I would be careful there, since gender identity is in large part determined by society and not purely by nature.

Society has a small influence. There are hard wired, natural differences in men's and women's brains.

    As you clearly do.

I'm quite derisive towards my own gender, yes.

Society has a massive influence, actually. Hence why gender roles have differed by varying degrees throughout history.

Gender roles have differed slightly. In 99% of all societies in the history of the world, men play the dominant role. Is this just pure coincidence?

Actually, I don't, I believe we're different. If anyone is sexist, it is you for acting like there is something shameful about women's differences. I like women. I wouldn't change them if I could.

That doesn't make you a sexist. Doesn't make me one either.

They've differed quite significantly in fact - the role of the mother in many societies (Hellenistic, for example) is quite different from that in western industrial society; even today, the fact women are no longer considered chattel versus previously in history.

Men's dominance is an inherited meme originally stemming from the physical advantages men have over women, period.

Allow me to take your head out from the sand for un momento. Try to get your fixation off the perceived plight of women and your own obvious insecurities by concentrating on the OP's focus of the young sissified male in our society. The word 'effeminate' as used in America denotes a touch of female qualities....does it not? I don't know what your your problem is with people using that word to describe young ascribing lady boys, queers, dykes-on-bikes, queer nation, trannies, crossdressers, shemales and our very own effeminate acting young boys. You couldn't possibly believe that we should be calling these sissies anything representing masculinity...do you? Perhaps you're confused with the differences between femininity and masculinity. I'll hold out the possiblility that you could have been or are a tomboy. :)

Pardon, the title of this thread is "why are our young men so effeminate" - in complaint. I ask what's wrong with being effeminate, you give me some ****-and-bull about how it makes them less competitive and independent.

How about you just stop talking rather than disrespecting women.

I'm not the one implying there is something wrong with being effeminate.

Because we need men and women. A society needs both.

Being effeminate does make you less competitive and independent. Don't give me that bull(*)(*)(*)(*) about how I'm a woman hater, I'm immune to your liberal deflection tactics.

There's nothing wrong with being effeminate. There is something wrong when everybody is effeminate. We need both.

In the vast majority of societies, men have played the dominant role.

Then why are small countries like Japan stronger than countries 10 times their size? It's not only about physical attributes.

And yet again, the nature of those roles has varied.

What does that have to do with gender?

    For what reason?

What is the problem with *men* being effeminate, especially if women are becoming more masculine as evidenced by women taking greater roles in the workforce.

First of all, i just LOVE your posts on civil rights issues. And secondly why argue with a feminist, of all the movements in the history of the world feminism has the highest percentage of idiots. My opinion on this is affirmed every time i hear a feminist.

I wonder if I hadn't identified myself as a feminist if you'd be posting this tripe.

Yes, they have varied, but overall, on average, men have always been more dominant.

I was responding to the point you made about men taking control due to physical power.

If everyone was effeminate we would still belong to England.

Your response to SamBarrow right before this one says..."I ask what's wrong with being effeminate, you give me some ****-and-bull about how it makes them less competitive and independent.""How about you just stop talking rather than disrespecting women."

Either you're woefully two-faced, ignorant and myopic, or you're trying your best to turn this thread into a personal crusade to respect women.

Perhaps you should tell us all of what's 'right' with being an effeminate young boy, and to how their being effeminate is this great learning tool in becoming independent/competitive young men.

The laws of nature maybe? Everyone needs a strong side to defend them from external forces, and a soft side to nurture them.

Some men can be effeminate and I couldn't care less, but we are going down a path where being masculine is somehow considered shameful, and men are encouraged to be weaker.

As far as the workforce, on average, men are tougher and are better problem solvers. It's hard-wired. It's not a bad thing. A world without femininity would fail just as horribly as a world without masculinity.

Laws of nature - you mean like natural selection? Oh wait, we let unfit people contribute to the gene pool. Sorry, nature isn't as pervasive a force as you might have us believe.

What's wrong with pigheadedness, rash action, and violence being considered shameful?

Not in my experience. Then again, women have to masculinize to succeed in the workforce so maybe that's skewed.

How would it fail if that's never been the case? Also, if as you say the differences are hard wired then it doesnt matter whether or not we teach boys to be effeminate because they'll inevitably turn out masculine.

I'd rather you did still belong to England considering how (*)(*)(*)(*)ty the US is turning out to be.
