Now, first thing is first. I realize this is a huge flamebait thread. And I do expect the usual people to post their usual nonsense. They do it in every Islam-related thread.

But, this thread is not meant as flamebait. No, it is meant as a way for eachother, Muslim and non-Muslim, to interact. Discuss our differences, Insha'Allah (God willing) in a productive way.

As with all my Islam-related threads, I ask that the trolls be ignored in this thread. It might be difficult to differentiate, which is why I hope those answering the.question can do so in a respectable way. Is that really too much to ask? I hope not.

So, the question as you probably already know, is Why Do You Hate Islam?

What is it about my religion which causes you to hate a belief system, and the billion plus human being which also follow it?

To my Muslim brothers and sisters, please do not get offended by this thread. I want this to be a chance to have a meaningful discussion about why people see Islam as a negative way. Ignore the trolls, and to the respectful answers, show respect in response. That is how a Muslim is suppose to be, returning respect when it is given.

    Salam
    Peace
    Shalom

I think Islam at its core is not beneficial. I think its tenants conflict with freedom and tolerance. I think it creates a totaltarian environment when the majority of citizens within a country are Muslim.

I know a few Muslim acquaintances (5?)--every one of them are moderate, respectful and seem to share my own values. But I think this is because---they are moderate. They don't fully proscribe to the basic tenants of Islam. I think when you shear the belief system down to its fundamental tenants--this is when you see the true character.

I don't hate Islam. It doesn't mean anything to me just as Judaism doesn't mean anything to me. In a way they are identical so it's a good thing that we don't have to cope with the Old Testament Jews as well as the more fanatical muslims. They are both ethnocentric religous fairy tales that are suited for the Jews and desert Arabs and no one else.

And one thing is for sure: neither one of their gods, or any other god, will ever show itself on planet Earth because they are imaginary and only exist in the minds of superstitous people.

Humanity will be better off when people stop believing in such nonsense as supernatural gods, demons, devils, angels, spirits, ghosts, heavens, hells, paradises, resurrections, reincarnations, and eternal life.

I don't hate it, just as I don't hate anyones religious beliefs..I'm not well informed on Islam so I can't give much perspective but one thought that crosses my mind is that women are not treated well..one thought I can never erase from my mind is an Islam farmer when I was living in Croatia beating his wife and making her work in the fields while he took his donkey home to feed it..
does religion excuse these types of behavior..??
maybe so but in my book it just ain't, right..
in my opinion religion is practiced by the weak and by those that have no hope and need faith as a crutch to give them a purpose in life..

IMO you have to be careful when evaluatng incidents and blaming the associated religion. A lot of behavior is more cultural than religious. For instance, consider burials. The Saudies don't have cemeteries. All of the other muslim countries do. Even Islamic Yemen has cemeteries and it's just down the coast from Mecca.

The same is true for FGM. It existed long before Islam came along. The problem is that it exists in places where Islam is the major religion and the religious nuts claim that it's part of the religion.

The incident you witnessed was probably more cultural than religious based.

    I agree with this post.

Islam is the youngest of the major religions, and the Middle East has a tendency to switch between religions, mostly because it's the melting pot between Africa, Europe, India, China, Russia and some island cultures. No other culture has the same strategically awkward position. Add upon that the problems coming from oil, the most sought after raw material in the world, colonialism, which left the worlds most inconvenient borders (there are places where the borders are lazier, but they tend to be less populated), and so on. The culture is going to be harsh whatever religion you put there. The same problem can be seen before Islam and when other religions have been large beside Islam, so I doubt that it's fundamentally dependent on Islam.

That being said, some people might think that I protect Islam with these arguments, but these are the exact same arguments I would use to protect Christianity, the difference is that the arguments against Islam are to a large extent more ridiculous than the ones against Christianity, which I suspect is because most people know more about Christianity than Islam.

Christians should respect Islam as a good example for America to copy in its own religion, since abortions, pre-marital sex, seductive dress and attitudes, and the homosexual push to remove "Don't tell kids about sex, and don't tolerate them asking about it."

In 1960, the great harlot of revelation 17, Feminism introduced the first steps towards a full blown matriarchy as is now present in the USA.

Islam, of course, is hated by the powers that have established this matriarchy because Islam is a patriarchy.

The middle ground between these two cultural phenomona was once Christianity, where men were wise enough to repress homosexuality and harlotry, maintaining marriages without divorce albeit for adultery, and keeping all sexual discussion and overt images out of the mainstream.

This had allowed children to grow up very cautious about engaging in sexual intimacies and using their adolescence as a period of discovery and development of their own self images where sex was totally secret between partners and never admitted to.

The Christians let this revolution win hands down by now.
They actually need to embrace the muslim community and join them in efforts to raise up Jesus again and revive their own church.

Moslems are also collecting themselves into their own separate communities where their schools and their values can be established without the presence of the corrupting social forces of the sexually promiacuous society that surrounds them.
Christians ought take note and do like wise.

Muslim surely can see that Christians are hated and openly attacked.
Muslims ought be proud that people like Bill Maher are afraid to treat them the way they talk about Christians.

Islam's only serious problem is intolerance for other religions. I think it would be fine with that single change. Intolerance is usually a negative position in almost everything.

Could you be a bit more specific with what tenants conflict with your values, and what values are being conflicted.

The basic tenants of Islam are the 5 pillars: Believing the Shahada (see sig), giving Zakat (charity), praying 5 times a day, fasting during Ramadan, and going to Hajj. That is the basics of Islam.

I don't really like the term moderate, I feel it gives legitimacy to the nutjobs and labels basic Islam as fundementalist. That's just a personal feeling. I myself do not consider myself "moderate". Just a Muslim. Not a fundie Muslim, but a regular Muslim.

That is fair enough, and I agree 100%.

Any belief system will have fundies, the problem is they are hard to eradicate because they always maintain a presence no matter how big or small.

It took only a few men to change the worlds view of Islam in a more negative way.

Islam teaches men to be respectful to women, and women to be respectful to men. To treat eachother right.

[4:19] "O You who believe! You are forbidden to inherit women against their will, and you should not treat them with harshness, that you may take away part of the Mahr (bridal-money given by the husband to his wife at time of marriage) you have given them, unless they commit open illegal sexual intercourse. And live with them honorably. If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike a thing and Allah brings through it a great deal of good."

Islam gave women many rights they didn't have for a long time, such as the right to own property.

Women and men are equal in Islam.

I read your post, and out of interest looked up domestic violence in Croatia. Apparently it is a big issue there.

What the man did to his wife is no way Islamic, and I hope she divorced him (a right women first recieved through Islam).

And this is where personal preference comes in.

Islam actually teaches to respect other faiths, we believe all three faiths are divine from Allah SWT. We believe Moses and Jesus, peace be upon them, were Prophets of Allah SWT, we hold Mary, peace be upon her, as one of the greatest women to ever live and recognize the virgin birth.

The problem is some Muslims (really, you can insert any religious group in place) ignore when the Quran says, there is no compulsion in religion. They feel like it is their responsibility to force Islam on people when Allah SWT tells them that we are all given a choice in what to believe.

To me my religion, and to you your religion.

I would just like to point out, the regime in Saudi Arabia are hated by many Muslims around the world. Many consider them a disgrace to our religion. The Prophet and Muslims of the past worked hard to remove oppressive regimes from Arabia, mainly the Quraish. Now we have an illegitimate family acting just like them. Only now they have oil and wealth.

I think many of the negative views of Islam does come from Saudi Arabia's regime? I would appreciate if anybody could confirm this.

    Ok, you asked for it!!

At one time, Islam was seen to the cultural "Mecca" of the world as it advanced the sciences and learning abroad. Conversely, today it seems to feed on the poor and uneducated as it recruits followers to spread the religion, make war against Israel and infidels at large, and spread a statist utopia via sharia law. The poverty and misery of its adherents are used as a catalyst for fundametnalism with little regard for life in general. After all, is death worse than a life of misery?

Of course, you can splain all day that Islam does not really teach what we see its adherants do on the six o'clock news are doing around the world, but it does not hold much water.

I agre that they need do as Jesus told them, turn the other cheek.

But their belief system re-instituted The Law which was exactly the opposite of what Jesus actually came to dtraighten out for the Jews.
The Muslims placed their poor people under the harsh Sharia which has had the effect of hiding the feminine side of humanity and accounts for the harsh male attitudes that bred the anger and intolerance you refer to.

I do not hate Islam. I am a Catholic. I think people of faith are under attack by more secular governments in the West. They are trying and are being quite successful at manipulating and inducing hatred between people of different faiths. They are also driving a wedge between peoples of various countries. I do not know if this is intentional but that is what is happening through more secularisation. They are trying to get Christians to hate Jews and Muslims. Muslims to hate Christians and Jews. Jews to hate Christian and Muslims. Then there is differnces even within these groups. Sunnis to hate Shiites, Catholics to hate Protestants, Orthodx Jews, to hate more Liberal Jews. I believe this has been manafactured by secularism or is the result of it.

Our problems with oppressive and at times violent radical islam accompanied the return from Saudi Arabia and other gulf states of the Egyptian migrant worker. So I would very much agree with you.

    Because Islam says:

"[9.30] And the Jews say: Uzair is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them; how they are turned away!"

Can't get more hateful than that.

If I said, "May God destroy Muslims," it would be classic hate speech at another message board I was banned from.

And then if you say that it is left up to Allah to do the destroying:

"[8.17] So you did not slay them, but it was Allah Who slew them, and you did not smite when you smote (the enemy), but it was Allah Who smote, and that He might confer upon the believers a good gift from Himself; surely Allah is Hearing, Knowing." "AL-ANFAL (SPOILS OF WAR, BOOTY)"

Then we always have the classic might makes right code duello, white cowboy hat dude always wins; verses in order of posting:

“[7.36] And (as for) those who reject Our
communications and turn away from them
haughtily these are the inmates of the fire they
    shall abide in it.
[7.37] Who is then more unjust than he who
forges a lie against Allah or rejects His
communications? (As for) those, their portion
of the Book shall reach them, until when Our
messengers come to them causing them to
die, they shall say: Where is that which you
used to call upon besides Allah? They would
say: They are gone away from us; and they
shall bear witness against themselves that
they were unbelievers” (posted August 30, 2001 10:35 PM)

    “[22.75] Allah chooses messengers from
    among the angels and from among the men;
surely Allah is Hearing, Seeing.” (Ibid, same post, right after that last one)

Which is why I asked this question in the introduction:

"Who exactly qualifies as a messenger?" (Ibid, same post)

Only to get the answer from this Moslem:

The Warning of the ex-slave: December 1997, South Movement: "'If the United Nations fails to respond to the Organization of the Islamic Conference (meeting in Tehran) then the Muslim world must act and defy these sanctions,' Farrakhan told an audience of union representatives in the Iraqi capital." (Louis Farrakhan) http://southmovement.alphalink.com.au/southnews/Dec12.htm

The messenger of the ex-slave: September, 16th, 2001: "Whenever a nation becomes great and powerful by God’s Permission, as America has; whenever a nation becomes the undisputed ruler of the world, as America has, by Allah’s Permission; when a nation becomes the only remaining superpower, having the power to destroy other nations and people by the tens of thousands and millions, as Allah has permitted America the power to do, and that nation then has a spiritual lapse and begins to sink into moral decline, the Qur’an teaches that Allah (God) raises a messenger, but he raises that messenger from among the poor and the abject to guide and to warn the great and the powerful.

Allah (God) knows that the powerful will not heed a warning coming from their ex-slave or from the weak or from the abject, so the Qur’an teaches that Allah (God) then seizes that nation with distress and affliction, that it might humble itself. For only in humility can the proud and the powerful heed the Guidance of God, which is mercy and grace from Himself. Allah (God) used this tragedy, hopefully, to bring a great nation to Himself." (Louis Farrakhan)

Warning and messenger verified by Million Man Marching Buddy: “In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01. White America and the Western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just ‘disappeared‘ as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring Black concerns.” http://www.cmaucc.org/EMRJeremiahWright2.pdf

There is also a succession controversy, government taxes of Nation as Muslims, and slaying of those not of the book. It is a basic human right to hate any government that must slay to maintain control:

"The blood of a Muslim who confesses that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that I am His Apostle, cannot be shed except in three cases: In Qisas for murder, a married person who commits illegal sexual intercourse and the one who reverts from Islam (apostate) and leaves the Muslims." http://www.cmje.org/religious-texts/hadith/bukhari/083-sbt.php#009.083.017

The worse thing about Islam is all the slaying and killing words, that requires a government entity, which does not exist, because without it it comes down to Indian counting "coo" and it looks like a war party, expecting others to accept it is not a war by Islam itself.

"Upon inquiring 'concerning the ground of the pretensions to make war upon nations who had done them no injury', the ambassador replied:

It was written in their Koran, that all nations which had not acknowledged the Prophet were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave; and that every mussulman who was slain in this warfare was sure to go to paradise. He said, also, that the man who was the first to board a vessel had one slave over and above his share, and that when they sprang to the deck of an enemy's ship, every sailor held a dagger in each hand and a third in his mouth; which usually struck such terror into the foe that they cried out for quarter at once. [12]" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Barbary_War

    Volume 4, Book 52, Number 191:

..."In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful (This letter is) from Muhammad, the slave of Allah, and His Apostle, to Heraculius, the Ruler of the Byzantine. Peace be upon the followers of guidance. Now then, I invite you to Islam (i.e. surrender to Allah), embrace Islam and you will be safe; embrace Islam and Allah will bestow on you a double reward. But if you reject this invitation of Islam, you shall be responsible for misguiding the peasants (i.e. your nation). O people of the Scriptures! Come to a word common to you and us and you, that we worship. None but Allah, and that we associate nothing in worship with Him; and that none of us shall take others as Lords besides Allah. Then if they turn away, say: Bear witness that we are (they who have surrendered (unto Him)..(3.64)"...

    Volume 4, Book 52, Number 191:

    Narrated Abdullah bin Abbas:
"He said, 'Do the noble or the poor follow him?' I replied, 'It is the poor who follow him.' He said, 'Are they increasing or decreasing (day by day)?' I replied,' They are increasing.' He said, 'Does anybody amongst those who embrace his (the Prophet's) Religion become displeased and then discard his Religion?'. I replied, 'No. ' He said, 'Does he break his promises? I replied, 'No, but we are now at truce with him and we are afraid that he may betray us." Abu Sufyan added, "Other than the last sentence, I could not say anything against him. Caesar then asked, 'Have you ever had a war with him?' I replied, 'Yes.' He said, 'What was the outcome of your battles with him?' I replied, 'The result was unstable; sometimes he was victorious and sometimes we.' He said, 'What does he order you to do?' I said, 'He tells us to worship Allah alone, and not to worship others along with Him, and to leave all that our fore-fathers used to worship. He orders us to pray, give in charity, be chaste, keep promises and return what is entrusted to us.'"

"5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him."
    http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/...13&version=KJV

"[4.142] Surely the hypocrites strive to deceive Allah, and He shall requite their deceit to them, and when they stand up to prayer they stand up sluggishly; they do it only to be seen of men and do not remember Allah save a little."
    http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/k/kora...V0&byte=114839

"[5.58] And when you call to prayer they make it a mockery and a joke; this is because they are a people who do not understand." http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/k/kora...V0&byte=158021

It is logical to question a potential member of a fifth column; and if they do not answer in a timely manner draw a conclusion.

It is not okay to hate Muslims, just what the individual Moslem believes in.

This is just one of the satanic verses that slipped in while mohammed dictated:

These words are an enigma if we consider Uzayr as Ezra, because no such opinion is found among the Jews, although Ezra was a subject of special appreciation (see Sanh. 21b; Yev. 86b)." The Encyclopaedia Judaica states these are excuses Muslim apologists came up with because of the statement being unfounded. It refers to the explanation H. Z. Hirschberg proposed based on what Ibn Hazm said, (Ibn Hazm was a 10th century Muslim Spanish apologist who never lived in Yemen, yet who claimed there was some group of Yemenite Jews who believed that 'Uzayr was indeed the son of Allah') that perhaps just the righteous of Yemen believed Ezra was the son of God.[6] However there is no evidence of this group's existence.[7] Further refuting this explanation, the Encyclopaedia Judaica entry on Ezra states that Yemenite Jews do not name their children Ezra, who, according to their accounts, cursed the Yemenite Jews to be poor because they would not move to Israel. The claim that Ezra is the son of God also contradicts the Book of Ezra, which is accepted by Jews, in which it is specifically stated that Ezra is the son of Seraiah.

Heribert Busse writes "The only explanation is the presumption that Muhammad, in the heat of debate, wanted to accuse the Jews of heretical doctrine on a par with the heresy of the Christian doctrine that teaches the divine nature of Jesus. In doing so, he could take advantage of the high esteem granted Ezra in Judaism."[8]

I hate Islam for blaspheming my Lord. Muslims are just misguided. Morally, I recognize that I have a lot in common with them. But there are also some serious differences. But regardless, my war isn't against Islam but my own flesh and blood, my own sins.

I now recognize the United States government's evil surpasses Islam's.
