I'm not sure what these atheists were trying to accomplish. If they wanted to generate hatred between Christians and atheists well -- job well done. This comment on the page says it best: Not all atheists are jerks who want to ruin Christmas, but those who are make the rest of you look bad.
Seems odd that they ran a lottery and the most spaces one person could get was 9, and two people both got their full allotment of 9 spaces each, for a total of 18 between them. I guess atheists are very lucky people too?
Or, being that they represent an organized attempt ... they simply had more people apply and then took them. Sometimes getting what you want ... is exactly what you need. http://www.atheists.org/ Even the group that set it up appears to be ashamed of it.
Why wouldn't they? Its Christmas. Why should Christians NOT show their beliefs? Free speech is free speech correct? I am pretty sure that if a Christian group organized to block atheist expression, atheists would scream bloody murder, correct? Which is interesting, because that is exactly what this same group did on the 4th of July when several PRIVATE pilots refused to fly needlessly offensive atheist banners. No matter what, even fundamentally opposite and contradictory approaches, are right when this organization is involved. The real issue? This is one of the largest atheist organizations out there, and all it does it needlessly antagonize people. Is that what atheism is?
Why should atheists have to put up with endless years of antagonistic religionist veneer over the celebration of mammon?
Oh, its almost as if the lottery was rigged. It is actually a vast conspiracy against Christians obviously.
You know, if these atheists where actually smart, they wouldnt be trying so hard making a fuss about Christmas and trying to rename the holiday. To most Americans it already is a secular, not religious holiday. So what purpose do these atheists serve other than trying to annoy Christians?
No one is trying to rename the holiday. There is not a vast conspiracy against the majority of Americans were are Christian.
Maybe because a majority of the voters and taxpayers want them there? Is that a good reason? Because we want to? Because it's fun? Should we get to decide for ourselves? As an atheist, I have no problem at all with Christmas displays. What exactly makes the opinions of anti-christian atheists more important than mine? I never elected them to speak for me. It would really not surprise me at all. In my experience atheists are pushy and obnoxious and most would not have a problem rigging a lottery if it helped them push their propaganda.
It seems a mean-spirited thing to do, especially this time of year. ah well......whadda ya gonna do? they have a right to be there. Still tho, wonder what's up with these folks? Jeesh, maybe they didn't get enough presents last year.
I think it's (*)(*)(*)(*)ed obvious that that pastor is feeling exactly what the Atheists felt he ought to feel. Why shouldn't the Christians know what it feels like to take a back seat and get ignored for a change? Kind of like how those Christians hogging all the display places for 60 years were being rude to everyone else. They made you Christians look like such tools and anti-solstice jerks.
How is that even remotely more rude than hogging those same spots for 60 years and preventing Atheists from putting up displays?
Narrator: He puzzled and puzzed till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. Maybe Christmas, he thought... doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps... means a little bit more!
Why wouldn't these atheists like a chance to present an uncontested message about the solstice, just like the Christians did for 60 years? It's the winter solstice. Why shouldn't we get to place a message? Free speech is free speech, correct? They organized such a block for 60 years! For 60 years, Christians had all the spots, and one year they're cut back to 2, and the Christians cry discrimination? The atheists sat down, shut up, suffered their indignity, and finally beat the Christians by the rules, and now the Christians are whining about it.
Hogging displays...for Christmas..... Christmas displays put up by people celebrating Christmas. Guess I'm not following. I mean, do atheists even celebrate Christmas????
Yeah, there's a lot of holidays around this time, not just Christmas. The Christians hog the displays, preventing anyone else from making a statement. Because you don't seem to recognize that Christmas is not the only holiday at this time of the year.
Oh, I'm aware of that. As a matter of fact, I'm putting up a Kwanzaa tree of my front porch and making sun ornaments to put on my Winter Solstice display in my front yard. That'll look so good next to my blow-up Rudolph and Frosty. PS. Anybody know where I can buy some cheap holiday stuff on sale? this pennypincher doesn't like to pay full price for ANY holiday.
Is that what happens to atheists? Do Christians go out of our way to block your expressions? Organizing and spending money to block the expressions? Agh, yes, when a couple of private pilots refused to fly 4th of July flags that were frankly needlessly offensive, atheists from teh same organization and indeed on this forum taht are saying, "Well good for you boys!" are now screaming victim. Is there some requirement for atheists to view themselves as permenant victims in any and all circumstances?
Just another christian who fails to realize that the christians high-jacked the Winter Solstice Celebration from the Pagans. Well done christians for whining about a holiday that you STOLE from the pagans, when someone has an opinion that differs from you.
No, christians just steal holidays from others, thatÂ’s all. Christians cant stand others to be happy, so they have to force their silly little myths down others throats. Its commanded in their bible to do so.
Its what atheists do. Either you agree with them or they will make you regret it. A) Because it is way out of proportion to the population (you really think 80%+ are atheists?) B) Because their motive is not to celebrate anything but to shut out someone else. They are being (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s. I can say this as an atheist who has spoken with LOTS of other atheists...they are not doing this to "celebrate" anything. They are doing this to prevent Christians from Celebrating. They are not fooling anyone. Why is their free speech more important than mine?
They wanted it more than the Christians did. No rules were violated, that was purely strong organization.
