There is no comparison between Biden’s many negatives and the statistical tie in the presidential polls. Large numbers of Americans realize that Biden is far worst than inadequate. He is a failure on virtually all levels and should have the wisdom and decency to retire. His candidacy for a second term is pure selfishness.

Trump is profoundly flawed. He too is too selfish to step down. His giant ego has ruined his image. He should step down for the good of the country. We need someone who can really send Biden packing. This race should be like 1980 when Reagan crushed Carter.

Biden has made Carter look good. He is the worst of all presidents.

There will only be two people on the ballot. Trump vs ? (My guess is RFK, Jr. brought back into the fold).
I doubt Biden will be on it, and if he is and he wins, no one will believe in our elections anymore!
And BTW, the campaign has not started yet in the sense that policy is not front and center. Currently it is mostly only the "I like, I hate" players.

The campaign started over a year ago. Those of you who think Trump is the best choice for president are already trying to lump those us, who have serious reservations about him, as “never Trumpers.” I am not in the Bush, Chaney and Kissinger crowd. I lost faith in Trump because of his conduct after the 2020 election results were final. He should have enough judgment to have quit the nonsense, stop grousing and start gearing up for 2024.

I will vote for Trump in the 2024 general election if I have to do it. I just wish that we could find a qualified candidate who would know when to watch what he or she says and leave their ego at the door at the appropriate times.

We are seeing more and more polls where Trump is winning, even taking into account the margin of error. Almost no polls even show Biden ahead at all.

If times were normal, say 20 years ago, Biden would so far behind in the polls that he would have withdrawn by now. Biden is a wall to wall disaster, but he hangs on because he’s a Democrat.

Trump is like Joe and Mary Latte'. He's a civilian and has a sense of right and wrong and knows when he and the people are getting hosed. That is a lot of his appeal.

Similar numbers to those of Biden. Why do we insist on choosing between these two? Have we learned no lessons? Is there even a modicum of common sense within the electorate? Does anyone else see the insanity of our electoral system?

I live in fly over country (I can see and hear the airplanes overhead) and I don't know anyone that would fit your description. Perhaps elsewhere in fly over country.

I see the insanity of today’s primary system and agree with you. If Gallup is to be believed, Republicans make up 27% of the electorate, democrats, an identical 27% today. So, we’re letting 27% of all Americans choose one candidate, the other 27% chooses the other candidate. They’ve come up with one candidate, Biden viewed negatively or unfavorably by 55% of all Americans going against another candidate, Trump, also viewed negatively or unfavorably by 55.4% of all Americans.

    https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/other/FavorabilityRatingsPoliticalLeaders.html

You also have 57% of all Americans who don’t want Biden to run again vs. the other candidate, Trump which 55% of all Americans don’t want to run again either. Questions 14 and 15.

    https://d3nkl3psvxxpe9.cloudfront.net/documents/econTabReport_g1diQvj.pdf

If this is the best both major parties can come up with as their candidates, that let’s me know the current primary system is useless. It needs to be thrown out the window onto the trash heap of history. It shows that both major parties are totally bankrupt of decent, experienced, good candidates if these two dregs from the bottom of the barrel is the best of both major parties. Perhaps they decided to run their worst, awful, disliked, unwanted by most Americans candidates. That is the only conclusion I can come up with. These two choices not only show the insanity of the current system, it shows both major parties are in the asinine level when it comes to their choosing of their candidates. At least to most Americans.

The GOP-run House is the only current example of national Republican governance in Washington.

They have been as deft as a slapstick comedy routine, but far, far more ineffectual, childish, nuttier, and nastier.

    OGC.gif
Can a whiny, old Republican who lost the 2020 presidential election (managing to lose the House and Senate's GOP control in a single term) and having endorsed losers aplenty in 2022, pull out of his elective death spiral in 2024 by dint of the twice-impeached reject burnishing his credentials with 91 felony criminal charges?

Meanwhile, the President, while hardly a show-biz whiz-bang, presides over low unemployment, rising income, a significant drop in global inflation, including gasoline prices, and a restoration of the nation's international prestige and leadership.

The problem with our system is that we choose individuals i.e. fame or pretty faces or pretty words. We are duped by politicians. At least the parliamentary system used by the rest of the democracies has voters choose a party and let the party (which is closer to the candidates) handle the HR. Neither Trump nor Biden would have gained power under the other system in my view.

As a practical matter, it appears that the American electorate will be choosing between two elderly White guys, one demonstrably still rational and functioning, the other deluded in imagining that he won in 2020, now facing 91 felony criminal indictments, and hellbent upon his conspiracy-based personal vendettas.

    It's a lousy choice, but it's a choice.

Under our old primary system, pre-1976 Trump definitely wouldn’t have gained the republican nomination in 2016, thus Trump wouldn’t ever have been president and wouldn’t even be considered for 2024. I think Biden under the old system of choosing candidates would have been the likely candidate for the Democrats in 2020. But under the old system, given Biden very poor approval numbers, his high unfavorable, he would have been challenged by some very prominent democrats for the 2024 nomination. Probably he would have withdrawn like LBJ did for 1968, like Truman did for 1952.

But it isn’t the only choice. There are other options, such as not voting, refusing to choose between them or voting third party against both. Not voting in 2016 was a good option to many who disliked both major party candidates back then. Voter turnout was 54% using VAP, compare that to 2020 when voter turnout was 62%. Then there is the option of voting against both by casting a ballot for a third-party candidate. 6% did so in 2016 compared to just 1.7% in 2020.

Almost all polling done so far has given only two choices, Trump or Biden. But here’s a poll that gave 4 choices. Question 5 below the narrative. It showed Biden 36%, Trump 35%, RFK Jr. 19% West 6%, other 1%. That’s 26% of all Americans stating they’ll vote for someone other than Biden or Trump if the rematch occurs which seems guaranteed. Probably worse is how independents, the less to non-partisans, the non-affiliated are planning on voting. This is before the no labels party comes up with their candidates. Independents only RFK Jr.33%, Trump 30%, Biden 27%, West 8%.

This I think show the dissatisfaction with the choices the two major parties are offering. You also have this - Many voters are weary about a Biden-Trump rematch in 2024. Third parties hope they can fill the gap

Biden's record in the Senate and as VP was not good. The record of the entire congress is not good during my entire lifetime. People just liked him - a poor reason to give someone political power. It is at the base of the trouble with our electoral system. Our elections are truly popularity contests.

I was not particularly enamored of Clinton in 2016, but would have regretted not voting. No two undesirable presidential candidates are ever equal. Her ability to accept losing and not attacking democracy and attempting to disenfranchise millions of Americans after she lost confirms her superiority to Trump.

Realistically, I expect that either Biden or Trump will be elected in 2024. Biden, however wanting, is far preferable. Just about anyone running against a twice-impeached loser in pathological denial facing 91 felony charges would be.

My crystal ball says Haley vs. Newsom. Any side that runs Trump or Biden will lose.

Yes, it's still early. Presidents always have the power to take actions that benefit and please Americans. Never underestimate the ability of savvy experienced politicians to do whatever is necessary to win elections.

I can see that in 2028. Trump is in unless DoJ "eliminates" him from a grassy knoll somewhere.
Also Vivek has a bright future somewhere. Expect him to be competitive in the '28 primary.
Do you live in California? The national view is much more favorable to Newsom than ground zero.

Biden's disapproval is also at 56% too.
The polling numbers are a big deal. As Ann Coulter has pointed out, poll consistently distort numbers in favor of a democrat. HRC had a 98.5% likelihood of winning in 2016. What does it mean that Trump, who was losing in the polls, now even has the establishment media admitting he is winning?
I imagine they'll just steal the election for Biden again.

Prime Minister Schumer, Prime Minister McConnell. Well, one could say they'd be more effective than the present contenders, though that may be a bad thing from the perspective of the other side of the aisle.
