Well, isn't that interesting. To me it all points to one thing. Heart failure. Alcohol can cause that.:heartbreaker:

Actually common sense should tell you that.

I learn things from books, wise knowledgeable people, school, etc... not Hollywood. That would be the first mistake.

Where did you get your medical degree?

That's the first time I've heard of heart failure being the number one mode of death with acute alcohol toxicity. Tell us more.

What a friggin mug! If I had to look in the mirror at that in the morning, I'd go looking for heroin too...Looks like she could've eaten a double double in two bites....As Rodney Dangerfield said:"The last time I saw a mouth like that, it had a hook in it...

    Whitney was beautiful.....RIP

Amy was gorgeous, too. Both she and Whitney were amazing talents, and both were taken way too soon.

I wasn't much of a fan of Whitney, I can barely name three of her songs, but no one can deny she had one of the voices of the century. Its a shame she went through problems with drugs and alcohol, which seems to be the case for so many starlets in the public eye. IMO, the media is responsible for most of it. They take pictures of a star not looking their best, poke fun of them in their magazines, then said starlet turns to drugs and alcohol, or starts having multiple facial surgeries, which fuels the fire even more.

It must suck to be famous. I couldn't handle it. I just feel for Whitney's daughter, Bobby Christina.

    RIP Whitney.

It's awesome that once someone dies that there are places on the internet where people can gather around and spit on the corpse.

I didn't claim to be a doctor. I'm an xray tech of almost 30 years, with degrees in 3 modalities.

She had a history of alcohol and cocaine abuse. In combination over time both can weaken the heart.

Having 3 or more alcoholic drinks a day, creates a risk for alcoholic cardiomyopathy; a weakening of the heart muscle. Also, drinking too much alcohol can lead to high blood pressure, and hypertension is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease.
Drinking excess alcohol cab cause cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), which in turn, cause a heart attack. In rare cases, drinking an excessive amounts of alcohol may cause sudden cardiac death.

If Miss Houston was drinking excessively all day, she could have had a heart attack.

I haven't even mentioned the long term effects of cocaine usage on the heart. The long term effects include irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, and heart attack.

Considering her known history of combined usage and abuse of alcohol and cocaine over the years, I have no doubt that Miss Houston's heart health was compromised at the age of 48.

So next time you have the urge to get impertinent with a total stranger on the internet about medical issues, and that person's qualifications to opine about them - don't.

Considering the caliber of your posts, preaching to others about manners isn't appropriate.

Neither actually. Its sad that a young woman of her talent would do that to herself.

Do we need to endure them the day the woman was found dead.

I am not taking my anger out on anyone. At least give her family alittle time to grieve, did this pictures really needed to be posted today. I hope and pray none of her family members visit this site. Talk about being insensitive.

The various over the counter painkillers like Tylenol, etc. cause TENS of THOUSANDS of cases of kidney failure, and deaths each year.

Aspirin would be a prescription only painkiller if it were developed today, the only reason it is not is that people were making it themselves LONG before the FDA existed, and it was grandfathered in.

    About that.
Two things cause grey skin: shock and peritonitis.

I'll be ruling out shock here, cuz that doesn't fit the circumstances.

    But peritonitis does.
The two major risk factors for primary peritonitis are cirrhosis - a scarring of the liver which is often the result of prolonged alcohol abuse, OR infection from peritoneal dialysis.

So the grey skin could be a sign that her liver was failing - also a scenario for death.

Liver failure? Heart attack? If it wasn't an outright drug overdose, either of these could have been the reason. Or outright alcohol poisoning.

There will be an autopsy; that'll take about a month.

Oh, baloney, Mak! I've never bought into that crying jag about how the media, the papparrazzi made the celebrities lives miserable......

People work to become celebrities, whether it's singing, in the movies or on stage or whatever b/c they want to be famous and the more attention they get from the media, the more they like it b/c it puts their name out there and they want to become a household name..... that's their goal and they use the media to make it happen......

Then when they're famous and wealthy, they gripe that the media won't leave them alone ....... they gripe that they don't have any privacy.

Many can't handle the spotlight of fame or whatever problem they have, so they turn to drugs so they can slip off into their little world of fantasy and that starts their decline into hell.....

IOW's ..... they do it to themselves. No one forces them to seek stardom - unless it's the parent of a child actor.. and look at how tragically many of those lives ended up.

Whitney Houston had been approached by Simon Cowell about being a judge on the "X-Factor", to replace Paula Abdul or Nicole Scherzinger.

Whitney replied that she'd "...rather be dead than work on a piece of (*)(*)(*)(*) show like that."

God said, "Gee Whitney, if that's how you feel...". ;)

I'll always remember the first time I heard "I Want To Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" - it sent chills down my spine!

What a voice, what a range, what a loss.

Rest in peace, Whitney - you deserve it.

These issues are complex. You can't diagnose a patient without a complete history and physical exam. Anyone attempting to do that is being foolish. Any doctor will tell you that. You can engage in idle speculation but a number of the statements made are way to emphatic and absolute... again especially from someone who is not a doctor. What is going on here is not how medicine works.

But just FYI the most common mode of death from acute alcohol toxicity is respiratory failure. Either from obstruction of the airway or suppression of the respiratory control centers in the brainstem. I am of course leaving out the most common cause of injury due to alcohol which would be accidents (MVA, fall, etc.)

Any other information such as her physical appearance the day of or what she may or may not have taken is pure speculation, including tabloid stories about her past alcohol and drug use/abuse. Hardly enough to get a concrete diagnosis. She may have done some coke in her room and had an MI. She may have simply had acute alcohol toxicity leading to respiratory failure. She may have had an underlying medical condition that was exacerbated by either a drug or alcohol overdose. She may have had some congenital defect that ended up doing her in and substance abuse had nothing to do with it.

That is the problem with people that are not doctors. They get a little bit of training and then run wild with it. But they were not put through the proper training to do a thorough history and physical exam. They are also not taught how to prudently integrate all the information gathered and come to a balanced conclusion. Often times I see them assume they have more information than they have and charge headlong down some biased diagnosis path to the exclusion of all others. The previous poster made up her mind about this having a cardiovascular origin and totally ignored the most common mechanism of death with alcohol toxicity... assuming that was what Houston even had.

This person reads one anonymous post on the internet saying that the poster knows someone who knows someone who saw her drinking and looking gray. Then BANG off to the races. I'm going to diagnose her. Sorry. Not the way its done.

I take it you haven't noticed that the problems with drugs and alcohol only ever begin after the person is in the public eye? Coincidence? I think not.

Her and Bobby Brown were unrepentant crack heads. It was only a matter of time.

No one ever said fame and fortune didn't have its downsides. So you want people who want to be famous, to be protected by the media that will make and keep them that way, so that they....aren't famous? Is that right? Should people take responsibility for their decisions? Yes.

Again, it is THEIR CHOICE to get into drugs/alcohol just like it's Leroy's, who lives down your block to do drugs or drink to much.......

It's called taking responsibility for your own bad choices and behavior....
