Democrat Governor of Arkansas Orval Faubus, a mentor to Democrat President William Jefferson Clinton, was a segregationist racist democrat who defied both the United States Supreme Court and Republican President Dwight David Eisenhower. This created a national news story about the integration of the Little Rock High School.

Faubus' name became internationally known during the Little Rock Crisis of 1957, when he used the National Guard to stop African Americans from attending Little Rock Central High School as part of federally ordered racial desegregation. His strong stand on this issue may seem surprising considering Faubus' 1954 run for governor as a progressive candidate promising to increase spending on schools and roads. During the first few months of his administration, Faubus desegregated state buses and public transportation[citation needed] and began to investigate the possibility of introducing multi-racial schools.[citation needed]

In 1956, Faubus easily blocked a primary election challenge from State Senator James D. Johnson of Conway, the segregationist leader of conservatives. Johnson's wife, Virginia Morris Johnson, made campaign speeches for her husband and later became the first woman (1968 ) to seek the office of Arkansas governor.[6] By the start of 1957, Faubus in his second term had obtained legislative passage of a controversial tax to increase teacher salaries.

Critics have long charged that Faubus' fight in Little Rock against the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that separate schools were inherently unequal, was politically motivated. The ensuing battle helped to shield him from the political fallout from the tax increase, and to diminish Johnson's appeal. Journalist Harry Ashmore (who won a Pulitzer Prize for his columns on the subject) portrayed the fight over Central High as a crisis manufactured by Faubus. Ashmore said that Faubus used the Guard to keep blacks out of Central High School because he was frustrated by the success his political opponents were having in using segregationist rhetoric to arouse white voters.

Faubus' decision led to a showdown with President Dwight D. Eisenhower and former Governor Sid McMath. In October 1957, Eisenhower federalized the Arkansas National Guard and ordered them to return to their armories which effectively removed them from Faubus' control. Eisenhower then sent elements of the 101st Airborne Division to Arkansas to protect the black students and enforce the Federal court order. In retaliation, Faubus shut down Little Rock high schools for the 1958—1959 school years. This is often referred to as "The Lost Year" in Little Rock.[7]

Okay, you win! The Democrats are racist and the Republicans are the "minority lovers". But just to let you know, the Democrats WILL NOT stop supporting laws that help minorities who are in need. And most Democrats WILL vote to keep our black president in office because race is not a factor when deciding WHO is smartest to lead this country. You guys can continue ruining every GOP black candidate. Can you explain what happened to Cain? Or was that simply an unfortunate event?

I'm sure there are a number of 'racists' wearing various labels; but the key to understanding why African Americans, other minorities, working middle class and the poor aren't flocking to the Republican Party, lies in examining the meaning of right-wing rhetoric and the likely effects of policy they promote. (Who will certain laws affect and how?)

Most racists (anti-Black) reside on the Republican side of the fence (for now)... it really doesn't matter (so much) WHERE those racists are, but it matters immensely to the well-being of many Americans that they be "detected" (wherever they are)... and thankfully that isn't perfectly hard to do. Simply note the rhetoric and the POLICIES they promote. It isn't difficult to detect racism, if one zooms-out and observes what lies before them.

Only an observation, but it would appear Patriot news is taking you to school. He has made a fairly decent case, providing links, citations and videos while your posts are repetitive rhetoric with a lot of unsubstantiated allegations.

One has to wonder what kind of witch hunt you're promoting in "detecting" racists and what you want done with them when they're detected.

And while you're hunting racists what about ethnics who openly hate white people simply because they're white?

Rather close minded thinking to suggest its only a one way street.

In 1912, "an unprecedented number"[151] of African Americans left the Republican Party to cast their vote for Democrat Wilson. They were encouraged by his promises of support for their issues.

Wilson did not interfere with the well-established system of Jim Crow and backed the demands of Southern Democrats that their states be left alone to deal with issues of race and black voting without interference from Washington.[152] Wilson brought many white Southerners into his administration, and supported the introduction of segregation into many federal agencies.[151]

While president of Princeton University, Wilson discouraged blacks from even applying for admission, preferring to keep the peace among white students than have black students admitted.[153]

Black leaders who supported Wilson in 1912 were angered when segregationist white Southerners took control of Congress and many executive departments.[154] Wilson ignored complaints that his cabinet officials had established official segregation in most federal government offices, in some departments for the first time since 1863. New facilities were designed to keep the races working there separated. Eric Foner says, "His administration imposed full racial segregation in Washington and hounded from office considerable numbers of black federal employees."[155] Wilson and his cabinet members fired many black Republican office holders in political-appointee positions, but also appointed a few black Democrats to such posts.

W. E. B. Du Bois, a leader of the NAACP, campaigned for Wilson and in 1918 was offered an Army commission in charge of dealing with race relations; DuBois accepted, but he failed his Army physical and did not serve.[156] Wilson drafted hundreds of thousands of blacks into the army, giving them equal pay with whites, but kept them in all-black units with white officers, and kept the great majority out of combat.[157] When a delegation of blacks protested the discriminatory actions, Wilson told them "segregation is not a humiliation but a benefit, and ought to be so regarded by you gentlemen." In 1914, he told The New York Times, "If the colored people made a mistake in voting for me, they ought to correct it."[158]

Wilson was also criticized by such hard-line segregationists as Georgia's Thomas E. Watson, who believed Wilson did not go far enough in restricting black employment in the federal government. The segregation introduced into the federal workplace by the Wilson administration was kept in place by the succeeding presidents and not officially ended until the Truman Administration.[159]

Woodrow Wilson's "History of the American People" explained the Ku Klux Klan of the late 1860s as the natural outgrowth of Reconstruction, a lawless reaction to a lawless period. Wilson noted that the Klan "began to attempt by intimidation what they were not allowed to attempt by the ballot or by any ordered course of public action".[160]

The longest serving member of Congress in history was this democrat racists and member of the KKK, Senator Byrd.

Byrd served as a U.S. Representative from 1953 until 1959 and as a U.S. Senator from 1959 to 2010. He was the longest-serving senator and the longest-serving member in the history of the United States Congress.[3][4][5]

Initially elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1952, Byrd served there for six years before being elected to the Senate in 1958. He rose to become one of the Senate's most powerful members, serving as secretary of the Senate Democratic Caucus from 1967 to 1971 andafter defeating his longtime colleague, Ted Kennedyas Senate Majority Whip from 1971 to 1977. Byrd's seniority and leadership of the Appropriations Committee enabled him to steer a great deal of federal money toward projects in West Virginia.[7] Critics derided his efforts as pork spending[8] to appeal to his own constituents. He filibustered against the 1964 Civil Rights Act and supported the Vietnam War, but later backed civil rights measures and criticized the Iraq War. He was briefly a member of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1940s, but later left the group and denounced racial intolerance.[9]

Byrd was the only senator to vote against both Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Thomas to the United States Supreme Court, the only two African-American nominees. In the former instance, Byrd asked FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover to look into what Byrd believed to be the possibility that Marshall had either connections to communists or had a communist past.[53] In the latter instance, Byrd stated that he was offended by Thomas' use of the phrase "high-tech lynching of uppity blacks" in his defense and that he was "offended by the injection of racism" into the hearing. He called Thomas' comments a "diversionary tactic" and said "I thought we were past that stage." Regarding Anita Hill's sexual harassment charges against Thomas, Byrd supported Hill.[54] Byrd joined 45 other Democrats in voting against confirming Thomas to the Supreme Court.[55]

I consider myself an American. We are all immigrants. What does it matter where we come from? Republicans want a color blind society. Democrats want affirmative action (racial quotas or legal racial discrimination).

Her views drew national attention when she said in an 1897 address that “if it takes lynching to protect women’s dearest possession from drunken, ravening human beasts, then I say lynch a thousand a week.”4

Convict as well Franklin Roosevelt, who incredibly has a reputation as the friend of black Americans. Was he? Not at all. Here is a brief, incomplete list of the offenses of Franklin Roosevelt toward black Americans:

(1) FDR was nominated as Democrat candidate for Vice President at the 1928 at the Democrat Convention in Houston; a city in which a black man had been recently lynched and in which blacks were banned from the Convention floor; (2) FDR won nomination at the 1932 Democrat Convention with the overwhelming support of the racist Democrat parties delegations from the South; (3) He appointed Hugo Black, a former member of the Ku Klux Klan, to the United States Supreme Court; (4) Roosevelt also appointed the racist Tom Clark as Attorney General, which Paul Robeson called "a gratuitous and outrageous insult to my people." (5) FDR also selected as his running mate in 1944 Harry Truman, the only American president who has been a member of the Ku Klux Klan.

History text books, written by liberals and taught by liberals, seldom point out that every Republican presidential candidate - including the four different Republicans who ran against FDR in his four presidential campaigns - won the black vote. The examples of FDRs conduct and Woodrow Wilsons vile bigotry are not exceptional for Democrats, but very typical.
