Disclaimer: While the above quote is longer than allowed by the rules it is still not the entire quote. Secondly the content contains a warning about how lives can be lost which pertains directly to our current dire situation. Given a choice between receiving an infraction and potentially saving someone's life I don't have a problem with receiving an infraction under these circumstances.

That was the 2nd wave of the 1918/1919 Pandemic and it happened because some people were in the same mood that they are in right now.

The LESSON is that Covid19 does NOT care how long you have been taking measures to prevent being infected. The moment you STOP taking precautions BEFORE this is over you just allow it to come right back again...and in 1919 it killed way MORE people in the SECOND WAVE!

So if you are thinking about protesting right now at the very least WEAR A MASK while doing it!

If not for yourself because you might be asymptomatic but for your FELLOW PROTESTERS standing next to you!

Stay safe because WE are ALL in this TOGETHER!

History repeats itself. People never learn from it. They always think "this time is different". Why? Because humans are intrinsically irrational.

Since you put this in the Coronavirus Pandemic Discussions section of the forum you are referring to Michigan's et al's protests? Please show where these protests caused any deaths.

Are you unaware of HOW Covid19 spreads and how LONG it takes BEFORE anyone dies?

Hey, I didn't put this anywhere. At least address the correct poster, if you can even muster enough time to read who posted what before you post your kneejerk response.

    Some more than others, unfortunately.

What did NOT help was the partisan pimping of these protests for personal gain so he can claim to have "reopened" the economy.

Oh, I see. The OP is a poster I have on ignore. Because of that the only post I saw was yours as his posts are invisible to me. It even makes it to where I cannot see any quotes from him when other posters quote him. My apologies.

No problem, sorry for being snarky :).

Since you can't see the OP, this is about the 1918 Spanish Flu, and the public response to it:

Now do the partisan criticism of the protests for political gain so Trump doesn't get credit for reopening the economy. How did that help?

Or don't you realize this works both ways?

When asked by a reporter if the protesters were endangering lives by not wearing masks, Trump's response was:
"No, these people are expressing their views."

You can't make this sh!t up!

He really does NOT have any clue that his failures are killing Americans.

Yet another hilarious fear-porn/orangebadman thread from obviously politically-motivated LW feigning "public safety" to make fun of in a couple of months. I don't know how my keyboard will be able to keep up with all the sarcastic "likes" in the mid summer.

I share the concerns of many of us who warn against rushing into "opening up" too soon. To say the least, I won't be in the leading group of 'lemmings' who go diving off the cliff....

There is SO much we simply don't know yet about this disease -- I could copy/paste and type for the next hour and still not hit on all the important points.

I think we can all agree at this point that the COVID19 virus is, indeed, a bio-engineered, weaponized disease which, somehow, got unleashed onto all of us. Perhaps that is WHY it seems to be such an enigmatic virus which so often, and so consistently, has the "experts" saying, "We don't know _______________" (Fill in the blank)....

Either that, or, they'll say one thing with great confidence -- and then change their minds about it completely a couple of weeks later.

Hint: if you were creating a weaponized disease, you'd WANT it to be hard to figure out, and even harder to defeat!

I'm very sorry about these protests, because these people are on my side. I'm surprised our Lefties aren't cheering them on.
One thing that cannot experience a shortage are Darwin Awards, and I suspect these folks are going to get a lot of them.

    Exactly.

Take the irrationality of comparing a virus that has killed far fewer people worldwide than the seasonal flu and pneumonia to the Spanish Flu ( that's racist).

Actually the "rub" is trying to compare a 100 year old pandemic that killed upwards of 50 million people to one that has killed less than 200k (if you'd like to count people who die of heart attacks as 'covid related', that is).

If you'd like to actually have a "rub" to compare, let's compare it to the annual (as in every year) death rate of 290k-600k seasonal flu deaths.

    Aaaaand go.

What a load of bullshit. If you can't see that what's going on now is worse than flu then you are... I mean, FFS, just look at the daily death rates! You won't find anything similar in recent history pre-covid 19. I hope you're just playing contrarian for the sport of it. Seriously.

If one death will save one freedom X 328,000,000 Americans, it will be worth it. As Democrat Governors gleefully rip away at freedoms we have enjoyed for over 240 years, the war that should ensue is existential. Democrats are already spying on Americans and colluding with the ChiComs, trying to give away the country.

The drones donated by DJI, a Chinese company, have gone to 43 agencies in 22 states, all to help enforce social distancing rules.

Too late. Orwell grabbed it first.

COVID-19 is a disaster for people on death's doorstep. Swine flu didn't kill as many because it mainly hit younger people. Nothing compares with the 60.8 million the pig infected though.

The fatality rate will be around the same as or less than the seasonal flu, even after the powers that be goose the numbers by calling everything including bicycle accidents COVID-19 related.

Bullfingshit. Again, when have we ever seen daily death rates like we are seeing now for flu? Maybe 1918 was the last time. So really, gtho with that weak sh**.

The question of whether fundamental human rights can be suspended in a crisis is by no means an easy one.

I disagreed that society should be shut down because of COVID-19, but since we're doing it anyway I participate in social distancing and follow the advice of my government's health department. The result is going to be absolutely catestrophic, unlike any depression we've seen before, so despite my opposition I feel we may as well try and get something for it.

I am however very on guard about the direction government goes in, especially with regard to the inevitable retention of some portion of these powers after the crisis. History shows that they NEVER give back all their emergency powers.

We should be cooperative but vigilant at this point. Insist on a full reset once we have erradicated it and work forward from there after several months. Hot heads do not make good policy.

Public Safety always overrides individual rights!

Once public safety becomes a non-issue individual rights will resume as normal.

The "big brother" conspiracies never change, they just find another thing to be paranoid about.
