There's a reason the gals are asking you those rather dumb questions if I say so myself...

You ought to up your game and wear a super-fancy watch or something.

Change cafés too,... I mean, a tattoo may look hot on a 20 y.o. or on a early 30 y.o. but I wonder what the ladies will say when their men turn 45 y.o.

    :bump:

Let's be honest here... it is a certain crowd that wears these tattoos almost exclusively.

There's a realy Hottie bank clerk down to my one bank. She looks like
Angelina Jolie with seductive jet black hair. Her body is fit for
Porn and she has hot lips. But,on the days she has on a short sleeve
blouse or Casual Friday shirt there's all these Tattoo's up and
down her arm. It's disgusting.Makes her look like a snake. That's what
multiple layers of Tattoo look like. The make a human look like a
    River snake.

    1° Congrats to your father.

2° Not really sure what you mean with *rough*. Belgium doesn't have a class society like e.g. the UK does, but I was thaught a certain crowd only had tattoos. The folks that sat in the café from 10 o'clock in the morning until 10 o'clock in the evening, or indeed ,the more "rough" people you don't ought to aspire like e.g. truck drivers (sorry Mikezila, but I hope you understand what I mean), prisoners, gangsters, drug addicts, etc.

Technically no but it goes to Idolatry.Or the Sin of Pride.Taking overt
    pride in one's appearance.Vanity.
I think having a tattoo is something that is entirely learned.
If yer Parents brought you up with definite attitudes about Tattoo's
then you probably won't get one no matter how fashionably acceptable
    Society has made them.
It's like Lay-a-way.If yer parents instructed you to not Buy/Purchase
something until you can afford it,you probably won't go for Lay-a-way.
Tattoo's in my day were seen as a Mark.A Branding.
You are branding yerself with a Tattoo.
I see no merit at all in a Tattoo.
They can't alter yer personality.Make you more funny.More clever.
They may induce an attitude.Like ... Hay .. Look at me.I have all
    these hardcore Tattoo's.I'm Kool.I'm Tough.
It's arguably one of THE Dumbest things a human can contemplate.

Career military. It's a different attitude if you are drafted perhaps...a military career being temporarily foisted on you and neither chosen nor desired.

Anyway, tattoos are allowed in the RAF so long as they are not offensive, obscene, etc and not visible in uniform. My Dad's was neither.

Foolhardy, and Jan, tattoo snobs is it?:-D The person I refer to was better qualified than both of you put together (and more of a man than both of you put together with an army of tatt snobs) :-D

Tatts are historically quite common here because it has always been a major seaport and is a seafaring area. Sailors like tatts. All of my predecessors were seafaring people. It was a heavily industrial area, but the main industry along the Clyde was shipbuilding for hundreds of years (until Thatcher destroyed the industry).

Indeed, *rough people* like sailoirs or seafaring people, truck drivers, etc.

=> people who do hookers and drugs frequently (whatelse past-time is there in the middle of the ocean or on some god-forsaken parking lot?!).

I think it's a cultural issue. Some cultures associate tattoos with negative personality traits. The Japanese assume anyone with a tattoo is a gangster. Most hot spring resorts in Japan ban people with tattoos, claiming they can spread disease, but it's really just a way to keep bad elements out.

For those under forty in the US, generally, speaking, the image of a tattoo has become positive. People from all walks of life have them. I know of teachers, police, firemen, doctors, lawyers, ganagsters, druggies, and criminals who have them. The prinicipal of my school has one.

There's still a lot of resistance to them from many over forty, but they're going to die soon anyway, so who cares?

I don't have any tattoos. I think they look cool, at least for a couple of decades, but in 50 years, I wanna be the only guy in the nursing home with blank skin. Then I'll be unique.

At my job, all tatoo's must be covered. Two of my co-workers have them on their arms so they have to wear those tatoo sleeves. It sucks for them since we live in a hot climate.

I've yet to read a lucid explanation as to why a Tattoo.
Because there cute.? They may one Kool.Tough.Interesting.
If that's the case what is the need for a personality and character.
I hope it doesn't decontruct Society into a stage where without a
    Tattoo,one doesn't garner respect.
That having a Tattoo is like having a college diploma.

I've wanted a tattoo for the past decade or so, but I haven't found something that I want to look at for the next 40 years. That being said, I am tempted to get left and right tattooed on my toes when I'm old so the people at the old folks home can have a laugh when they're dressing me.

Sadly for you ours were good living Catholic, but definitely hard men and they did have to kick ass just to survive. My mother's stepfather (my Grandad was killed in action on a warship in WW2) was of the fighting Irish and street fighting was a weekend pastime and earner to him. He admitted himself when prompted for stories, that he and his brother fought for money and if they could not find anyone to fight, they fought each other.:-D
Sailors and truck drivers are as good as you btw. I imagine tattoos were applied in port when there were plenty of other things to do, not on the high seas. Imagine the same applies to truckers...realistically can't be many truckers who are dangerous roughies or drunks really, can there? You can't drive drunk and truckers are micro managed nowadays. They have tacometers and tracking systems and Police stops and all sorts to deal with to make sure they do not exceed the legal safe driving time limits. In fact the high security truckers can't even exit the cab until they receive a code via GPS and that can take up to 30 minutes.

...unless truckers in Belgium are "different".

I know people who should have that done for practical reasons. You know that "no, your other right" thing...when an adult doesn't know right from left...

Some old timers here have Love tatooed on one hand and Hate tatooed on the other. On their fingers. What does it even mean...

I'm not. They are only brave on the internet. However I have met quite a few hillbillies who regretted their tats. Of course I probably know a lot more of them than you.

There is an issue of expressing ones self through body art. My tastes changed too rapidly for me to ever decide on one... mostly. In the end, I just wasn't that into commitment. Odd, considering my life now. I am glad I never made that decision.

However people who think they are unique and tell everyone so with yet another iteration of an age old theme. My idea was to get Dali's elephants on my back, sans sunrise.

When I realized that there was nothing less original than someone else's work... which led me to the conclusion that the tattoo artists interpretation of whatever it was I wanted would be someone else's work, and unless I could do something original by means of robotics on my back, I would be a shameless tool. While I was intrigued by building a tattoo machine, I never produced something I wanted forever. Dali is a hard act to follow.

Military is different. If I held that honor I would have it embedded.

Tats are mostly stupid. I have several, got them in my early twenties, wish they were gone.

The dumbest are the ones people get pretending they have some deep meaning, like an anniversary or a death marker, they just use these things as an excuse to get a tat. Quite pathetic. At least mine are random crap I thought was cool (at the time) and never pretended they were anything more than that.

Girls with tats look like total trash. Scummy. Tramp stamps mark a whore.

And no matter what any adult tells you, they regret it as they get older. There's going to be a billion dollar business for the person who invents a painless inexpensive method of Tat removal.

In some Tattoo Parlor with a bunch of slimy Tattoo patrons who
kinda find a way to spend their days & nights in or near a Tattoo as
if awaiting Grandmom's fresh baked Apple Pie.

Tattoos are an expression of one's self. To one person someones tatt could be stupid and they could be right. Nevertheless, it has a meaning to that person, stupid or not.

It's like freedom of speech. We don't always like what we hear, right?

I have one tattoo. Got it when I was in my early 40s. A cool pattern around my left bicep, because I liked the look: and symbols representing my kids and wife.

Feel free to consider me uneducated, trash, whatever. Or hip, cool, edgy.

Tattoos are neither good nor bad. Tattoos are like any other personal choice: if it works for the wearer, awesome. Me, I'll never get a full sleeve tattoo. I don't like the look. But I'm considering a leg tattoo when I come up with an image I really want.

They're also like any other personal choice in the sense that some people will make bad decisions regarding them. But a tasteless or stupid tattoo does not make tattoos in general tasteless or stupid, any more than someone wearing a tasteless or stupid t-shirt makes t-shirts in general tasteless or stupid.

Nothing wrong with scars either, unless of course it reminds someone of something tragic. I can't imagine someone putting a tatt on that reminds them of something tragic happening in their life. Usually it's a "In memory of" tatt.

Yes, America is awesome. Wireless technology. Whatcha doing in a parking lot, Mike?

tattoos are a mark of intelligence,

Mike Tyson has one on his face, its origin is from the australian native tribes who painted their faces when they went to war so they can intimidate their enemys.
