It probably just makes you "you".

I have been thinking about the way politics used to be - I don't know about your country - but I am old enough to remember when politics was not so black and white. I remember when even though I was on the left, I shared many points of view with my more conservative counterparts.

In those days, it was easy to identify that "the other side" of politics was interested in doing the best thing for the community - they just had a different idea of how it could be done.

now - its not so easy to see that that is what politics is about.

its about one upmanship, put downs, and belittling the other.

its also increasingly about demonising them.

I'm only 34. I don't remember it being any different.

I think at the very least the one upsmanship and demonizing serves to keep us divided and very likely developed by design.

Government is a tool. As a screwdriver is designed to drive screws, it can also be misused and provide still provide utility to the user. There is a proper use for government. It is necessary. Just as a screwdriver can be misused to cause harm, so can the government.

Our problem is greater than the capacity of government to be used for harm, though. The corruption of the US government by a supranational oligarchy directly opposes the intended purpose of the US government, which is to promote and protect the interests of the nation and the people that it represents. In the US, the terms "liberal" and "conservative" have been bastardized to indicate an allegiance to either the Democratic or Republican parties respectively. It is assumed that we are all in support of one or the other, and then the debate is framed to determine which one is worse in order to get people to chose one side based on how much they disagree with the other.

The overwhelming majority of Americans support liberty and freedom and justice. Adhering to the policies of either of the corporate parties forces us to unnaturally support positions that are hypocritical of those values.

    excellent analysis.

we seem to forget that democratically elected governments are there to serve our interests, and it seems sometimes they do too.

it is easy for them to represent big business, and those with the greatest amount of dollar votes - when their being elected depends on this.

It isn't even just easy for them to do so, but impossible for them not to do so.

He knows what he’s doing. He’s taking advantage of the dumb asses who listen to him; they probably take everything he says at face value. “Obama is killing Christians who are fighting Muslims;” that’s the kind of bull(*)(*)(*)(*) that can be expected from a deceitful (*)(*)(*)(*) like Limbaugh.

    Sudan's shadowy Arab militias

    JANJAWEED

More than one million people have fled Sudan's Darfur region, the victims of what UN officials have described as an "ethnic cleansing" campaign by a group of Arab militiamen. Many thousands have been killed and human rights groups say there has been a systematic campaign of rape, intended to humiliate and punish non-Arab groups.

The Janjaweed have attacked black Africans from the Fur, Massaleet and Zagawa ethnic groups with a ruthlessness that has not been seen in the region for some time, report aid agencies and the refugees themselves. They have killed, raped, maimed, looted and burned down tens of thousands of village homes, displacing hundreds of thousands of people.

The BBC's Alfred Taban in Khartoum says the number of the Janjaweed is reported to be very small, maybe a few thousand, but they are well armed with automatic weapons and ride well-fed horses and camels. Correspondents say that many of the men fighting with the Janjaweed received military training in Libya in the 1980s, when Muammar Gaddafi set up an "Islamic Legion" of mercenaries recruited from across north and west Africa.

    SOUTH SUDAN MILITIAS

One way of Khartoum’s attempts to undermine South Sudan nation is the use of proxy militia forces to wage wars in the South. Some of these militias are already propped up in the Upper Nile region, particularly in Jongolei, Unity and Upper Nile States. The activities of these militias in the region already caused hundreds of death, displacement of populations, and humanitarian catastrophe.

There are certain factors related to these militia, which make them deadly and a force to be reckoned with. Their activities can have a long term implications on the survival of South Sudan. Two of the militia groups are led by high ranking military officers who have extensive experience in combat operations. Major Gen. Peter Gadet, who is currently leading the militia in Unity State is arguably among the most skillful fighters in South Sudan. Gadet spent more than a decade leading a parallel war of his own in Unity State, where he constantly switched allegiances between the SPLA and the Khartoum’s armed forces. During the war, he was single handedly responsible for the disruptions of oil productions in the region. The death of the two senior founders of SPLM/A, Kerubino Kwanyin Bol and William Nyuon are linked to him.

All of these militias are operating under their tribal areas, where loyalties are very high, which boost the moral as well as serve as recruiting grounds. This also means that the militias will survive longer in these areas. In the long run, the militias will be able to disrupt the lifeline of South Sudan economy, the oil industry, since most of their activities are centered in oil producing areas. This will result into South facing challenges in drilling new oil fields, building its own refineries, or even construct oil transportation route Southwards, as the new nation intends to target East African markets and ports for a new line of exports. Such will create an ideal situation for the regime in Khartoum to rig big benefits from South Sudan oil output, because Khartoum will continue to refine and transport the oil produce in the South, and at a whim, gives South Sudan share of its revenues what Khartoum deems is necessary, perhaps the lowest percentage ever. People in Khartoum will have their work cut out for them cheaply, with the mere activities of few sponsored tribal militias.

The Far Left has far more in common with the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan than Conservatives do (Mainly the Democrat Party)

Everyone in Darfur is black and Muslim..

The Janjaweed are herders.. the Darfurians are farmers..

Because of drought in the north and the lack of pasture the herders began moving their herds to Darfur earlier and earlier every year..

The fight is over water resources..

Darfur sits on a HUGE aquifer of fossil water.. That's why the Arabs and some Europeans are digging wells.

The Saudis have dug 90 wells and built 14 clinics.

I'm not following you ... what does this have to do with the far left?

also - wrt anti semitism - studies have shown that historically this is more associated with conservatism ... in fact - often "the left" and "liberals" were Jewish - so it was also often political prejudice as well.

You obviously understand very little about history, politics and psychology.

Basically yes Cass, I think he is that stupid and if he was to reply to you he'd probably defend himself by claiming you are misrepresenting what he said and taking it out of context!

Sigh, I can see you are stuck in a rut:

This is where i demonstrated to you the visible ethnic divide in Darfur and that your notion that the Arabs and some Europeans are digging wells etc. is misleading.

Liberal complaints about Limbaugh are simply requests for censorship. I have never listen to a Limbaugh show. I've picked up squawks of him while station searching on long trips. Just like MSNBC, Limbaugh, or Beck. You don't like what any or all have to say, DON'T LISTEN. I don't listen to any of those I've named. I've missed nothing by not listening.

To listen and then complain about what was said proves that somebody is incredibly stupid.

LOL!!! That's absurd. Having a negative opinion about what Rush Limbaugh has to say is tantamount to requesting censorship? So then anyone that ever has a contrary opinion to anything anyone else says is also a request for censorship?

Like it or not, Rush Limbaugh is a very influential person in American politics and people are going to talk about what he has to say, whether they agree with him or not.

So we should mobilize the National Guard in all areas where Limpbag's show is highest rated? To, perhaps, Guard against "dedicated listeners" plotting deadly ricin attcks against their fellow citizens?

    http://news.yahoo.com/georgia-men-charged-plotting-ricin-012138938.html

Gee, I wonder what racial group is predominant in Atlanta? These are the types of mental midgets that listen to Limpbag's show religiously.

    Who are the real terrorists?

And OP seriously asks if Limpbag could possibly be THAT STUPID??

I suspect that you don't know that anti zionism and anti semitism is not the same thing.

education could remedy that, although often ignorance can be extremely resistant to education.

But the Janjaweed are more ethnically Arab, and they are aligned with the powers-that-be in Sudan (you know, the one with the war criminal for a President). It was interesting to see that the Saudis are helping the Janjaweed out by providing water and medicine - it's too bad the blacker Darfur tribes being ethnically cleansed don't rate the same kind of treatment.

I wasn't aware of any such visit but what has it to do with you being stuck in a rut? Yes, water is one of the issues in Darfur but again what has that to do with you being stuck in a rut?
