A civilian in coach class getting rebuffed by a flight attendant is probably a daily event. A soldier in uniform and all heck breaks loose!

I think it is wonderful so many civilians care about this and demand respect for our uniformed service members. From the perspective of a former uniformed service member, that was the least of my concern getting preferential treatment from a civilian. I wouldn't take it personally in other words if I was rebuffed for asking a flight attendant to hang up part of the uniform. It's not the Sergeant making a big deal out of it, it's the civilians who witnessed it...demanding preferential treatment. There is no obligation for preferential treatment, when it is made, it is appreciated no doubt...but there is no expectation of it.

I'm sure it wasn't personal, she might have been rude, but let's not make a Federal case out of it merely because this involves someone in the military and not a civilian.

Rude is rude, am I right?

We still have men and women in uniform and in harm's way overseas, they are a greater concern than a Sergeant's wrinkled jacket on a domestic commercial flight, quite frankly.

Because there are way too many rude people, and our military deserve respect. The flight attendant was rude and nasty about it, he deserves better. I am sick to death of settling for mediocrity when it comes to service

He was going to an interview, and it was more than likely a one day flight not requiring luggage

Yes it would matter, civilians and military carry a different decorum. He wore the suit because he was going to an interview, and I would guess it was a same day flight and did not need to carry luggage

Perhaps it's guilt, because less than 1% of the population accepted the responsibility to serve after 9/11.

A small fraction of our society at large volunteers for military service...perhaps it is guilt or correlating the notion that every single man and woman in uniform must be some battle hardened, fresh off the front line, war weary person.

That's not necessarily the case; only about 1 in 10 will ever see combat. There are of course other sacrifices and commitments that service entails apart from what most civilians go through. Nevertheless, a simple respect for the uniformed is all that is ever obligated or expected. If a person enlists for the accolades they are doing so for the wrong reason, eventually they are going to get disappointed. I served during a time not too long after when morale was at an all time low post-Vietnam. You were lucky to get a "thanks for your service." Lucky to get that at all. Now, all too often folks will bend over backwards for those in uniform....it's wonderful, it is. I am thankful our current troops are overwhelmingly supported...but there is no obligation beyond a simple respect for the person who volunteered to serve and who wears the uniform with pride.

Anyway, I'm about talked out with this topic.

You all may have the final words and opinions. Thank you for your time.

I wonder why a certain person didnt attack herk for saying pretty much the same thing i did? Anh. I know why.

FOR THE LAST TIME: if he hadnt been wearing his UNIFORM this would never have been news.

If SOMEONE refuses to see it then they cant be helped. Sad. ;)

The fact that you need to ask the question of the difference between civilian attire as opposed military attire is what separates a liberal from a conservative. Conservatives hold our military in the highest regard, and we honor that uniform, you liberals don't. This thread is full of excuses like yours, and isn't it amazing, they are all liberals

The first flight attendant should lose her job. And probably will unless the union can save her. It's not the fact she refused, it's the fact she was surly about it. Grounds for dismissal from most airlines.

You call disagreeing with your opinion "attacking you"? Wow, you're right, those that can't see it, they can't be helped.

She's in public relations. If she is not a people person, why is she in that job? She is an embarrassment to the airlines and a liability. They may lose customers because of her. She needs to go...

Do YOU promise to fight to the death in your job in exchange for pay, health care, and education benefits. Are you also denigrating the police and firemen? Would YOU do those jobs?

Or just looking for a reason to have a veteran entitlement syndrome hissy fit. Reeks of attention seeking behavior either way.

"...ugly, snarly..."? Must have been a flight full of military worshippers! And, sorry, but your second-hand anecdotes don't mean a thing.

Everyone is entitled to get pissy-especially doing a stressful and thankless job as an airborne waitress, daily having to deal with hundreds of whiny, demanding and often obnoxious passengers with no opportunity to escape them. You couldn't pay me enough, frankly. My neighbour was a stewardess on the long-defunct Laker Airways and some of her stories would make you shudder. If you don't have the patience of a saint or the disposition of an emotionless robot...

And you know what my politics are, how, exactly? Because I don't worship the military and anyone in a uniform that labels me as a liberal?

Yes, because worshipping slimy politicians is so much more commendable than respecting the military.

Are you suggesting you're a conservative, SS?

Which job did you do? Personally I appreciate people who do dangerous jobs for the good of the people. They are jobs where obviously there is little appreciation and now no respect. If you had one of those jobs, "thank you," but you made the military sound like mercenaries. They could get much safer and easier jobs, but they want to serve. It is admirable, in my opinion.
