Re-writing laws which get in your way pretty much defines political corruption.

The law was there for a good reason, and he had it removed because it stood in the way of his personal ambitions. The ONLY person benefitting from this is the "Florida Man", El Caudillo, The Meatball DeSantis. Its a new law made to benefit one person. Corrupt? Hell, yes. This is 3rd world politics.

First of all, Desantis didn't write the law. Secondly, and more importantly, legislative acts are not corrupt. It's part of the Democratic process. Thirdly, I pointed out how the previous law could be interpreted to allow desantis to run for President without a change. The legislature just didn't want to tie it up in the court systems IF Desantis announced.

You haven’t been paying attention? Currently the Florida Legislature is pretty much Desantis’ rubber stamp bitch.

DeSantis is a moderate? For his first two years, yes. He’s sliding more and more to the extreme side every day.

And what was the good reason for the law? Seems fair that he should not need to resign his position until he actually wins the WH, no? Or are you just throwing a little lefty tantrum?

LOL! Only Trumpers are under the illusion that a president actually has the power to achieve all of those things. In fact, they believe that Trump did all that when he was in office. RW propaganda is a strong force.

If that's true, the voters of Florida made it possible. I don't know why some people have a problem with democracy.

No offense but this argument is dumb on so many levels. First, how is it undermining state voters to speak out against a piece of legislation? Remember that corporations have free speech rights. You can thank the conservative justices on the court for that. Second, how exactly have DeSantis’s actions prevented Disney from continuing to speak out? He hasn’t gagged them. He just attempted to hit their pocket books.

Let’s face it. Ron target Disney because he thought it would look good to his base. It has horribly backfired. And now he is exposed as an incompetent blowhard.

I think you only have half the story here. Disney can speak out on any platform they want. And have done so for years. This isn't a free speech issue (As Disney has jumped the tracks trying to make it one because its all they got) This is about Disney threatening legislators to vote the way Disney demands they vote.

    March 8, 2021
The parental rights bill passed the Florida Senate and was signed by DeSantis. Not a single word from Disney.

    March 10, 2021
Disney employees shared their outrage on social media when the company did not denounce the proposed legislation. On Wednesday, at Disney's annual meeting with shareholders, Disney CEO Bob Chapek acknowledged their anger, saying that he knows "many are upset that we didn't speak out against the bill."

Chapek explained that Disney leaders were opposed to the bill "from the outset, but we chose not to take a public position on it because we thought we could be more effective working behind-the-scenes.
    https://www.npr.org/2022/03/08/1085130633/disney-response-florida-bill-dont-say-gay

Chapek announced that Disney has signed the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) statement opposing similar legislative efforts. He also said the company will pledge five million dollars to organizations "working to protect" LGBTQ+ rights, including the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). Which is fine, nobody opposed Disney's right to do this.

But then HRC refuses Disneys money until Disney publicly takes a political stand against Florida legislation.

Then the Orlando Sentinel reported that The Walt Disney Company has donated money to all of the bill's sponsors and cosponsors, with The Verge reporting that the donations have totaled around $200,000.

Now, Magically, Overnight, Chapek becomes a politically outspoken critic of Florida legislators and DeSantis, renames the law the Don't Say Gay law, and threatens if they don't withdraw their new law that Disney will spend whatever it takes to have their law overturned costing Florida voters hundreds of millions to fight Disney.

Since when do California owned theme parks, who are their own government inside the state of Florida, gifted to them by Florida, get the idea that they will tell Florida voters, DeSantis, and Florida legislators what they will and will not pass as laws? And all of this over stopping trans and gay sexuality issues being taught to 5 year olds.

Now, Disney stock holders start dumping Disney stock, to include their new CEO Robert Iger who dumps 90 million of his shares. If you are such a proponent of Disneys stance on the subject why is their own CEO dumping all his stock?

Now that Iger is in and Chapek was fired, magically, he is crying about free speech? Free speech to do what? Threaten Florida legislators?
So he has all the free speech he wants. And sometimes, free speech has a cost.

No he hasn't gagged them but it does seem obvious, to me anyway, that if you are receiving preferential treatment from the government you will lose those benefits if you actively undermine the will of the constituents in the area you have been given the benefits. I mean, its pretty obvious, right?

They learned these tactics from the left. The 2 tier justice system has done wonders for them. I'm very HAPPY to see they are finally starting to play ball. Just remember, the LEFT made this happen

    How ?

For DeSantis to have any chance, he needs to attack Trump.

And that's no small feat, because the MAGA will defend Trump to the death.

As with every other conservative who has ever dared to criticize him, Trump will make DeSantis a Rino, a traitor, he will bury him with insults.

That's what a cult of personality is all about.

    Disciples don't share themselves.

So very true. For that matter, some Republicans didn't think he stood a chance either.
I guess we'll know by mid-May if he decides to run.

Do you have a link? Why do you think the GOP doesn't care that DeSantis has a better shot at beating Biden than Trump? Have they got rocks in their heads?

You could be describing the Democrats who beat Trump in 2020. Their entire strategy was to hurl insults and lie. It worked too.

The illiberal left's LIE is that DeSantis gagged Disney.
Some only want their team members to exercise free speech.

Democracy for me but not for thee.

I think the Biden camp actually fears a Ron DeSantis presidency. He's the guy that could actually dethrone their puppet.

I think you're right. Since Biden "beat" Trump (which I pointed out that Trump actually beat himself) they think they could beat him again. They might be right if Trump doesn't learn to run a more disciplined campaign and stop the aggressive personal attacks. Like here it's the policies that should be attacked, not the messenger.
