Recently went over a new health plan from my company. $22 bucks a month and it is the (*)(*)(*)(*)tiest insurance I've ever seen. WTF? Why do people settle for this garbage when they could just pay another 70-80 a month individually and have good coverage that doesn't leave you out in the cold? I pay 105 a month for excellent insurance.

I mean, if you think that 22 bucks a month is going to provide you with top notch unlimited medical care, then you are nothing but a cheap bastard who doesn't care about your own health and wants something for almost nothing.

If you aren't willing to ditch the 100 a month a cable and buy yourself some decent health insurance, you have no right to complain about the medical care you receive. Medicine is not free, and the cost shouldn't be spread around to all of society, that is morally wrong to make society pay for your sick ass.

that extra 100 dollars a month can go for milk and diapers for their babies.

in a universal system it would be free.

Agree with liberalminority. I've paid way to much in taxes to waste additional money for healthcare crap that I will never use unless someone shoots me or runs me over. Universal healthcare in the USA is the only rational answer.

On the other hand, $100/month is ridiculously low. I think on autopilot I'm doling out $450/month for crap that I never use. I should investigate.

Nothing is ever free. When your parents go out of their way to support you when you fell of your bike as a child it cost them time & energy. When you create a "Universal System" of Healthcare it has to take to begin to offer... So it is merely an illusion that it is Free because those who are taxed for the benefit of all understand it isn't free.

Ah! The conscience of America is at work.

If I can pay, so can everyone else, is the watchword of the day.

Today's America. If you can't pay, don't stay. Your continued health must not be at the expense of conservative wealth. The death of the destitute is the price paid for the continued well being of the strong.

Welcome to the land of the free and home of the brave.

    Whoa, there cowboy.

As one who lives in a country with universal health care I can assure you nothing is "free".

That is typical garbage liberal thinking. The cost is merely shifted to the taxpayer and it's a hefty one. Nearly one half of the province of British Columbia budget goes to one thing: health care. And that's with a cost sharing plan from the federal government and....$62 a month per person health care insurance premium.

    http://www2.news.gov.bc.ca/news_releases_2009-2013/2010FIN0012-000218.htm

That's more than double the next highest expenditure: education for a population of about 4 million.

Income taxes in Canada are much higher than the US for the middle and upper class and we have both a federal and provincial VAT...

I suspect that $100 a month is looking pretty good right now...

there is a progressive tax system, the wealthy always bare the biggest burden for health taxes in a universal health system

many americans can't afford 100 dollars a month for private care, their costs would be free the next guy who is richer will pay for them.

Free is a poor choice of words.

If you think you are paying too much for health insurance, drop your coverage or find another provider. That's the great part about a free market.

Why did they choose to have children if they can't afford health insurance? Why should I subsidize other individuals poor decisions?

We are becoming a society ruled by the lowest common denomenator. Seriously, people need to start taking responsibility for themselves. We can't even come close to affording the entitlements we have now and you guys want to expand coverage? Let me know when you guys touch base with economic reality.

You think people can afford an extra hundred or so dollars a month on top of the rent/mortgage, bills and groceries?

Of course they can, eeryone in the US has a money tree planted in the backyard.

Exactly what I told my daughter this morning when she told me that their state employer provided health insurance had gone up to $800 a month.

Because they COULD afford it when they decided to have children but like millions of other people in this country, could not predict the obscene rise in the cost of health care and health insurance.

My daughter and her husband have ALWAYS taken responsibility for themselves and their children. They're both college graduates and both gainfully employed. They met in college, got married, bought a house and started a family. Isn't that the American Dream? I'd say they're about as in touch with economic reality as anybody could possibly be but they're being over-run by the sheer greed of the health care/health insurance providers.

    this subject drives me nuts..
heath care and health insurance is a scam..
I had a seriuos back injury at work about 12 years ago..after 2 years my workmans comp ran out but I was feeling better by then..problem is I can't work a physical job anymore so I work at home now which sucks but I can get around just fine..
it took me 2 years to find an insurance company that would cover me..
the cost...15,000 per year with a 20,000 deductible..no prescription coverage..
I paid for 8 years and never used the (*)(*)(*)(*) thing..that's 120,000 out the window that I can't afford..I finally said that's enough and told my wife that if anything ever happens to me I'll just blow my brains out and that'll be the end of it..I don't like doctors or hospitals anyway..
    100 bucks a month is a bargain..

the bolded part will be addressed, health care insurance companies are like big banks if one sets prices or fees the others will follow

this is not a free market society it is too big to fail society.

Sorry SiliconMagician, but I find it hard to believe that $105/month (€75) buys you "excellent coverage".

I think it costs about €75 a month to take an additional hospitalization insurance over here. However, this additional insurance is normally offered by your employer as some sort of "bonus".

So, my best guess is you are deluding yourself. If you ever need excessive care you can always send me a PM, I'll make sure to stand bail for you... so you'll be able to receive care in Belgium. You can come to the hospital that bears my name -- although I never go there myself...

Free? Really? Somebody's got to pay. Free to the losers who smoke too much, drink too much and crank out the kids like slices on Boloney off a deli slicer. You should really hope a "universal" system never actually happens. If it does, there's going to end up being a lot of rules your not going to like.

    BTW -- Silicon,

What does your coverage gives you?

What if you have a light form of astma and need a $20 inhaler/month. Does your insurance pays for it? Does it give a reduced price?

yes, and you would never have to absorb the cost in some other manner.

Where do you get $22/month health insurance? The lowest in Washington, according to http://www.ehealthinsurance.com/ is $71/month. That's the crap end on health insurance.
