    By the way…

Does it say something when, absent of any criticism of The Stain’s actions that got him into this in the first place, the only pathetic response you can come up with is to snark at those who do find his punishment fitting…?

This is an insane judgment that doesn't come even remotely close to the 'injury' suffered, because of course the litigant hadn't proved anything.(The old-adage, the absence of evidence isn't the evidence of absence, doesn't apply in a court room). When it came to Dominion/Sandy Hook, there was demonstrative harm and a remedy to an injury.

Like, it should go without saying how lies about the election and lies about a mass serial killing event are worse than this he said/she said spat.
This judgment is so crazy that it's going to probably be challenged, almost instantly and probably reduced on that alone.

The major amount is for punitive damages. The purpose of which is to prevent him from doing it again. That’s the point. How much is enough to make him stop?

If this amount doesn’t do it, you can expect another lawsuit, another award with a higher amount again.

    Until he stops.

That's not how the damage system is supposed to work, it's supposed to equate to the actual conditions(harm) brought by the action. IE: If I slash your tires, the expected damages should be the cost of the tires and interest. This is like times X100 the 'offense' that might've come to Carrol by Trump's mean, nasty words.

NY basically stands alone in the Union with the insanity of this judgment. There's frivolous lawsuits, then there's this...

    That’s compensatory damages.

Punitive damages have a different purpose. To prevent the behaviour from happening again. In general, and for the specific defendant.

It is a fundamental part of the American legal system.

This is what I meant about the 83.3 million verdict while Trump appeals it.

'Trump sets aside money while he appeals E. Jean Carroll's $5 million verdict'

"NEW YORK, June 23 (Reuters) - Donald Trump will deposit $5.55 million with a federal court as security while the former U.S. president appeals a jury verdict that he sexually abused and defamed the writer E. Jean Carroll."

"Courts often require 111% of a judgment to be deposited during appeals."

Even fundamental parts of the legal system can be misconstrued when used wrongly. 83 million dollars. There's nothing honorable or lawful about the decision reached here.(They are secure in that this is a civil, not a criminal trial. Were it criminal, it would immediately trigger the cruel and unusual punishments portion of the constitution)

Because as you said, 'in general', and 83 million isn't general for 99.8% of us.

She argued that Trump would likely not stop unless he was made to part with a large sum of money — and she reportedly emphasized how wealthy Trump said he was.

This isn't a legal argument, and it's not a sound one either. It's a vindictive argument. And it has no place in American jurisprudence. So what damages would I have voted for? Since it was 5 million the first time, a natural accelerator would be 10 million and so on(and even these amounts, again for the offense is absurd but I am keeping in line with what was already decided.)

Trump met the karma of fellow vultures, but it's sad to see vultures in our legal system.

You are completely wrong. The point of punitive damages is to punish. To compel him to stop.

Do you think 83 million is enough?

Trump's political PACS don't have that kind of money so he'll have to put the amount together somehow.
His political money, loans, his money?

This week Trump gets the numbers on his NY fraud case...lol

Trump trashing monetary verdicts without using EJ Carrol's name.

Absolutely ridiculous! I fully disagree with both verdicts, and will be appealing this whole Biden Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party. Our Legal System is out of control, and being used as a Political Weapon. They have taken away all First Amendment Rights. THIS IS NOT AMERICA!

lol, he could have just not been a dumbass through the whole thing. His method is an example how not to behave in a civil trial. They are teaching it in first year law courses now.

This is one more example of legal harassment to get Trump out of the race via the counts instead of the ballot box.

The problem is the Biden administration is so collectively corrupt, incompetent, senile and arrogant that it makes one wonder if the country will survive four more years of him. It’s the situation we faced with the Carter administration in 1980 on steroids.

It almost worked with the Ford woman who made vague allegations in the Cavenah hearings. It's worked in Manhattan because a jury there would put Trump in jail for running for office or walking across the street at a legal, authorized corner with the walk sign in his favor. Ditto for Washington DC.

You're missing a fundamental element: Trump's behavior during the trial.

Because E. Jean Carroll initially asked for far less than she was awarded.

Probably because she and her lawyers knew that Trump's comments during CNN's townhall were worth around $10 million in damages.

Except Trump behaved uncontrollably in the courtroom, even calling the victim a liar and crazy.... in front of the judge and jury.

With each passing day, the amount began to explode.

Because it became clear to the jury that $10 million would not be enough to keep Trump's mouth shut.

And you'll notice that as soon as the verdict was announced, Trump made no further public attacks on Ms Carroll.

Proof that $83 million was the right amount.

It does not matter when it started. It's been your party's strategy to horrass Republicans in court to get them out of public life for at least eight years.

The original complain stemmed for an incident that was supposed to have happened in the 1990s. The woman can't put a date on it, but she says it happened. The criminal statute of limitations would have run out many years ago, but I guess the civil aspects can last forever.

I guess the Republicans need to fight fire with fire and make life hell for Democrats in the court system. Of course by then the country will be ruined because the legal system will be a joke. But then again, that is what the far left globalists want. No national borders, and least in the civilized world. Leaders in the uncivilized world, lead by Putin, Xi and the Billy Goat in Iran will be able to run free.

    LoL

This proves that Ms Carroll's complaint is not political and contradicts your argument.

    There was a trial.

Both sides presented their evidence, and juries were chosen jointly by the defense and the prosecution.

Trump did not even see fit to appear in court to defend himself.

Ms Carroll called two friends to testify, confirming that they had received her confidence at the time that Trump had sexually assaulted her.

Trump denied ever having met her and that she was too ugly for him.

However, he was shown a photo of himself with Ms Carroll and Trump mistook her for his own wife....

The preponderance of evidence went to the prosecution and Ms Carroll won.

    Case closed.

It's not evidence, and it's not even the preponderance of it. In fact, it's wholly laughable that any of it was submitted as evidence. How can a photo of the two of them prove anything? Other than that they met, which while Trump denied is also inconsequential of the question before the court.

Could she actually back up her claims? And evidently, she couldn't except to get others to say they heard her tell the story. It's laughable. But it's an 83 million dollar warning to men: Record everything, and get everything in writing. Because the standards in court just keep getting lower

right, but what I am saying is Trump will probably pay that out of the donations... and if he wins, he will pocket those donations when he gets the money back - if he loses, she pockets them

Ms Carroll presented a witness who was believed by the jury.

There was potentially DNA evidence on a dress, but Trump refused to provide a sample.

And when he changed his mind, on the recommendation of his lawyer, the deadline for filing evidence had passed.

Objectively speaking, it's incredible that Trump's lawyers are so incompetent.

Alina Abba is by his side not because she's good, but because she's beautiful and publicly defends him on every platform.

But in a courtroom, she regularly gets demolished by judges.

And next week, there's the judgment on the case led by Laeticia James.

    It's going to hurt.

I certainly don't want to speak for you, but I think you'll agree that Trump has a bad and immature habit of defaming people. Daily. When he was originally found guilty of defaming Carroll he went out - that very day - and did it again. I see this as a cautionary tale for Trump and others who don't follow the rules their moms should have taught them when they were children. It has become all but impossible for Trump to behave like an adult.
