OK already ... I know what my I.Q. IS or was.
I was THE only member of my Family { I have 2 brothers } to have had
an I.Q. test as a juvenile. From the 8th grade. I was determined as having an
I.Q. of 119. I remember my mom seeming proud of that fact. She brought it
up on occasion. So when I heard of a few other kids in my class, one in particular
who had an I.Q. in the low 140's ... I thought. I don't wanna know anymore about
    I.Q.'s. To this day ...
I.Q. Schmyque ! is far as I'm concerned.
The smartest Kid I ever knew was my best friend. From High School and
then roomed with for 3 years in college.
He purposedly acted dumb. But when it came to solving something,
mostly anything non-social { he was a social nerd } his Genius was front
and center. As if he lived to solve problems.Especially problems mechanical
and electrical { he was an Electrical Engineer }. But I personally saw and
helped him put together a totally smashed up 1966 corvette which was basically
in parts in a few boxes. He had to find at a junk yard the needed parts for the
original engine. He totally rebuilt the dashboard { Corvettes are noted for their
complicated under the dash electronics } and most everthing else.Plus he
learned real quick how to Re-fiberglass a damaged fiberglass body.
Howwever his weakness was painting. He refused to fool with it.
So he had a body shop paint the car.He still has that car.
I remember him telling me,in the mid-80's how he used his '66 corvette
one morning to clear the snow off his driveway. He managed to get a hold of
the Infamous M22 Rockcrusher Tranny. It was a near impenetrable 4 speed.
He bragged how he just went up and down his driveway until the snow
    banks gave in.

The offended party has now realised that no offence was intended, and I don't need lectures from you about the nuances and peculiarities of discussion forums; I've probably been on such sites longer than you. Oh and your odd style of abbreviating words and phrases gets on my nerves. Just sayin'!

Yes, I know Chrisl forgave and let it go and that's good, but that's not the point and how long you've been on other sites is irrelevant. I find the fact that an adult wouldn't realize that the words 'you're stupid looking' is nothing but rude, but then tho't m/b you really didn't realize and that's why I posted what I did......

And for an adult to be 'annoyed' by someone's abbreviations of words is rather odd. This style of writing has been around since the beginning of the English language. This has been w/me since I was 18 and, as secretary, had to take notes during mtgs at work.....so don't read my posts.

    Have a good day.

ChrisL didn't 'forgive' - her equanimity was restored after I explained the motivation for my perceived rudeness.

Your IQ can vary up or down by several points if you "exercise" you brain. I can't remember where I saw it before so no link but one study showed that children's IQs went down after a summer break from school. In the real world your IQ does not always lead to success. I am considered "gifted" according to this test but when I was a young'n I was constantly in trouble and got bad grades because of ADHD. Once I got treated for it my state standardized test scores were so high I brought my entire schools average up by 5%. Some tests measure working memory (something that is impaired with ADHD). I might not do very good at that lol.

I would guess that although someone could have an inherent high IQ, they might also have a borderline case of dyslexia which is so mild as to have hitherto been undiagnosed, and that could compromise the definitive score. Spelling is the only thing I'm good at. Why, I can even spell 'onomatopoeia'. [IMG]

Yup. The majority of IQ tests base IQ on abstract reasoning. Highly intelligent people can see patterns or recognize things that aren't immediately obvious to others, whereas average or lower intelligence individuals cannot. The finger is to hand a leaf is to blank is a good example. A very simple minded person might think trees, a highly intelligent person would interpolate that a tree is one body, branch is to arm, hand it to twig, and finger is to leaf.

Actually, I was wondering why you would be so rude to me when I've never been rude to you. Now, I understand that was supposed to be a joke (although not too funny), but that is something that you would expect from someone you know well and have been friends with for years, not a relative stranger on the internet. A little social ineptness there on your part. :) Don't speak for me either. Thank you.

I think I got it now. " The finger is to hand a leaf is to blank. "
Lots Posters use fingers {Which usually are on their hands } to post stuff
that is " blank " or devoid of substance.Even a fallen leaf in fall can be a thing
of beauty and substance.Decorating the ground with colorful patterns and enhancing
the landscape. The eventual end { goal } of a message board should be to improve
thought and our Opinions.Being critical is also imperative. Else how would great thinkers
and writers get their POV across.Like Voltaire.Or Oscar Wilde.Plato and Jonathan Swift.
    Chaucer and Ambrose Bierce.
    Oh and Me ... or Me,me,me,me,meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !!!!

I thought it was "leaf is to branch." When I think of twigs, I think of a piece of little broken branches with no leaves, like you have all over your yard after a storm. In fact, according to Merriam Webster . . .

    Definition of twig
    1
: a small shoot or branch usually without its leaves
    2
: a minute branch of a nerve or artery

Test are constructed to detect differences. The right answer is not important. What is important is that smart folks answered it one way and stupid people answered it another.

Lol. What? Sorry, I don't what you're talking about. Where was the word "blank?" I was referring to the question in the IQ test.

    - - - Updated - - -

These types of internet IQ tests don't mean anything. They are purely for entertainment purposes. :)

The right answer isn't important? Lol. Oh, okay.

Who cares anyways? Does it help you get a job? No. Does it help you make friends? No.

I don't tink that I.Q. tests rely too heavily on luck { lol }.
But if you wanna believe that drool ... then go right ahead.
Do they use I.Q. tests on chimps who were slated to go into space. ?
    - The disturbing question posed by I.Q. tests -- are chimps cleverer than us ? -

{ Researchers in Japan have pitted human adults against five year old
    chimpanzees in a test of mental agility and memory -- and the chimps won. }

Does it help you get a job? Depends on the job. Usually a nice rack is more helpful. Does it help you make friends? Definitely not The nice rack wins hands down, here.

Luck? I'm sorry. Again I have no idea what you are talking about. I never said that. I said they are for entertainment purposes. These are not REAL IQ tests. I could make one and post it too. :D Anyone can. You should take a lot of the things you find on the internet with a grain of salt.

Is it "cleverer" or "more clever." :D Answer: Both.

Are you being serious? :omg: LOL means laugh out loud. Did you know that?

    - - - Updated - - -

I think you are the one causing "friction" here. Claiming people said things that they didn't say, such as when you posted that I said these tests had to do with luck, which is not something I ever said. Who is causing trouble?

Anyways, to get BACK on topic, these tests don't mean anything. They do not help most people get ahead in life. They are simply a general assessment of intelligence and are not always accurate either, especially online tests. There are too many other factors to consider to generalize people according to a score they received on an internet IQ test.
