You say he walked onto the balcony in a fight? A man with good aim killed him. I used the accountant services of a former FBI agent who has citations on his capture of James Earl Ray. He gave me a few details.

Abe was very racist yet approved by Democrats. Wonder why?

    1. Balcony? MLK died martyr.

    2. Lincoln, a socially liberal Republican, is remembered fondly for his leadership in reuniting the Union and for abolishing slavery in America.

How could Lee operate as a General of both sides?

Given he left the Union in the open, and he was handed duties, how was he a traitor to the South? Why do students at the military academy still study Lee?

Why would a citizen of VA or any of the South remain loyal to a group of the north planning their destruction?

Which military academy? West Point? Anyway, officers study tactics of many great military leaders in history regardless of which nation they fought for.

Yep, King got shot on a cheap motel balcony. I guess you don't really know his history.

If you think deporting blacks is socially liberal, how about that. I did not expect that label to be hung on Lincoln. Abe did not abolish slavery. Congress had that authority. Abe was in his grave when the 13th amendment was passed. In fact, only the congress had acted during Abe's lifetime.

Very good. Yes at West Point. I used to debate this on an AOL forum with super educated people that spent no time running down Lee. Lee ranks among the greatest commanders. Tear down his statues might try to erase him from history. We don't see his statues here in CA so it was awesome to see them when I visit the South. And awesome too that he is at Gettysburg national park.

Ever been to West Point MA? I have. It is a very good place to tour.

    1. MLK was killed because he fought for civil liberties. The shooter probably would have held your views on the Lee statues, too.

    2. Lincoln is regarded as comparable to the Founding Fathers. You're clearly in the minority.

They study Lee the way a biologist studies an effective virus.

    Fair enough.

I admire both freedom fighters. The problem is that there are many who want to tear down Lee so I won't be able to keep him.

I have a very popular view of Lee. I think much of this country sides with me.

Abe was destructive to this nation. We still to this day suffer due to his war of aggression. He caused the deaths of 630,000 and republican or not, I can't forgive that.

I happen to recall as if yesterday how MLK lived his life. I hear he womanized a lot.

Not in my book. He was a failed freedom fighter.

Does it. What did I say you believe to be wrong?

How many great statues globally have you ever seen? How many would still stand using your logic to keep them up?

I enjoyed the rich texture in the South and PA with their magnificent statues of Robert E Lee.

I am well aware Democrats want history to be stamped out, but i don't want it stamped out.

Ditto. I see him not as my enemy, but a historical figure.

The Confederacy was doomed from the get-go Lee should have been hung for causing the death of a lot of men and being a traitor

If you feel that a city is somehow better by persisting in displaying monuments to individuals who turned on the United States, rejected the United States Constitution, fought against and killed soldiers and sailors of the United States, to perpetuate keeping humans in bondage for profit, and to extend that practice elsewhere, I don't see how.

I suppose you can pretend that abolishing slavery was achieved by "soreheads" if you need to, but the institution and monuments to those who fought against the United States to persist in it is are noxious to those who embrace American values.

Really, if they were so powerful how was a black man elected president? Where were they when he was elected twice?

Probably because the Vietnam war was a little unpopular. Who knows who will get monuments in the future? The monuments under dispute were not created until many many years after the war. If slavery is the reason to remove the monuments then maybe all monuments should be removed and names stricken from history because slavery was common place during that and previous eras. Maybe we just shouldn't have any great people from history because slavery was in existence world wide throughout history.
