The Revolutionary War was started by farmers and small militias using personal arms. Without them, there would have been no war.

This fact was so clear, and the British efforts to confiscate personal arms so egregious, the Founding Fathers took it up as the second most important issue when drafting the Bill of Rights.

It was defeated by professional soldiers equipped from state arsenals of the Continental Army and the French Army.

Parkland is a very wealthy community and could have easily provided what ever they wanted. That's doesn't do anything to protect kids in other schools. We can't be myopic and adopt tailor made measures for each and every school. When school starts, no one gets in and no one gets out.
