If by slavery you mean being captured, held against your will and not being a free man well then sure, it’s kind of like slavery...:eyepopping:

My question didn't really have anything to do with states. It was whether it is right for me to force you to provide me health care. Personally, that sounds to me like some sort of slavery or at least involuntary imprisonment. I'm sure you would object. It would probably interfere with your plans for that day.

My ankle hurts. Can you please be here at 7:00 tomorrow morning to give it some health care. I have a right which you are obliged to respect.

    You dont get it.
Those with less money have a right to make you pay for their stuff, but you dont have a right to make them pay for your stuff.
Rights are defined by how much money you have.
Did you not get the memo?

But that's not universalizable. Rights have to be universalizable them to be legitimate.

No. We just did this. If you have anything new, put it out already. If not.... you're on your own.

Sneaky sneaky boy. Nobody knows where anyone is. That must feel so cool.

So we are agreed that healthcare cannot be a right because that would require enslaving one's fellow man.

Yeah, it's so hard to copy and paste. Which make the whole "I already did" ploy pretty lame.

I love the "I already told you" ploy. It smells like victory.

The people who hide crack me up. They want to be all sneaky and not let anyone know when they are on the site. I wonder why they feel the need to do that?

What is that "universal moral principle"?

yet, here you are arbitrarily arguing that your right to healthcare at the expense of strangers is legitimate.

That is not the definition of objective.

In fact, what you are arguing is that morals are entirely subjective to the people who are involved and that there are no objective morals since they change depending on the time, place and circumstances.

Also, morals and ethics are largely the same. You could argue that the difference is that ethics are more based on moral principles, versus individualized subjective morality, but that doesn't make ethics different from morality.

You make up a lot of stuff to suit your arguments.

If they bear any of the cost, they're not free-riding. You can argue they don't bear a share proportionate to use, but that isn't free-riding.

Moreover, I'm not even sure what you mean when you say "most of the people who use taxpayer funded infrastructure and services do not incur the full cost." It's just a really sloppy, dumb statement. Please try to be more coherent. Why don't you just read it to yourself a few times and think about how stupid it is?

    Pay for your own crap.

Are you sure of what I mean when I say progressive taxation of income?
    What about indirect taxation?

No individual has the right to take another's property. I'm glad we agree on this point.

I’m afraid, once again, you’re arguing against a position that I don’t hold.

Your position isn't that health care is a right? I thought that's what you said.

Oh, am I mistaken? So health care is not a right, in your opinion?
