That's the one that I don't understand. I think people believe that the military are drones or something. They do realize that there are actual people in those uniforms right...We get off work, we change clothes, we go out to dinner, we go shopping, we goto the mall, we watch tv, we have kids, we act up in the bar, etc etc.

We are humans too...I don't think some people understand that.

Funny really. I was "BORN IN THE USA"! I was raised in the USA. I lived it and breathed it. I have seen this country moved to something that is not the US.

Where the hell do those that are from other places get off telling me how I need to live? You can keep your asses over there and we will stay here.

    What is that?

Many of them are european and had to deal with the communist threat a little closer than we did. And the Americans who think that the military would turn on the people are young.

The Posse Comitatus Act is the United States federal law (18 U.S.C. § 1385, original at 20 Stat. 152) that was passed on June 18, 1878, after the end of Reconstruction and was updated in 1981. Its intent (in concert with the Insurrection Act of 1807) was to limit the powers of Federal government in using federal military personnel to enforce the State laws. Contrary to popular belief, the Act does not prohibit members of the United States Armed Forces from exercising Law enforcement agency powers within a State, police, or peace officer powers that maintain "law and order"; it requires that any authority to do so must exist within the United States Constitution or Act of Congress (which it currently does not except under the Insurrection Act).{Federalist 29 (Hamilton, 1788)} Any use of the Armed Forces under either Title 10/Active Duty or Title 10/Reserves at the direction of the President will offend the Constitutional Law also known as Public Law prohibiting such action unless declared by the President of the United States and approved by Congress. Any infringement will be problematic for political and legal reasons.

The Bill/Act as modified in 1981 refers to the Armed Forces of the United States. It does not apply to the National Guard under state authority from acting in a law enforcement capacity within its home state or in an adjacent state if invited by that state's governor. The U.S. Coast Guard, which operates under the Department of Homeland Security, is also not covered by the Posse Comitatus Act, primarily because the Coast Guard has both a maritime law enforcement mission and a federal regulatory agency mission.

Proportionally the UK experiences the same murder rate. The only difference is that it mainly happens through stabbing, smashing of half emptied bottles into your head and even fists.

Liberals are passive aggressive. As a group they want anyone that does not fall in line with their collective ideology to be eradicated. Yet as individuals they lack the stomach to enforce their genocidal ideologies. The military is their dream of robotic marauders that will do their bidding while they hide under the covers. To them you are not human. They are the ones that spit on you as you arrive back in country after a tour of duty. You are simply a despicable being carrying a gun that will do exactly as they bid.
This entire thread is proof of that. One side says they're willing to stand up and fight for their rights.
The other side says, No we'll have the military kill you.
Not once on this forum have I seen a liberal say "I will take up arms and fight you back" No, they always chose someone else to fight and die for them. Thats You.

    Ha yeah, funny story.

I actually had a guy insult me at the airport a few years ago when I was on leave from Afghanistan. I sat down next to this guy at the bar for lunch, I was in uniform having just gotten off of a 14 hour flight from Kandahar Airbase. The guy turned to me and said I wasn't welcome to sit next to him because he doesn't want to be associated with mass murderers. I told him "Geez sir I only ate 2 babies...I thought you had to eat at least 3 to be considered a mass murderer". Then I got up and sat somewhere else. I was way too tired to argue.

Then the bartender came up to him with the sign in his hand that said "We can refuse service to anyone" and told the guy that he could either get up or get thrown out. The guy threw a fit then left. I sat down and drank for free.

So yeah for every 1 far Left extremist out there there are always 10 more people who will fight for us. I'm not worried about them, very few people tolerate what the far Left thinks.

Yes, and as a serving military person you're also duty-bound to follow orders. If you don't then you get thrown out. In time of of conflict not doing so may also get you shot-by those whose orders you failed to obey.

So long as those orders are lawful and don't violate the oath.

No, it does not. Proportionally (that is a per capita rate per head of population), America has 4.8 murders per 100,000 of population, compared with 1.2 in Great Britain. I make that 4x more. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate#By_country

He will not read up and refuses to understand that.

If there is no military objective and it is in violation of the individuals oath, attacking not defending the constitution, that it may be paramount to treason.

It did for the most part. It is NOWHERE near like that anymore. But as with everything there will always be the select few with their extremist views and those are extremely rare. Throughout my career that was literally the only person I have come across who treated me with disrespect. The majority of Americans are proud of the troops are have no problem showing their gratitude. I haven't paid for food or drinks in years and I can't walk anywhere in uniform, especially an airport, without getting stopped multiple times. This happens to all of us for the most part.

Almost to the point where it's unnerving...especially for someone like me who is a bit modest. I don't like attention, at all. I remember one time I had went into the bathroom at the airport to change out of my uniform so I could walk around as a normal person. I walked in and saw a guy in his dress uniform changing out doing the same thing. We both just looked at each other and laughed. We both knew exactly why we were changing.

I absolutely love living in a country to where the citizens are so grateful that they literally go out of their way to run across the aisle and shake your hand, give you their first class seat, buy your food, and just say thank you. I seriously hate the attention that I get, I am way too shy for that. I feel bad if someone tries to buy my something but I don't want to decline and seem rude. I've tried that, they won't take no for an answer. But I love the fact that this country treats its troops with the utmost respect and that they like us so much that it's almost a bit annoying, like a celebrity. But I am forever grateful and we seriously do appreciate it.

No we are duty bound to follow LAWFUL orders. We are allowed to flat out refuse to obey unlawful orders, which we will. Opening fire on US citizens is an unlawful order. I would hate to be one of the few troops that would actually do that...they would be the ones catching hell.

Plus that whole "you can get shot" thing is fantasy. Yes it CAN happen but it doesn't. Just like you CAN be sentenced to death for desertion right now during our time of war. But nobody ever actually gets hanged for going AWOL. They just kick you out, and in all reality they don't even do that half the time.

This isn't the Civil War times anymore. These laws are in place but nobody actually does that anymore.

It was before my time of course, but could you comment on Kent State, in this connection?

Kent State was an atrocity and the National Guard troops who did that are an absolute disgrace to the uniform they wore. This is still a public forum and me being in then military I'm not going to say much more than that.

That was also 40 years ago, times have changed drastically since then. Just like back then the troops were treated horribly by the citizens of the US. Today we are treated like rock stars. Not that this has any correlation with the incident, but just an indicator of how times have changed.

    This.

I would also submit that you should not commit arson, and assault first responders with rocks... and destroying equipment that would be used to put out that fire.
You should comply with lawful orders from the civil authority to disperse... not fight them and rebuke that lawful authority.
It was believed that National Guard troops had been sniped by protesters, with rifle fire.

And yet still this was a disgrace, and an atrocity.

Yes people should comply with lawful orders and disperse when told to do so. But this is the United States of America, not North Korea. If you decide to not move when told to do so you shouldn't expect to get killed. Were the protestors wrong for not listening to the civil authorities? Absolutely. But do they deserve to get gunned down for being stubborn? Absolutely not.

Even if the Guard troops thought they were taking sniper fire that gave them no right to open fire on the crowd of unarmed protestors like that. It was a very sad and dark day.

And how much of that is due to gun control? Not a lot seemingly, since it was that way before gun control. There's no correalation.

How many people in the government can tell the difference?
