We have about 2 weeks of police abuse to catch up on throughout the country now. And I hope we dismantle and rebuild the prosecutor's offices as well.

Is it possible this had nothing to do with race:

I doubt a workplace argument would lead to homicide if something as powerful as racism wasn't involved. On the flip side, that would imply that the proper charge is murder in the 1st degree.

And with a talented lawyer , he's going to get away with this murder, unless the Feds step in and hit him for civil rights violations.

This guy has already recanted his statement. Apparently he confused Floyd with another black employee.

The prosecutor's office? Allow for a pool of independent prosecutors to handle cases involving local police. Add in a review board and public statistics on all cases handled by prosecutors. Annual background checks on finances and banking records.

For the police I think we have to break down the military like reporting structure. Internal reviews are done with a significant civilian oversight. More civilian oversight and regular random review of body and dash cams.

Get this: Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin could receive more than $1 million in pension benefits during his retirement years even if he is convicted of killing George Floyd.

If Derek Chauvin wants respect from the people, He should plead guilty. Chauvin should accept and suffer the consequences for his actions.

I would normally be sure that the union would fight tooth and nail to keep his pension intact, I have seen a union fight for the pension of worse criminal cops. In this case his wife is an immigrant, so I am not so sure.

That's the way it goes. Chauvin is entitled to the pension whether we like or not

    Dear Professors

I am one of your colleagues at the University of California, Berkeley. I have met you both personally but do not know you closely, and am contacting you anonymously, with apologies. I am worried that writing this email publicly might lead to me losing my job, and likely all future jobs in my field.

In your recent departmental emails you mentioned our pledge to diversity, but I am increasingly alarmed by the absence of diversity of opinion on the topic of the recent protests and our community response to them.

Usually if you commit a crime in uniform or "on the clock" you lose your pension.

That's the way the public wrote the rules. The argument is that you abused the power given to you in committing the crime.

Police unions try to argue that the criminal cop became a criminal in that exact instance and was an angel for every minute up to that point.

Nothing bigoted about it. It's simply a fact that nothing has changed much in the culture of the US, who has a massive history where the white community violently oppressed the black population. A person like Donald Trump, if he wasn't such a draft dodger, would have enjoyed a military service in the US army where apartheid was the norm. He is a man of his time and raised up in a country where racism was legally applied by the US government. All kinds of statistics show that black people are still treated harsher by the government. You go contest this, buddy.

Personal attack noted because you're failing to adres the argument.
You a weak poster or what?

Nope. It's a fact. Statistics simply show that the police and the justice system is treating the black population much harsher. And such a thing has it's roots in slaver, and later apartheid. That draft dodging Donald could have enjoyed apartheid rule in the US army himself. He was raised up in that time where apartheid was so normal in the US that it was legal. Culture doesn't change that fast, champ.

Man the Derek Chauvin case is going to be ugly. The story below is an unbelievable read. According to the story, the officers are recorded stating that they thought the Mr Chavin was suffering from Excited Delirium Syndrome. Most of what was seen on the video was proper protocol for that and ExDS is often fatal BY ITSELF. If Chauvin was actively attempting to kill the suspect, why did he follow the accepted protocol for such people?
