Nevermind. Researched the discussion for some context. Apologies for interrupting.

What comment ? You provided no evidence that proves your claim " all liberals despise the military" true.

Ron Paul is not down with our current foreign policy and there are Conservatives (real ones) such as myself who think our foreign policy is misdirected.

Sure there is some liberals who "despise" the military but the fact of the matter is the vast majority do not.

    Your spouting nonsense.

One more time..... it doesn't MATTER if a passenger was wearing a uniform, suit, jammies, swimming trunks - ALL passengers should be treated w/respect. And just where was he asking for 'special treatment' when all he asked was to have his jacket hung up?

And you totally ignore the fact that other passengers heard her snotty, ugly reply/attitude towards him. One of the men passengers said her answer/attitude towards the soldier 'appalled' him. And if the soldier was so pist off about not receiving the 'special treatment' he tho't he should have, why didn't he go to the hdqtrs of the airline and complain? HE DIDN'T, did he?

If you can't understand that if you take on a job working w/the public, you are required to have a pleasant, decent attitude towards all. If you're going to have a snarly, ugly attitude towards someone just b/c they ask you a simple question, then you're not mature enuf to have that job........

Wow, all that just for asking if it was possible to hang his jacket. This has been taken to a level by liberals rewriting the story.

In the context of the conversation between the Sergeant and flight attendant, this is asked and answered.

    Q. Can you hang up my jacket for me, I don't want it to get wrinkled
    A. The clothes closet is for passengers flying 1st class only.

Some here believe, that because this is a uniformed member of the armed forces, they should be entitled to use the clothes closet regardless of whether they are flying 1st class or not. They deserve special treatment and the fact the flight attendant didn't give them special treatment, this translates to a personal disdain for the military on behalf of the flight attendant.

It the grand scheme of things, it's really not that big of a deal is it?

Maybe a wrinkle or two on his Class A jacket if he stows it in the overhead compartment. He was not in an official capacity while wearing it, he wears it to civilian job interviews.

Should she have accommodated him and allowed him to use the clothes closet otherwise reserved for passengers flying 1st class, merely because he's in the service?

    That's really the question here.

Some argue, yes he deserves better service above and beyond a civilian passenger...some argue he does not.

If you can point to where I said "all" liberals, please do. It is a fact that any denigration is done by liberals, and liberals alone, evident by the posts on this thread

You left out the part of how she reacted according to those in first class. That is my point of the thread

    What was her reaction?
She told him the clothes closet was reserved for 1st class passengers.

The passengers in 1st class thought that she should tell him there's no room instead of reciting the airline policy.

I just don't see it as a big deal. There is no obligation by anyone to buy a soldier a meal or say thanks to him or her. None. If they want to give up their seat or buy them lunch...great, it's nice people do that...but there's no obligation.

I've walked through foreign airports in uniform and been called "baby killer" ...Shannon airport in Ireland to be specific. They had organized protests regarding the U.S. military using the airport as a refueling stop for trans-Atlantic flights...so on occasion the protesters would call American troops in transit "baby killers" or something along those lines. You just quietly go on and don't eyeball them, you don't react. Didn't happen alot, but it did happen.

You won't hear that in the United States. Most are either very nice or indifferent about it. I'm fine with indifference myself...no one in uniform should demand better service because of it. They certainly don't deseve to be insulted, but indifference is really not a big deal.

The flight attendant was indifferent to the fact this Sergeant was in the service, she cited airline policy only. Only passengers flying 1st class can use the clothes closet. Let's not confuse indifference with actual disdain of the armed services.

You do not say "some liberals" you say " it is liberals who despise the military".

Your whole post is a fallacious slam against liberals in general. Stop trying to backtrack out of what you know to be true.

I'm sure this has been covered already in this lengthy thread, but the soldier himself never complained or said a word.

This was all brought to light by another passenger.

That passenger is the one complaining.

Blaming the soldier for this is stupid.

And that's it in a nutshell - it was her reaction towards him, her ugly attitude, which one passenger said 'appalled' him.......

Not me and I don't recall anyone else here thinking he should have received 'special treatment' b/c he's a soldier and I'm sure he didn't think so either, since he refused the offer of 1st class seat. If anyone thinks they should receive 'special treatment' - wouldn't they take the 1st class seat offered to them b/c they think they deserve 'special treatment'? Of course they would.....

In case you missed it... If it was that big a deal to him, he should've made the proper arrangements. It obviously wasn't, as the soldier (and family, apparently) didn't comment when sought after. The passenger, and those advancing this story, are the ones trying to make this a bigger deal than necessary. As much as it pains to say (as it would benefit me directly) military service isn't a skeleton key for every perk imagineable... even things that are perceived to be minor. He took it in stride... why can't you?

I can't think of a valid reason why a member of the WV ANG would wear his Class A uniform, and all the accoutrements, on a CONUS to CONUS flight for civilian job interviews other than wanting the attention the uniform would attract. Recruiting detail, perhaps funeral detail and other official business, yes you wear the full service dress uniform on a commercial flight. Anything else, the wise military traveler wears civvies and avoids attracting unnecessary attention to themselves.

"Thanks for your service" x 100

Just about any airport you'll hear it while in uniform and in a civilian environment. Some folks get off on all that. Upgrading to business class or if you get really lucky, upgrading to 1st class...all because you're in uniform.

Stow the Class As next time and wear civvies, it's more comfortable and you don't look a hot mess with beard stubble and wrinkles after a long flight walking around after your arrival and still in uniform.

Where does that leave us liberals who served in the military? We hate ourselves?

Conservative logic...don't look for it. You won't find any.

I stand corrected, I would have thought funeral detail warranted the service dress uniform...accompanying a fallen troop on a commercial flight. I don't keep up with the 670-1, I know back in the day traveling in Class As was fairly common, but the option for civvies was always there also.

He would of , should of, could of.... is not the point.

All the man did was ask to have his jacket hung. The ugly, snarly attendant refused, other passengers heard her, offered him their 1st class seat, he declined their offer and he went back to his seat w/o any complaints.....

Sorry brother, I should have been more clear. The funeral detail was for a retired veteran.

No. All this because of his UNIFORM. This wouldn't even have been in the news if he hadn't been wearing it. Someone already posted that stewardess can be (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)y. Are you ever going to answer my question? Had he been in a suit would this matter?

Instead of being snarky why don't you read his entire reply. Its reasonable and makes perfect sense.

We get it. Y'all are mad at her attitude but it still does NOT negate the facts. She was doing her job.. .pissy about it.. .but still doing it. You keep harping about service. Yahoo they are there to serve customers but they also have rules to follow. Why you don't understand that is clear. Y'all want to make an issue where there is none. How many other people have had bad experiences with an airline? Thousands. My goodness.. .all this squawking for something that happens everyday. Should servers try to curb their tongues? Yes. Its just a fact of life that we will encounter negative servers in our life. Deal with it or cry. That's our choice. He didn't cry. Its a good thing all these computer warriors are doing it for him. :)

Ok, I'm still out of touch with the policy now in terms of what is appropriate or approved to wear off base, commercial flights CONUS/OCONUS etc.; each service branch might be different. I'm sure this Sergeant would be approved to wear the Class A, I just don't know why he did if it wasn't specifically part of a detail. Going through the TSA metal detectors would take longer with all those devices, occupation badges, etc.

Why i sure did read his entire reply and what I read was the soldier 'would of, should of, could of'......

Yes, I'm sure that 1,000's of passengers have had bad experiences w/FA's and they should be reported when it's an ugly attitude they have to deal with... just like any other business - restaurants (I had my experience w/one of my favorite's and a waiter w/a (*)(*)(*)(*)ty attitude and he was fired), banks, retail, etc.... treat the customer/passengers nicely b/c their business is paying your salary.

And what the passenger/customer is wearing is beside the point.....

I think your assessment was correct. He is applying for jobs and thinks it will help. I dont fault him for it. ..whatever it takes. :)
