. Just click here >>> http://www.politicalforum.com/1060844341-post114.html
I read what you wrote. That would make them complete dumb asses. " Sure I have a swastika tattoo but I'm not a racist " Come on man use some common sense.
The Extreme Right hates the military as well. Most extreme right groups see them as a corrupt extention of the evil U.S. Government who will one day use these forces to attack U.S. Citizens on a regular basis. Actually, I hate the lip service civilians give the military and veterans. It is far easier for you to just say "Thank You for your Service" and live your lives like normal than it is to actually do something for our military and veterans. THe only people I actually believe when when they say it is Active Duty/Reserve personnel, Veterans and Police and Firefighters.
I'm sorry they offend you. Wait .... No I'm not. Who's going to do it? YOU!!?? [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5j2F4VcBmeo"]A Few Good Man "You Can't Handle the Truth" - YouTube[/ame]
I would rather they leave me alone. I served for personal reasons. My friends and family among ohters. No one serves for altruistic reasons.
Thank God for ignorant people then huh? Our "ignorant" Scout Snipers took alot of scum off of the streets in Iraq. No one cared about their SS symbol hangin in their living quarters.
Personally, who cares what they hang in their quarters. As long as they are doing their job. Yeah, it is bad that it was discovered, but how many Confederate Battle flags still fly in the U.S.....I see no difference.
Oh, LOL. Dont get me started on the Confederate Battle Flages in the Barracks. When it came to race relations in the USMC Infantry we called each other the most vile words possible to add humor to our day. No one took offense except the passing civilian contractors who werent in on the joke. Those were the good ol days.
We did the same thing in the Navy. Called the Marines a few choice names also. However, when British Sailor tried picking a fight with one of our Marines, it was solidarity all the way. The Marines had orders not to get in fights with the Brits while we were in Israel for a port visit. They never told us Squiddies not to.
