Sad to see the same pathetic arguments being used in light of the OP.

    Oh well.

Why then, is the government so interested in people marrying when they have no intention of having kids?

Marriage has nothing to do with procreation. Never has, never will.

So you would prefer someone be utterly miserable for the rest of their lives, shacked up with someone they don't love, rather than see that person with someone of the sex, blissfully in love?

    That makes perfect sense.........................................not.

They can find someone willing to sell her baby to them, but she won't be a surrogate mother. The child won't have a mother. That is no way to raise a child, without a mother.

Homophobia is a mental illness? Ha! Just how many have been diagnosed with this affliction? Has anyone ever been treated or cured from this terrible condition? Homophobia is just a put down created for the purpose of advancing the idea that homosexual behavior is normal and advancing the homosexual agenda by insulting normal people who know that sexually deviant behavior is still a mental condition.

Define 'sexually deviant behavior'. Do you include oral sex and masturbation as sexually deviant behavior? How about looking at porn?

New "conservative" english dictionary ? ROFL .. LOL

One mans deviance is another mans normal.

Thank goodness we live in a country that respects individual freedom so that prudes can be restrained from forcing their beliefs on the masses.

These puritan folks wishing to force their religious values on others is no different than Sharia Law.

I don't know why people use the, "They can't be married because they can't procreate!" argument anymore. Yes, they CAN procreate and often do, they simply need to use alternative methods in order to do so. MILLIONS of children are being raised by gay and lesbian parents in this country, so why the government doesn't endorse them at this point, if it's all based on procreation and the "family unit" as so many here claim is beyond me.

Yes. It would be. Government has no interest in redundantly checking on whether a relationship is fertile or not when by nature, most are--eventually.

That's not the basis for what I'm saying. I'm saying there is no interest in making stuff up--only endorsing what is obvious.

Who is stopping them from living together? No one.

That's not the case here in the US--people are free to be gay--but they don't get special privileges for it.

The government does not and should not care about matters of the heart. It has no interest in your "love-life."

I wasn't talking about homosexuality--I was talking about YOUR view of love as demonstrated by your posts.

Your mother cannot claim her "daughter at heart" or "son at heart" on her taxes, nor can she make legal/financial decisions for them if they were incapacitated. The government doesn't care about your FEELINGS.

You can call whatever you want a "family." That still doesn't make the government responsible to endorse it as such just because you want it to.

Do you really want to go into the statistics on the stability of gay relationships? Really? I don't think that will help your position.

It NEVER occurs in same sex unions unless a third party of the opposite sex enters into the mix--and then, only one of the two gay partners is part of the procreation.

No. Rather your logic fails because race and homosexuality are not related nor comparable in the least.

No--you just gave reasons why one might want marriage--the privileges given by governance to support the institution. You haven't said what gay marriage gives back to society as a whole.

Your OP was silly and left out the reason why the government bothers to endorse marriage at all.

I am not the government. But...by all means--be free to "shack-up" with the one you love. Just don't expect the taxpayer money to support your personal preferences. There is no societal BENEFIT--the government has no INTEREST.

Should same sex couples be required to obtain babies, and be prepared to give money to support gay couples in accessing these "alternative methods" ?

It doesn't do it for heterosexual couples--why should gays get special privilege?

Should opposite sex couples be required to obtain babies and be prepared to give money to support opposite sex couples in accessing these "alternative methods"? (Because they sure as hell already do go and access these alternative methods when they discover they are infertile and they can STILL be married.)

No. The government doesn't give money out to heterosexual couples who are infertile and need to use alternative methods to obtain children. However they can still be married regardless of this and whether or not they actually choose to produce children using alternative methods (i.e. IVF/adoption). Homosexual couples aren't getting married at all and are still producing children regardless. Why shouldn't their family receive the same 1400 benefits other married couples and their families receive?

It's not just in the thousands at this point, but literally MILLIONS of children being raised by same-sex parents. Do these children and their families not deserve the same "special privileges" that heterosexual parents receive through marriage?

Look, you argued that procreation is the main reason for marriage. Well gays and lesbians procreate often. They, just like infertile couples, need to use alternative methods to do so. I am not saying the government should have to pay them to do it, but I do think they deserve the same privileged rights a heterosexual couple gets via marriage. There is no reason to deny them this since they will in fact most likely create a family unit of their own as they are already doing. And if we allow more gay people to adopt this will be even MORE likely. But as it stands there are many obstacles put in place to make this difficult for them because people seem to have it in their heads that two adults of the same gender cannot raise healthy children together.

My step-sister wants to marry her girlfriend soon and have a baby with her. Yes, have a baby with HER. They will most likely obtain semen from a sperm bank and do what they have to do to have a baby. But just because she is not going to marry a man doesn't mean her and her girlfriend aren't a family.
