Your child is sleeping with a member of a different race. What do you do?

If you are not judging by the color of their skin, then why did a black kid have to be the example you used.

I have an Asian wife, and she's badass. Anyone who turns down a chance at a great relationship, just because of race, is a moron.

 

Don't have kids. But if I had them I would teach them to respect the differences from their very early childhood. And one can't just restrict all their life to a particular community as it narrows down one's way of thinking. So they better get used to the good and bad of everything different as well.

And no there's no question of feeling uneasy at the thought of my kid mingling (romantically, even) with another kid belonging to a different race/community. However, I would definitely have a problem with him/her 'sleeping' with someone before getting a stable source of income and considerable maturity.

 

I have been military all my life, both active duty and then as a Department of Army Civilian and I think it is in the civilian world where all the racial problems are. You walked into any PX on any fort or airbase and you will see quite a lot of interracial married couples. There just isn't the hang up on race in the military or in or around a military base. Then again we can discharge our racist and send them packing.

I would feel "uneasy" to say the least because my "child" was only 15 or 16. Even though they do experiment, I really don't think they are old enough to be having sex. If my child was an adult child, then I wouldn't care, as long as it was with a good person that treated my child well.

However, it reminds me of "perfect world" vs "reality" like when you consider attire.


In a perfect world.... me showing up with bluejeans and a T-shirt does not change any of my qualificaations to do my job. But if I don't show up in a suit and tie for the interview, noone is going to offer me a job. It's just reality. I may not agree with it, but I better understand that it occurs.

The same with mixed race relations.

there are some mixed races that aren't "frowned upon" by society as much as others.... but black white is definately one of the "frowned upon" types

In a perfect world, it doesn't really matter. If he's hard working, if he's good.... then it shouldn't matter.

but in reality, the world doesn't work that way. I don't have to agree with it, but I would be remissed if I didn't say explain the challenges they are going to face.

It's not "racist" to explain to my daughter, the issues of having a mixed race child and the problems that will give that child in the future. Life is already tough enough without putting them behind an 8ball.

 

The issue here... what if the unemployed bum happens to be a black? when you object to the relationship.... the go to accusation is "it's because you're racist"


I hate that I'm not allowed to object to a relationship or think my child can do better for fear of false victimhood.

As much as I hate racists who argue that some races of humanity are objectively more attractive than others by virtue of evolution (never mind that, since physical attraction originally evolved to filter for healthier and thus reproductively fitter mates, all the so-called racial differences would pass that test since they represent evolutionary adaptations), we all have weird subjective preferences when it comes to sexual aesthetics. That's more like picking favorite pieces of art or literature than making a priori judgements about people's intelligence or character based on inherited appearance, which is the core premise of racialism. I'm a white guy, complete with the blond hair and blue eyes, who has serious hots for black women. Some guys prefer Asians, some prefer blondes, and then you have guys like our own EgalitarianJay whose preferences have nothing to with "racially" diagnostic tastes (e.g. he'll go after black, Asian, and blonde ladies with equal zest). As long as you recognize those physical characteristics aren't correlated with personality, intellect, or even culture, I'd say you're good.

I haven't seen any racism in this thread... I'm allowed to not want my daughter to date a thug.... white or black. Just because someone is upset that I qualify their son as a thug.... is not my problem, and they can call me any name in the book they want.

the truth is... a white girl with a black baby is not treated the same by society as a whole. I said I didn't agree with it, but that doesn't change the fact that judgement still occurs. life is already tough so why would I be expected to want my daughter to have one more hurdle placed in front of her. I will object to ANY suitor that I feel isn't the best for my child.... even if they are black.

if a black kid was having sex with my minor daughter... I'd object no matter what. and just as hard as if a white kid did.


However, if she gets knocked up... it's "easier to recover" in the eyes of society with a white baby, than it is with a mixed baby. I'm sorry that offends you, but it's the truth. I told you, I don't agree with it... but to pretend it isn't reality, just to not offend someone..... no thanks. My child's welfare is my top priority, not your feelings.

I concern myself about whether that person is a good person.

I couldn't care less what race they are.

I would be far more concerned about that's person's religion and level of devotion to it. Religion will have far more to do with who they are than what race they happen to be.

as long as the person of the different race is of strong character and good person no problem what so ever
as a mater of fact I encourage interracial relationships inter breeding amongst races is good for the human species
I actually wish we would all interbreed amongst the races so eliminate the disguisable races if we all become the same race undisguisable from any other human race we wouldn't have racism

 

I disagree... I believe races would evolve to new races.... We are focused too much on OUR races.... but go to China.... they aren't simply "Asian" like we generalize them.... they have over 100 distinct races within China.....

combining black and white produces a very distinct difference than a white and hispanic, or black and Asian.... and a black/asian person would be in a different "race" than a black/white person...... and white/asian is a completely different race than the black/asian

 

one of the methods of evolution is interbreeding. I want everyone to be mutts. it will strengthen our genome. it is a scientific fact the more diversity in our genes strengthens the resilience of the species
