Then shouldn't we allow it until the kid is capable of supporting themselves? I mean, if your nineteen year old kid can't graduate high school maybe it is his time to go. Why not? It's not murder, it's abortion. Perfectly legal.

If the 19 yr old is still inhabiting the woman's womb then go for it.

No, they don't. Most sex ed teachers (in particular) would never be so dismissive of some students' views. You have a totally wrong idea of what goes on in schools. Does some teacher, somewhere, make comments they shouldn't? You can bet on it. There four million school teachers.

We have state legislatures and governors making bad judgment a criminal offense. Teachers don't know what is and isn't permitted.

    Read the Florida law carefully.

    https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2022/1557/BillText/er/PDF

Imagine if leftist ideologues were in control of the Florida Department of Education, they could easily ride roughshod over your rights by who they appoint as special magistrates. You can appeal any school district decision to the Department of Education.

If you don't like the DoE decision, you can take them to court. You don't get a state trained teacher acting as a professional, you have an employee who has no professional standard other than the one set by government. Good teachers will leave Florida--they're in demand everywhere--and will go to where their judgment is respected. You know what you'll have left.

"By June 30, 2023, the Department of Education shall review and update, as necessary, school counseling frameworks and standards; educator practices and professional conduct principles; and any other student services personnel guidelines, standards, or frameworks in accordance with the requirements of this act."

Florida teacher pay is 49th of 50 states. Home prices went up about 40% in two years during the pandemic. No wonder Florida has a teacher shortage. Maybe you live in The Villages and don't care.

They don't any longer because SCOTUS says they don't.
Some woman might be overlooked, but as time goes on virtually every woman will know where she can get an abortion.
I doubt women will ever go along with government telling them they must stay pregnant and give birth.

Pregnancies are sometimes the result of failed contraception.

Yet you expect the government will officially condone murder of the unborn? Really?

OK let’s look at some real life situations and you can give me a yes/no on them.

    1. 18 weeks pregnant already showing signs of HELLP syndrome
    2. “Ectopic” pregnancy
    3. Placenta growing over the cervical opening (will cause peripartum haemorrhage when labour starts
    4. Foetal abnormality incompatible with life
    5. Foetal abnormality that will cause untold suffering I.e. “cotton wool baby”/osteogenesis imperfecta
    6. Woman in highly abusive relationship
    7. Woman living “on the street”
    8. Women with severe addiction

    That is YOUR OPINION.

    MILLIONS DISAGREE WITH YOU.

The voters will settle it in each state.

what REALLY pings me off about the so called “pro-lifers” is that they are NOT in favour of those things proven to prevent unwanted pregnancy and ergo abortion

I used to draw the line at the point the heart started, but then I learned that the very initial detectable heartbeat in fetuses was just a few cells that would become the heart giving off identical electrical impulses. Based on that information, I changed my mind to the point at which brainwaves are present and detectable, which I understand, but could be wrong about, is approximately 22 weeks. My thinking is, subtract a few weeks to accommodate early developers and measurement error, call it 20 weeks for a deadline, and let's leave it be.

The problem is most real opinionated persons on the topic are extremists one way or the other. On the one hand, I once had someone tell me that disposing of unused fertilized eggs after a successful IVF procedure should subject the disposer to murder charges, on the other, many (most?) virulent pro-choice persons are ready to allow it right up to a few minutes before a natural birth.

I can't abide with either of those extremes, but neither side is willing to look at a compromise like I just outlined.

For what it's worth, despite being pro-choice (with that restriction), I think Dobbs itself was, from a purely legalistic/Constitutional perspective, properly found. Roe was bad legal precedent for many reasons, not the least of which is that the Court 'Decision' read more like actual legislation than a legal decision.

Interesting perspective. When the voters in each state make their decisions, it will be interesting to see how many agree with you.

You're talking about the government telling women they have to remain pregnant and give birth. Your 20-week compromise would make women second class citizens.

Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided because it didn't recognize a woman's right to control her body. There should be no law banning abortion. Dobbs vs. Jackson Women's Health Organization was wrongly decided because it also didn't recognize women's rights.

Again, this from Dobbs v. Jackson Woman's Health Organization:

"After today's decision, the nine Members of this Court will no longer decide the basic legality of pre-viability abortion for all 330 million Americans. That issue will be resolved by the people and their representatives in the democratic process in the States or Congress. But the parties' arguments have raised other related questions, and I address some of them here."

    https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/21pdf/19-1392_6j37.pdf

As I said, there is the possibility Congress could outlaw abortion. It could also legalize it, too.

Why do you continue promoting the nonsense that Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Center turns abortion over to the states when it expressly included Congress?

"After today's decision, the nine Members of this Court will no longer decide the basic legality of pre-viability abortion for all 330 million Americans. That issue will be resolved by the people and their representatives in the democratic process in the States or Congress. You fail to recognize the rights of the unborn.
