Documents released years ago concerning the "enhanced interrogation" techniques (known by the rest of the world as torture) were used on Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in 2003 including waterboarding KSM 183 times in one month. If waterboarding was SO effective, why couldn't they get the name of these couriers then?

News reports state that detainee interrogations during 2007 produced the name of the courier that US intelligence tracked to find Osama bin Laden's hideout in the Suburbs of Pakistan. The information is still vague but there is ZERO evidence currently that waterboarding KSM had anything to do with it.

    Sorry, righties. No sale.

If it had happened during the time when they were torturing detainees, surely Bush and Cheney would of jumped on it in order to get OBL.
The reports coming out is that the WH has been tracking this courier only since Aug 2010.
I don't generally (well never) watch Faux news. I was just curious after seeing how sad this forum had become. Some here making this a sad event instead of a celebration with their partisanship. Honestly I was surprised that a couple of guests gave full Kudo's to OBAMA. Of course the troops too, but that is to be expected from all sided I would think.

Ugh. Been spending the whole day painting the same picture.

The CIA got bin Laden. Woulda gotten him years sooner if we didn't go all out with 100,000 boots on the ground.

    I love the CIA!

And by the way, we are supposed to believe the Osama Bin Laden hasn't moved anywhere in four years?

"If waterboarding was SO effective, why couldn't they get the name of these couriers then? "

One reason might be that the detainees in our custody didn't know the couriers real name.

The reason for code names in the Spy v Spy business is to keep things a secret.

But the Bush era intelligence people did get a lead that eventually produced Osama bin Laden.

Which Obama is now garishly taking credit for.

How about a quote from Obama on Obama "taking credit"! I would be interested in that.

You already asked me that question on another thread and I answered you.

Obama's speech was filled with Obama describing himself as the key player or driver in this event when in fact he was little more than a passenger.

"And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network.

Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden. It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground. I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan. And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice.

Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body."

they did, the nick names at least

Maybe you should write a note of apology to Bush and Cheney for all the posts you have made through the years now that it turns out they know more than you do about foreign policy

You call that proof that waterboarding DIDN'T provide valuable information? Where? Where in your OP, does it prove that? It doesn't.

We didn't have to waterboard the detainees.

Bush just did that for fun.

Most of the crazy Muslims would willingly rat out their fellow terrorists in exchange for extra bacon on their BLT's.

    LOL!

They just can't admit that breaking KSM's will with waterboarding worked.

His advisors were telling him NOT to authorize this. McCain sure as hell never would have authorized it.

In the words of Rush Limbaugh. THANK GOD FOR OBAMA!

I guess its in the title of the thread he wrote. Although, nothing in his post supports the claim in the title. Seems hes more impressed with his personal declarations of fact than most would be.

I can agree that a CIA op would have been better all along - Look at Bail. We got the perpetrators AND the upper echelon by good old fashioned police work but NOT by taking over - instead we went in and told the local police THEY were in charge we would just help when and where we could

    Worked like a charm

Bali is not Afghanistan and SW Asia is in the Australian sphere of influence. We'd do the same thing if it was Mexico, Canada or South America where we have the most influence.

Afghanistan was completely different and it wasn't just to catch OBL. We punished the taliban in retribution for assisting. They were accessories in 9/11 and we threw them out of power for that precise reason.

Since when was vengeance and justice not a reason to go to war?

Bush does deserve credit, not all the credit but he is the guy who set up the stategery for Obama to follow.

If Kerry got elected in 2004, we wouldnt even have been there.

He did direct the CIA to work harder to find OBL in 2009. Bush basically gave up in 2006, defunding the part of the CIA.
The only thing that may have come from the bush era is a code name for a courier.
But this was a multiyear effort starting before 2009.
