Like I already said, Trump bad, Cuomo good. Stick with that, no one will notice your hypocrisy.

The States will each decide how and when to reopen.

Not Trump. He has no authority in this.

I don't trust the dooms-dayers. Or people who beat back any optimism. I've been on the receiving end of this. That anyone who suggests that this could be over by end of month or that it may not turn out to be as bad as was thought is just a big fat stupid jerk who wants people to die. They seem to me to have an agenda, which may be:

    a. that this is more about bringing down the U.S. and especially destroying Trump than it is about the sick or
    b. through the generosity of our government, some people expect to be more financially comfortable not working than they were working, so secretly don't particularly want it to end or
    c. some, especially the young, may be simply enjoying the drama

Massive unemployment will be far more deadly than the CCP/DP Chinese Coronavirus.
    Hence the economic shutdown.

IMO, it would be better for Trump to let progressive governors keep their populations locked up until the next election, but Trump does have the power to use the DOJ to block every kind of interference with interstate commerce.

Daily cases peaked a week or two ago at 30,000 per day. But that was only with extreme quarantine measures. And we are still adding 25,000 cases per day. If we were to stop these measures the daily cases would hit 100,000.

I suppose there are some people in those categories, but I don't think all the world's leaders & the world's leading medical/pandemic experts are in some sort of conspiracy to destroy the planet's economy. In the US, we literally just hit peak deaths/day a couple of days ago, and our daily new cases per day is still on the rise. I think we have an overabundance of evidence that left unchecked, this thing causes extreme chaos.

I want us to open up two weeks ago. Do I think we should? No. Am I happy about it? No, I'm pretty ticked-off, actually. Anyone celebrating this is a nut job and should be discounted. Put those loons on ignore. I have.

We should be celebrating that we, in this country, mostly avoided a catastrophe. Let's not ruin it by opening up too early.

Try trusting the experts ... the scientists, epidemiologists, infectious disease experts, etc. None are saying it's safe to go back to business as usual. All are telling us that such an action would cost tens of thousands of lives.

Trump thinks this is about ruining his re-election chances. He thinks everything is about him. He's willing to risk lives in order to get the economy back on track, because the economy is the only card he has to play.

He could have taken the high road early on. He could have listened to the experts (what was left of them after Bolton's hatchet job two years ago on our pandemic response team). He could have put experts together and had them implement the sensible actions detailed in the NSC's pandemic playbook from 2016, instead of tossing it aside because it came from the Obama administration. He could have taken this seriously from the beginning instead of downplaying the danger we were already in by the end of January.

But his giant, fragile ego pushed him in the wrong direction as usual, and now here we are, in the middle of the worst crisis we've faced in many years, with an incompetent fool at the helm.

LOL some people make it "all about him" by constantly bringing him up.

It just seems like, for people who genuinely care about our country and each other, if someone says "I think this will actually level off soon," that person, if they are afraid might say something like "I'm afraid you could be wrong, but let's hope you are right." Instead of "How DARE you suggest that things might be ok soon!!!!" That's what I'm hearing from some folks. And I never trust it. When someone insists that things are awful and will be for a long time, even given evidence to the contrary, there is a reason. And the reason isn't well wishes.

But then it will just spread in the smaller cities. This virus is everywhere. You open one place up, it will then spread there.

The Governors will consult with the scientists and doctors and then decide when to open up the economy.

    not one second sooner.

    Trump, has no say.

But we have a bunch of covid cases all over the US. It will continue to spread outside New York. If we don't quarantine, the rest of the country becomes New York in a few weeks.

    Bottom Line:

Things won't be "back to normal" until we have a vaccine.

That could take us into Fall/Winter 202l-2022.

People need to get ready to deal with that (very REAL) possibility.

Trump = It is all the WHO's Fault.

I get the sentiment, but I do think there is a rush within some reasonable boundaries.

We have not been successful with the requirements for being open. There should be a MAJOR rush on that.

Perhaps the most significant requirement is that we have adequate testing.

Today, tests are becoming LESS AVAILABLE!!! We're actually falling behind in the number available and in the turnaround on communicating results.

Also, we need our hospitals to be fully functional. Today, COVID among hospital staff is becoming significant as we fail to protect them and as hospitals get overloaded. My bet is that if we go back to work, we should be wearing good masks. With our inability to protect hospital staff, what's the chance we can protect ourselves at work??

Also, we need to better be able to treat COVID. A couple days ago Brazil stopped its broad scientific testing of Trump's favorite drug, because it was causing too many heart attack deaths. And, that is a known side affect of Chloroquine varients.

    Good luck to North Dakota.

I hope medical science is working on the other 20+ possible treatments that Trump DOESN'T brag about.

For me, this all means waiting. BUT, our government isn't supposed to be sitting on its ASS like it is today if it really wants our economy to recover anytime soon.

    Exactly.

In any event, about 20%+ of Pre-Lockdown Jobs may never come back.

Very sad if they "rush things" and it leads to many more (unnecessary) deaths.

Trump has made himself almost fully irrelevant.

The idea that he can order states to open up is just plain silly. Restarting the economy will not be straight forward. Opening Wyoming won't be the same as opening CA or any other real economic center.

Plus, the requirements for opening are not being provided equally - nor will they be. Today masks, other PPE, tests, etc., are LESS availale than ever. We even have FEMA stealing them.

If Trump actually wanted America to reopen, he would start to work on providing the requirements for that. And, he is not.

This says we lost 2,300 today.

I think they're on GMT, though. Still, if that's true, that's a new peak for us.

Of course they do, he's the President of the U.S. And we're in a national crisis.

You're seeing that reaction because, early on, people who were warning about this were being made fun of and STILL there are plenty of far right people who think this is some conspiracy to take down Trump. Or some conspiracy to overinflate deaths (again, to take down Trump). As if the entire world isn't going through this.
