While I don't agree with this authors stance on and opinion of Trump voters I do agree with his conclusion. This is a wake-up call for establishment Hillary supporters in America. Be very afraid!

"America has its own big decision coming up, and if you are a supporter of Trump, Britain's decisive vote to leave the EU is glad tidings, a ray of sunshine after a few weeks of soupy London fog. If you don't want Donald Trump to be president, the Brexit vote is a wake-up call.

The first lesson Brexit has for anti-Trump America is that there's a potential majority out there that is angry, scared, and more than willing to jump into the abyss. Sober analysts and economists warned Britons repeatedly that pulling out of the EU would be an economic and security debacle. "They heard the warnings, listened to experts of every kind tell them that Brexit meant disaster, watched the prime minister as he urged them not to take a terrible risk," says Matthew d'Ancona at The Guardian. "And their answer was: get stuffed."

It wasn't young people giving the finger to the experts, either. According to a YouGov poll, support for exiting the EU steadily rose with each age bracket, from 75 percent of those aged 18 to 24 wanting to stay, versus 39 percent for those 65 and older. If older Britons are proving less risk-averse than the young, there's no reason to think America's most reliable voters are immune to change fever. In many ways, Hillary Clinton represents a continuation of President Obama's policies, and Donald Trump inarguably represents change"

Trump isn't the guy for people to support over the establishment. Just an overall bad choice by Republicans. This Brexit thing will have absolutely no bearing on the general election. Trump is going to get destroyed.

There is an anti liberal establishment sentiment bubbling up world wide and trump will benefit from that. He is the default alternative

Nah, Trump is simply not the right guy for the change. He's the most unpopular Presidential candidate in recorded history. Gotta chalk this up as a failed experiment and get a real candidate that can fight the establishment.

This is a crazy election. We have to choose between Machiavelli himself and a deranged narcissist. Wait, I'm getting confused about which is which!

Like Bernie? Oh wait, he wasn't corrupt enough lol.

    No offense to you personally!

Of course he is! People STILL don't get it, this election is establishment versus populists, and Clinton is the epitome of the establishment when she stood at the United Nations and declared she "never sent or received any classified email," and has back-tracked ever since then.

The British exit from the EU will be interesting to watch as it unfolds. The EU tried to be the United States of Europe but they don't have the proper balance of federalism and states rights. When push comes to shove, European States have far more power than the EU in Brussels. Greece is a prime example too. Frankly, the USA has gone way beyond what was originally intended so now the federal government has way too much power. It wouldn't be bad if they weren't so socially inclined, but the European States were already very liberal before it all began. Like I said, it will be interesting to watch.

The progressives have their heads so far up their PC butts, they don't realize how much the majority of the world despises them. The majority of humans are still prone to Traditonalism and Patrirachy.

    Interesting statistics.

Seems like the old farts, who are afraid of change and want of keep things the way they have been forever have been messing it up for the young folks, for whom this referendum has really the strongest implications.

That makes sense, however. Young people travel and are not afraid of the "others", whereas the old farts like to stay put. I don't know, maybe on decisions like these, that have consequences 20-50 years down the road, the folks who'll be long dead by then shouldn't be allowed to vote (and I am saying this as an over 50 old fart myself)?

There are parallels to the Trump voters, though. They are also mostly middle-aged to old, with less than a high school degree and white. So, it is not surprising that the Trump voters and the Brexit voters cheer for the same things.

Trump is exactly the right guy for the job, but you would have to be able to process the OP properly to see that there is a wake up call that you have not heard yet. Brexit and Trump are essential to western civilization right now. Your default position that is dictated by your ideology is blocking you from being able to process just how critical it is that Trump wins, or at least why your political opponents feel that it is. Even if you don't agree, it is critical for intelligent debate that you at least have an objective view of what your political opponents see. Here is Trump's full statement:

"The people of the United Kingdom have exercised the sacred right of all free peoples. They have declared their independence from the European Union and have voted to reassert control over their own politics, borders and economy. A Trump Administration pledges to strengthen our ties with a free and independent Britain, deepening our bonds in commerce, culture and mutual defense. The whole world is more peaceful and stable when our two countries – and our two peoples – are united together, as they will be under a Trump Administration.

Come November, the American people will have the chance to re-declare their independence. Americans will have a chance to vote for trade, immigration and foreign policies that put our citizens first. They will have the chance to reject today’s rule by the global elite, and to embrace real change that delivers a government of, by and for the people. I hope America is watching, it will soon be time to believe in America again."

I'm not anti-establishment. But just from an understanding of politics, Trump is not the right guy. You need someone who actually cares about people and change and is mature.

70% of America finds him unfavorable. I guess that's the right guy for you, lol.

I agree, it's not only an anti-liberal establishment sentiment but anti-socialism sentiment. What will Germany do? Germany subsidizes Portugal, Italy, Greece, Spain even more than the UK. How will the EU make up for loss of UK's subsidies? Will they raise taxes, fees to belong to the UE?

    UK save roughly $9 billion:
Eventually, you get sick of taking care of people who are unwilling to take care of themselves. Countries such as Germany and the UK have been subsidizing EU countries like Greece, Spain, and Portugal.

Britain paid in £13bn, but it received £4.5bn worth of spending. Britain’s exit would mean the UK could save roughly $9 billion in annual EU membership dues.

Ahhhh the arrogance of youth on display  I'm naturally forgiving of this attitude because most if not all of us go through that phase of life. When I was a kid our motto was " don't trust anyone over 30". Now 30 seems like a kid to me. There is a wisdom that comes with age that youth won't grasp until they reach that point in life and look back and laugh at their youthful zealotry and arrogance. I myself was once a wannabe socialist- communist because it just seemed like that's the way things should work. With the insight of life experience though you realize that the real world is a tough place and your childhood fantasies become a pleasant memory.

Do you feel confident that you know how Trump and Brexit will impact western civilization? Have you been able to look at this from outside the progressive box, or are you looking outside the box through a progressive lens?

I've heard this election described as between the article and the comments section.

A hillary supporter telling anyone anything about a bad choice for a candidate is as hilarious as it gets. Quite amazing .

Perhaps your description of anti-establishment people being "old" and "afraid" is mistaken for the wisdom of years of utopian ideologue being mere propaganda and unobtainable in their quest for power. In general, "anti-establishment" is a youth-oriented position. The times are a changing. :)

Hm should we rely on the experience and knowledge of those in their 40's+ or should we let 20 year olds decide.....hmmm which group is capable of making better decisions?

Please explain how someone who isn't old enough to buy a beer yet, in their vast bank of worldly knowledge, should be entrusted with earth shaking decisions?

Britain had another "finest hour" yesterday.

While Obama, the US President who horribly dishonored the bust of Churchill and threatened Britain if they returned to sovereignty to Parliament, DONALD TRUMP Pledges to Strengthen Ties to Free and Independent Britain.

is that why he funded Hillary's campaigns in 2000, 2004, and 2008?

is that why economists say Trump's policies would be a disaster?

is that why Republicans refuse to fully support and fund Trump, and ahve gone so far as to say they will support Hillary???

tell me, how many Democrats have said they will support Trump?

He's got his work cut out for him. Several UK leaders refused to meet with him. Not exactly starting off on the right foot, is he.

Blast from the past! We haven't had a good hair-on-fire rant about the Churchill bust for months! That fever swamp obsession was more hilarious than anything other than the birth certificate. Where do you fellas come up with this stuff? Seriously.

Yea you keep believing that akphidelt2007. The political elites didn't see the Brexit vote to leave coming. Wall Street and the media didn’t have a clue. They all thought it was a stay vote.

Today was a good day for freedom!

Churchill's bust was a victim of Obama's executive feng shui.
