I don't mind waiting for an autopsy report and the like, but that looked awful. If that was an approved restraint technique, it should not be anymore. It won't surprise me if there are riots / attacks targeting police over this.

 

I have a black co-worker who had this done to him by a cop.

Luckily his friend with him was an assistant DA.

 

Eh, I was trained to do this very thing like 15 years ago.

Its taught because it's effective, especially when dealing with someone on drugs or much larger than you. Control the head, control the body.

**** happens. Its unfortunate but this case is one in a million. Sucks but I doubt they'll stop teaching a proven restraining technique because one dude died that one day in that one place.

According to the law at the time, yes. I doubt any runaway slaves would be surprised if they were killed after capture.
