Let me give you an example. Finland is consistently near the top in the world in terms of Quality of Life surveys. All three of its main political parties would be considered left-of-centre in the US. Does that not mean that Finland is 'leftist'. Now apply your conclusions above to that country. Shaky, aren't they?

I'm referring to the American left.

The political culture of every country is unique. So it is with both left and right in America. Both are coalitions of interest groups.

The American left is a coalition that includes, among others, environmentalists, private sector labor unions, public sector labor unions, racial and ethnic multicultural separate identity groups, social justice groups, gun control groups, portions of Big Business, the university community, Big Foundations, homeless advocates, war on poverty groups, many seniors groups, child advocates, people who don't want to work, people who can't work, public school teachers, groups that are anti-war when it is to their political advantage, the indolent, the blind, the lame and the mentally ill, et al.

 

It's the highest-rated talk show? Ye gods! I was aware that it was popular (for whatever reason), but it truly is scary that so many would actually want to listen to his ignorant and uninformed 'facts' and see them as truth.
Then again I'm guessing a good proportion of his audience is the casual, intelligent listener who enjoys a good laugh at his expense-in the same way that Palin appeals like the impossible to look away from train-wreck. At least I would hope so!

You are mistaken. Limbaugh has a dedicated audience of about twenty million listeners five days per week. He can mobilize them. That power gives him influence sufficient to prevent any conservative politician from crossing him.

 

George III was mentally ill. Madness also runs in the bunch of Germans you call the Royal Family.

There is a spectrum of conservative thought in America. It would not hurt to know your enemies.

 

I agree-and Prince Philip is Greek. I don't consider Battenburg/Saxe-Coburg/Gotha remotely English-and they aren't 'my' royal family.

 

I'm not sure what this actually demonstrates; the gullibility of that audience or, perhaps more probably, their sheer stupidity?

 

More than anything else, Limbaugh represents a cultural force. The American right is the last political sanctuary of White Americans. A significant majority of Whites are conservative. In contrast most Black Americans are leftists. Hispanics tend more to the left at this point in time.

 

If, as you intimate, Limbaugh is representative of the American conservative it doesn't speak very highly of that group.

After the last civil war, they expanded the power of the Federal government and forced a central bank down our throat. What makes you think that the "liberals" will lose?

 

Both sides will lose. The will be economic and political collapse. It wouldn't be like prior experience. It would be a free for all like the 30 years war in the 1600s in Germany. Foreign powers would probably intervene. There's no telling how it would turn out. But in the end America would be a much poorer country without much of a manufacturing base. Such countries are too poor to impose environmental, social justice and regulatory obligations on the general public. But the objective of preventing the left from imposing its agenda on the country will reach fruition.

 

More than anything else, Limbaugh is a divisive force. Why do we have to be opposed based one black and white, or liberal and conservative?

Do we not share more common interests than where we oppose?

 

That scenario seems to assume that the power in America all exists solely in America and that there is no global interest involved in the US.

I think we are far more likely to see a revolt against the influence of suprantional interests infesting our national government than to see a civil war based on a false dichotomy such as the false choice "liberal vs. conservative" propaganda being promoted by the corporate media.

 

That seems like quite a diverse group to be labeled as "the left" and supposed to have a unified ideology, no? Does it make sense to really believe that the groups you point to are all on board with some super leftist agenda?

Also, I'm curious to know what you would classify as "the right"...
