I’m not dismissing the virus. We simply do not need to be acting paranoid the way we are. More people have recovered than died from Covid. That is a fact, plus the mortality rate has fallen in the US. We are not facing Armageddon, we will get out of this alive.
Really? Aside from the Spanish flu, name one. And provide some proof. Also, they don't have an accurate death count from that pandemic. It could have anywhere from 17 million to 50 million. Did you know that the exact same flu struck again in 2009-2010? We had a much better result due to the fact that it was taken seriously, we have a vaccine for it now, and because conditions in most of the world are much more sanitary than in 1918.

China employed an extreme lockdown program, that's how they got it under control. If we had better leadership, a lockdown and a mask mandate would have been federal, and instead of the spiking numbers we have now, we could be down in the teens for daily hospitalization. Instead, we have an ignoramous in the White House essentially telling people that if they support him, they won't wear masks, and claiming that those of us wearing them are doing so to spite him, personally. With Trump, everything is about him.

A federal lockdown would have been unconstitutional and the Democrat leaders would have been accusing the president of being an authoritarian dictator (a term they have already used under other circumstances). States are individually responsible for the health of their citizens. If Trump had strongly advised wearing masks, Democrats would protest by not wearing masks if the last 3.5 years of history in responses to whatever Trump says and does are any indication.
What kills people are facts not bar stool ramblings. Ask any ME. Cancer, CVD or organ failure are waiting for all of us. This virus will take out very few of us in comparison. Sorry to deflate the happy drama of the schadenfreude folk on here.
If you had it? and unless you had a test you do not know. Bad news for vaccine and possibly you is that antibodies do not seem to last long. If you had it in March you probably do not have them any more. ...and yes a lot of people, some of whom did not seem particularly ill are having continual problems, whether that is just fatigue, problems with their lungs or other issues affecting their quality of life. This virus in general kills more the older you are but that does not mean it is not going to leave life long illnesses to a lot of people who it had infected including infected very mildly - I was hearing asymptomatically the other day. There is though some new research which suggests some people are immune to it without even having come in contact with it as well as people having had one of the previous coronavirus's. It is T cells which are providing this protection and some people have protection against Covid 19 simply from having had a particular cold. It looks likely that a vaccine if it comes will be providing safety through T cells rather than antibodies. The saddest thing of course is the people, I notice not yourself but those who refuse to wear masks - possibly even sadder those who believe this is fake news. I had thought we had become a bit more intelligent but no, just a lot more egotistical!
You should have yourself tested for the COVID-19 antibodies. It is still not clear how effective those antibodies will be in preventing future infections.
Cancer, CVD and organ failure don't cause surges in hospitalizations like COVID and are not contagious. Hospitals are being overloaded with COVID patients which means there is less bed availability and treatments for other people with other conditions.

This took about 3 seconds: Hospital-Wide SARS-CoV-2 Antibody Screening in 3056 Staff in a Tertiary Center in Belgium I will be generous and give you that hospital workers, even though they are theoretically being exposed every day, are more likely to be taking precautions and to have PPE as opposed to the general population. But to get from 6.4% of the hospital staff in one of the hardest hit regions of Belgium to claiming that even 25% of the general population, let alone the 60-70% generally viewed as necessary to achieve "herd immunity," is absurdly unlikely.
Look you are going to contract this disease or not. If you contract it you are going to die or not and almost certainly not. The Netherlands did a very good job of balancing risk to herd immunity. Belgium did not. I wish to be clear here. People need to be exposed to get past this. Hiding only extends the problem. Be an adult and face the risks. Life cannot be lived without risk or it’s just a shell of itself. Pathetic!
