Why do you take what he said literally?

Why do you assume he didn't mean what he said?

So Jesus was just joshing when he praised the OT laws? He didn't really mean it? He thought his Father was evil for commanding those laws? Ladies and gentlemen, I think we've found the forum's first Marcionite.

    "Marcionite"???

And just because you praise something doesn't mean you think they are perfect.

Yes, Marcionites believed that the God of the OT and his laws were evil and that Jesus came to fix what that evil God created. Which appears to be what you are suggesting here.

I notice you still haven't addressed what I said about the NT as well.

In Matthew 25:31 to end Jesus tells his followers that those who don't search out those in need, in hospitals, in poor houses, in prisons and tends to their needs is going to go to hell, whether they are his followers or not.

I think your "fire escape" is tenuous at best.

Christians waring with Christians over money ... that was what the Civil War was all about - and their belief in Christ did nothing to
slow the bloodshed. End of story.

The Southern states seceded over slavery. They explicitly stated so. And they had already made moves to capture Federal property before Fort Sumter. The slave-hungry South were the aggressors.

So you are defending the OT laws, then? You think, in the least, that it USED to be okay (not just okay, but morally required) to murder apostates, blasphemers, homosexuals, people who work on the Sabbath, and even children?

Who says a religion has to be about some god?
And what god would one be referring to in some religion?

There have been 1000s of gods thoughout mankinds history.
Has their ever been killing or genocides done in the name of some god?

Don't religions tell you what your beliefs have to be?
If one doesn't follow that particular religions beliefs, they are not allowed to be a part of that religion.

    You mean like 'reparations'?

That's bad .. I mean what sort of evil mind thinks it's okay to punish someone today, for something that happened 200 years ago?

You are literally defending murder. Even the murder of children. But you do you. I appreciate you proving both my point and the moral depravity of your proposed demon.

God is not subject to the moral beliefs of mere humans.

Do you explain the reasons you do things to your dogs or cats? Well God is far higher above mere man than you are above dogs or cats.

I have no idea how that is supposed to apply to what I noted about the key difference between Christianity and other religious establishments and beliefs. And back then with all those competing religious faiths someone preaching absolute redemption and an angelic welcome into paradise for not a very demanding act to get it would have attracted a lot of believers I would think.

If God believes it is okay to murder people for thought crimes and to murder children for the actions of their ancestors, then he is the ignorant animal in this situation.

God is not subject to your archaic sense of morality.

Why would you say or think that? They don't dictate my morals to me.

What morals are you talking about? So what morals do you hold that you believe I as an atheist do not? Pretty simple question if you are going to discuss the morals of each.

And the war wasn't started, by Lincoln's intentional provocation, to end slavery and free slaves. Slavery was legal in the United States throughout the war even after it ended.

Never claimed it was. Nor did you actually address anything I said. You are dodging again. Like you do every time this subject comes up.

What Happens When We Stop Believing in God?

Nothing physical. Nothing spiritual. Just the connection, the individual's connection is severed, but not that of God's.
