Explain to me why I should not let this color my experience and form my stereotypes?

I went to the bar last night and there was a black man sitting to my left of about my age and at some point he asked me to buy him a drink and at some point I said why don't you buy me a drink?

So after a little bit of this palavar.... I went ahead and bought the man a drink. And then I went over to the cigarette machine and got my weekly pack of camel non filters...

So I say here man you got to smoke one of these with me...
He takes it from me and then says "give me a light"..

I tell him it's customary to say please and thank you. And then he wants to run his mouth and we almost get in a fight.

That will be the last time I buy a black man a drink that I don't know that asked me at a bar.

Now I realize that that doesn't mean that every black man is the same as this man but he did his best to reinforce my stereotypes.

First of all he asked me for a drink and then he asked me several times after pulling out all this money that he wants to flash.... So why the hell should I buy you a drink? But I am like that I will buy anyone to drink.

After tonight maybe not so quickly

So can any of you explain to me why I should not let this color my stereotypes?

I was nice to him when I didn't have to be and then he was an a****** to me and we almost got in a fight because he doesn't know how to say simply please or thank you.

I threw the book of matches at him and said light at your damn self. Then he's going to try to stick the cigarette back in my pocket and I step back and just let it drop on the damn floor.

So you tell me why I should not let that make me skeptical of my next experience...

Go ahead and tell me why I should not be skeptical.

I do realize that he does not represent the black race in total but I have had so many similar experiences that I do believe that my skepticism is absolutely justified.

I'm like the army, I will give every Man a chance to be all they can be.

Is there something wrong with that philosophy?

First of all we are both grown men with money in our pocket.

I would never in my life ask another grown man to buy me a drink unless he was a friend of mine and I actually needed it.

But he probably feels like he got over on the white guy.

I knew I shouldn't have done that and I bet your ass I'll never do it again.

You're right, it was stupid of me to actually give him the benefit of the doubt.

They feel like I owe them something and they're getting over on the white guy. And this is why they justify and reinforce stereotypes.

I should have known better than to be nice to him. You can bet your ass it won't happen again.

And I did not "obey" a damn thing.... I was stupid enough to extend common courtesy and expect that it might be returned.

Instead of sitting here trying to throw shade on my experience is it possible that you might say the guy was a f****** a******?

Sure, if it actually happened, then he was an ******, but you have already made it into a racial issue because he was black, and you added its because "they feel like I owe them something", so it sounds like the old "black man racist / white man victim" line which you have brought up many times before. Like I said it sounds like a weird story. Did it actually happen?

It is a racial issue whether you choose to see it as such or not. His actions clearly indicate his mindset.

You find it hard to believe that this individual could be so damn arrogant and rude?

So it's easier for you to basically call me a liar than it is to agree that yes certain people can be arrogant rude *******s.

What did I say earlier? I said that if it happened then he was an ******* and you entertained him.

Are you under the impression only black people can be *******s? You made it into a racial issue because he was black. Otherwise it would be just a regular ******* issue. See how it works?

If you need or want someone to explain this to you, then maybe this is just how you've always felt or what you wanna believe.

Entitled they think they are.. Most Negros here are Federal Officers.. and comport themselves well. but occasionally a civilian will wash up here. The first guy just followed no social norms.. for instance4, he wanted to barge in and lead the women's Bible study.. AND he was always asking for money and favors, If I saw him, I'd just go the other way.

The other guy, a fairly close acquaintance of mine and a biker brother was pretty good for along time.. comported himself well with me, and besides bikes, we had some affinity as English first speakers.. but in time he managed to make himself unpopular with his entitled behavior and ignoring local social norms, even when I took him aside and explained them (when in Rome.... )
so don't act like the black culture has nothing to do with Fattie's acquaintance.. it is a prevailing attitude among many blacks to the point of being an accurate stereotype.

I'm sorry to say that I have to agree with you. We have no choice but to be sceptical of middle-aged American men who drink in bars.

Ummm, how old are you, if I may ask? Because no one in 2023 uses the word "Negro" anymore. More importantly, the rest of that seems like your own personal problems.

When I was a young boy growing up in my family home, there was a light switch with a bare metal cover by the stairs to the basement. Almost every time I touched that switch, I got zapped with a charge of static electricity. To this very day, a half-century later, any time I encounter a switch with a metal cover, I am initially afraid to touch it. I have pre-judged all metal light switches as causing a static shock, when, not all of them would actually shock me. This is due to my past experiences with metal light switches.

If every time you encountered a pit bull, it attacked you, before long you will find yourself avoiding pit bulls. That is prejudice. Not every pit bull will attack you, but in your experience, they all have in the past. It would not be in your best interest to ignore your instinct to avoid them, in that case.

It is not any more unreasonable to consider people dressed like gang members to be dangerous than to consider people dressed like firemen as being virtuous. But that too is prejudice.

Prejudice is a self-defense mechanism that is built in to everyone. It is normal, and it requires self discipline to overcome, when overcoming it is the right thing to do. Your army analogy is right on. I consider every person I encounter my equal, until THEY indicate otherwise. But, even so, one cannot ignore their 'spidey-sense'.

you're damn right they are and it's because of similar experiences in the past.

I know some decent black man that I wouldn't trade you a damn platoon of white trash for one individual. But the fact of the matter is stereotypes are based in reality.

It's easier for the liberals here to call me a liar and pretend that this situation didn't happen then to address exactly what you said in the last part of your post.

I absolutely know that there are but I also know that if I have to go through 85 men to find 15 of them that are decent that I'm going to tend to be naturally more skeptical of all of them.

The reality is there tend to be more a** holes in that race.

You know that's a good point.... I had just recently taken to visiting this place one night of the week on my weekend off after having not patronized such places for years. I think I'm going to stop going for a good long while anyways.

Based on your personal experiences it seems like you already made your mind up on what you think.

I mean just by reading your OP it seems pretty suspect that someone randomly at a bar just asks you to buy them a drink, and then you do it. And then at the same time you openly say twice you know this doesn't represent all black people yet here you are making dumbass, very questionable posts like these. And even worse, according to the poster who commented right after your OP you have a history of this.

So forgive me if I'm very skeptical of every single thing you've said.

So you think melanin is the Reason for that person's behavior.
No person with less melanin would act like that.

    Ok. Believe what you want.

Your tone in your thread already points to your stereotype already.

They feel? They get something over a white guy.
    Nuff said.

I wish you could have had the exact same experience so we could see how you can make excuses for the guys behavior.
