No. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russians#Emergence_of_Russian_ethnicity Russians is nation over the nations. I am not sure how to say that. At the beginning there were a lot of Slavic groups with were united and became what we call now Russia. I could say simpler - you could be any race - but if you accept Russian world outlook, if you accept culture - you are Russian. That is why we have in Russia unbelievable amount of strong nations living together.

Shame on me - I never heard Slovianski. I heard Serbian - and it is very similar to Russian. I would say more - Serbian language is language on which all Slavs speak 1000 years ago. It is our archetypal language. As Russian I would say, we always were and would support our brothers by blood and religion. The price for this support was very high: involvement of Russian Empire in WW1, but I'm sure if we would choose again - we would do the same.

Let me know what you think. http://steen.free.fr/interslavic/index.html

They say it is supposed to easily understood by all of slavic background. But I have no idea if it really is because I don't know any slavic other than a bit of spoken Russian from a Pimsleur program. But it has largely gone now because I have nobody physically near by to practice with.

BTW try google, if you are not banned there, to find info that on 2002 in Moscow were 31% of Russians, can't find more recent info, I thought I saw it, but now just can't find. I'll forward to you as soon as I find it. don't be so aggressive, it's not Russian style :)

Cool. I wanted to learn a slavic language a while ago, but then I stumbled onto Slovio and Slovianski. Slovio having more defects from what I heard from other slavic speakers, and slovianski having a more natural "slavic" flavor to it.

I just figured if I was going to learn a slavic language one day, I should pick one that opens the most doors. And thus far, slovianski seems to fit the bill from what others have told me.

Next time try harder. Try finding smth more legit then
Журналисты "Комсомольской правды" озаботились вопросом - остались ли в Москве "коренные москвичи". and random nobody aka Владимир Моряков.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow#Population

According to the results of the 2010 Census, the population of Moscow was 11,503,501; up from 10,382,754 recorded in the 2002 Census.
At the time of the official 2010 Census, the ethnic makeup of the city was:
    Russian: 9,930,410 (91.65%)

    Another fail in your post.
    I suggest you G T F O before you get publically bithch-slapped.

91% of Russians reminds me situation in Silicon Valley. If you take a look here, you would find a lot of Russians, but if you take a look deeper - you find out that 90% of them just Russian speaking Jews, 9% - Moldovans, Ukrainians, Belarusians and etc. Russians here are not more than 1%. Don't you find it funny? When they need to sell themselves to employer with Russian brand – they Russians, but in their facebooks and livejournals they blame Russians and hate them. By the way, KGB agent - I bet you are Jew :)

Initially Russian state was the multi-ethnic country. Archeological excavations in Staraya Ladoga (the first Russian capital since 862 to 865) give both Slavic and Scandinavian finds. The second capital Novgorod since 865 to 882 had three ethnic district Slavic, Scandinavian and Finnish.

Though the origin of term Rus is debatable. There are many theories. The most popular one is Scandinavian or Norman theory. Some historians assume The tribe Rus has come from the territory of former east Prussia - modern Kaliningrad oblast of Russia. So it was the Baltic tribe according to this theory. Some historians such as Trusov, Yamanov, Belyaev and others assume Rurik and Rorik of Dorestad are the same person.

Question: why Russians are so stupid and still tolerate the corrupted criminal gang which still 'governs' Russia? Why Russians believe Kremlin that USA and EU are enemies of Russians? Why Russians believe Putin's lies that NATO seeking a war with Russia?

"by their works they shall be known". This fear is result of observed behavior of NATO. Russian government is the same sort of mafia that we have here in US or in EU. Their problem is that they still not able to deal with corruption on lower social levels. As soon as it would be solved - picture became the same as here.

I was wondering if you could maybe list, for me, 3 things that you really like better in Russia better than in America, and also 3 things that you really like in America better than in Russia...I mean things that can be changed, not like the weather. Thank you.

1.Staro-Slavyansky. The language of Russian Bible. It is still spoken in Orthodox churches all around the world and is understood by lots of slavic people. Basically sll the slavic languages if spoken slowly can be understood by each other. Though it requires experience of understanding and a large vocabulary.

    2. No offense but you asked about average opinion. To say that I have to admit that the propaganda of cold war times is as alive as it is in the USA. I would even say that it is a bit stronger considering the part of americans who don't know of where Russia is located. :) What is even worse is that at the moment all the rumors and gossips about the people are strengthen again because of current problems between politicians.
So the cultivated image is that americans are silly (based on difficulties that a foreigner experiences in another country), money-worshipping (in gold we trust, debt, power of dollar, american business successes etc), liberal-oriented (gay-rights, Comintern-like 'democracy helping' network around the world etc.), cruel (indians, vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan etc), enemies (NATO, missiles in Europe, sayings of american politicians).
I myself regard this image absolutely like an image of vodka, bears, totalitarianism etc which is cultivated about russian people. These images really make the attitude of the press and people themselves. Unfortunately. I participated in the program of cultural exchange and know americans from their side. Not 100% of course, but I bet better than an 'average' opinion.

A usual crappy propaganda with absolutely insane percentage. What ethnic bands are you speaking of? It is an opinion based on bands of New York movie. Yes, nationalities, especially Caucasian nationalities prefer to stay in one group. And these groups exist just because this nation is a... minority. :))) There is absolutely no sense for a majority to hang around in one big group. You have just believed propaganda and try to show it as if it is the truth. Russia has a lot of problems and Moscow as well. But I wish to have just the imaginary problems that you speak of. To kill all the chechens - is the easiest things possible. But it wouldn't correct a single of our real problems.

The people had a choice to tell that they are jews, moldovans and whatsoever. I wonder what can a KGB do to make 96% of a 10 million people lie about their nationality and then to appear openely in facebook etc. :) It's megafail with figures.

    Russia more:
    1. Food. Sorry guys but if we are not talking about restaurants but about meal that is possible to buy in the supermarket than Russia has a better choice of food. It's less artificial. If you eat meat - it is a meat but not sinthetic experiment which looks like meat. If you take vegetables they act as vegetables but not as a picture with the same fibres in orange and tomato. In the US I ate twice as much as I did in Russia and everyone around thought that I am starving in Russia, but in fact I couldn't receive the same use from a certain number of products. But mind that if you estimate the quality of food by restaurants and quick-made food than it is either an equality or even US is better.
    2. Girls. I had an experiment. I was walking streets of Manhattan and streets inside Sadovoye koltso counting girls which are not beautiful but... which I could come to being sober and ask for a phone number hoping to spend at least one night. My counter showed a figure less than 200 girls in a month. And once I was waiting for my train within 3 hours I met the same quantity and i probably missed the same quantity gone uncounted... So, from some viewpoint I understand american gays. Guys in US IMHO are more handsome than the girls.
    3. Opportunities. If you want to make a carrer in any sphere starting from agriculture and finishing with policy Russia offers much better, faster and challenging tasks for young people. In USA you have a well-established and stagnated market of possibilities. Law? Finances? Take after your parents? Yes. But apart of some exeption the rule is not that intriguing. In Russia everything can happen to anyone. It's markets are growing from zero to a world level and collapse into zero. from a world-leading position in a second. So Russia is a very sweet point to make a carreer. My boss has grown from a position of just-graduate "farmer farmer's son" to a director of a big agricultural company which output is about 50% of his whole motherland.

    USA.
    1. Roads. It's not only that Russian roads are poor, but the quality of American roads is really superb. Until you don't see what it is in different countries you won't estimate the treasure that you have in a second from your house.
    2. Cars. Big. Powerful. Cosy. Reliable. American car is 100 million times better than any russian low-cost example. Maybe planes and armor units are equal, but an american car has no serious competitor in Russia.
    3. Movies. Dreamfactory is not only better than russian movies (ok, my dear compatriots, the question was not about soviet times, right?) but also the leader worldover.

    The interesting comment.
Some weeks ago Vladimir Kolokoltsev (the Ministry of Internal Affairs) said the fighting against the criminal ethnic groups is a foreground task.
But there can be no doubt that you (as a manager from agroindustrial company or something) are much more competent person than Russian ministry of Internal Affairs.
